IS THIS WHERE KURT BUSIEK GOT THE IDEA FOR SECRET IDENTITY?

In Connie Fletcher's book PURE COP; she interviews street
veterans of police departments across the country, coming up with
some interesting stories.  In one chapter called THE STREET, one
officer tells her about a setup they used to catch a subway
mugger.  An officer rented a Superman costume and secreted
himself behind a steel door in the subway (with the frame
loosened.)  Another officer was dressed as a street person and
was the decoy.  He lay down on the pavement and eventually
someone came up and began to pick his pocket.  Suddenly
"Superman" burst through the door and made the collar.  When the
case came to trial, the arresting officer identified himself to
the judge as such.  Then the suspect said "That's ain't the
arresting officer.  It was Superman that arrested me!"

                                               ComicBkNet@aol.com

A woman on Jeopardy tonight said in her interview she was into
Greek and Roman Myths and Comic Books. She named her daughter
Diana, after the goddess and Wonder Woman's alter ego. Cool.

Yesterday was one of those days you just know you are being
tested.I had been traveling around New England and New York with
my boss, put on 1000 miles in 4 days. We get to JFK Airport on
Thursday at about 4:00 where he will be staying to catch an early
morning flight. Two blocks from the hotel the right rear tire
goes flat. We limp to the Hotel parking lot and call AAA -
because that's what you do! An hour later, no AAA guy. another 15
minutes I call to be put on hold for ten minutes. When they
finally pick up I explain the situation and the conference in
the local garage that is supposed to respond (they promise help
within the hour as a policy) and they say no one was coming bu
they would send them out and it would be twenty minutes more. I
wait and at 6:00 the guy shows up in a flat bed tow truck. I tell
him all I need is a tire change and he explains he was told to
take me to the tire repair store. Figuring fixing the tire is
better than running on the funky spare I agree and we fight
traffic to get to the 24-hour tire repair place - about the size
of a 7-11 and no garage. I am now third in line to get service.
When they get to it they discover the hole is really a slit that
can't be repaired. SO . . .  I tell them to put on the spare. Now
it is 6:45 and my cell phone rings. It is Debby at AAA asking if
my service has been done satisfactorily. I kindly inform her that
two and a half hours after I called my spare is being put on,
which is something I could have done in about a half hour by
myself so, no, I am not satisfied. But now I have to pay this
guy, who is not connected to AAA for something AAA does for free.
Then I have to drive about an hour to my hotel to be near where I
have to be in the morning.

I wish i had some comics to read while waiting. Like these new
ones:

You ever have one of them days boys?
You ever have one of them days?
When nothing is right, from morning 'til night.
You ever have one of them days?

You jump into the shower and turn the water on.
Your teeth begin to chatter, the hot hot water is gone.
Freezin', sneezin' you wanna dry your back
You ever have one of them days when there's no towel on the rack.

You're at a Sunday picnic and it starts to pour,
You fall in poison ivy, scratchin' 'til you are sore.
Ants come marching carry off the bread.
You ever have one of them days when you should have stayed in
bed?

That's part of an Elvis Presley tune. I think it was from G.I.
Blues. Events made me think of it. It's amazing what the mind
will remember.

I'M THAT OTHER MASKED MAN

Cowboy star Bob Livingston was picked to play the title role in
THE LONE RANGER RIDES AGAIN when the serial star of THE LONE
RANGER Lee Powell wanted a larger paycheck.  Later on when he
became a member of the THREE MESQUITEERS movie series he wore a
similar mask in those films as well as a LONE RIDER film series.

Hello David, the e-mag's a wonderful read as always. Mike Curtis,
man, your Obscura is really a wonderful addition. As a cop
(albeit a desk-bound one), and a Superman fan, I particularly
loved the one with the Superman disguised cop from last issue.

One other thing, would you mind me collecting some of your
Obscurae and using them for a piece on my radio show? Due credit
will be given, of course.

Keep up the good work!

THE FANTASTIC CAME EASY TO HIM

After 6 years of working with a talking horse on MISTER ED, star
Alan Young's next role was a pilot film about a superhero that
took a pill and could fly called MR. TERRIFIC.  When the series
was picked up, he was replaced in the role by Stanley Strimpell
(who?)  MR. TERRIFIC did not last long as a midseason
replacement, as did its companion show the same night, William
(ST. ELSEWHERE) Daniel's CAPTAIN NICE.

BLUE WATER HEROES EMBARK UPON AN ODYSSEY

Heroes unite once again to form The Odyssey for "God War."

October 25, 2005 (San Diego, CA) - Exciting things are happening
in the world of the Blue Water Productions/Alias Enterprises
series, THE 10th MUSE, as she kicks off an all new Blue Water
crossover event, titled "GOD WAR" in January 2006!

The fun begins with January's release of THE 10th MUSE #10, in
the first installment of a crossover storyline featuring Isis,
Orion, and the rest of the Blue Water heroes.

War has been declared.   The Olympians are choosing sides and the
pantheon is torn apart.  In a bold move the 10th Muse makes a
play for the ultimate prize: Zeus's throne!  But not if Zeus has
anything to say about it!   The gods will test the limits of
their immortally and the war for Olympus has begun. The winner
will control the fate of mankind.   THE 10th MUSE #10 is written
by Darren G. Davis, with cover artwork by Billy Dallas Patton,
and Double Page Cindy Margolis cover by Lee Kohse.

Following 10th MUSE #10, GOD WAR breaks out across all of Blue
Water's titles before the February release of its penultimate
chapter, THE ODYSSEY: a massive 48-page one-shot, written by Chad
Rebmann, with artwork by Vicente Cifuentes Martinez!

THE ODYSSEY focuses around an iconic group of godly superheroes
calling themselves the Odyssey, as they fight the Titans in a war
for the future of our earth. New heroes will be born, and others
will never be the same.

Among those new heroes born, we'll find such new series as ORION
THE HUNTER, THE MUSE (a spin-off of 10th MUSE, starring Morgan
Wulf), and the return of JUDO GIRL - all available from Alias
early next year!

GOD WAR eventually wraps up in February's THE 10th MUSE #11.

"It's unfortunate that some people haven't been happy at Alias,"
said Blue Water's managing editor, Darren G. Davis.  "I don't
know the specifics of their deals, but I know that on our end we
have been very happy with the treatment that Alias has given us.
They've allowed us great freedoms to take chances on pursuing
books such as THE ODYSSEY, and they've always had faith in us as
creators."

Also shipping in January is THE 10th MUSE: MANGA EDITION,
featuring the original issues #5-12 of the original Image Comics
series that eventually made the jump to Alias - with artwork by
Roger Cruz and story by Marv Wolfman.

And coming in 2006, Blue Water begins a series of crossover
events - the first with creator Billy Tucci's SHI, and also with
Arcana Press' EZRA.  And be here to witness Alias Comics' very
first inter-studio crossover, as Blue Water and Lynx Studios meet
for the special 10th MUSE/LEATHAL INSTINCT crossover story!

Exciting things are happening every day for Blue Water
Productions and THE 10th MUSE.  Visit their website at
http://www.bluewaterprod.com, or visit Alias online at
http://www.aliasenterprises.com for more information on this
and other upcoming projects!

Cry Wolf Graphic Novel Will Teach University Students

Tiverton, Ontario, Canada & Bayville, New Jersey, Oct., 26th, 2005
- Doug Crill & Daniel J. Frey, the author and illustrator of the
graphic novel Cry Wolf, as well as their publisher Open Book
Press are proud to announce that the academic quality of the Cry
Wolf graphic novel has been recognized in a big way.

This 70 page cult hit graphic novel revolves around a young
private investigator who must leave his new bride and risk his
life to find an old friend in the jungles of Borneo. In the
process the private eye is confronted with the legend of the
werewolf, and returns home with more than when he left. The story
is set in Chicago in the 1920's in the midst of the prohibition
and gangster era.

The story has now been approved as a teaching text by the
University of New Mexico, to be used in their English 220 class.
The class will revolve around the role of the werewolf in
historical and modern literature, the symbolism associated with
the werewolf form different times and cultures. The symbolism of
different types of werewolves and their roles will also be
examined.

Other popular works of werewolf horror fiction will be
examined as well. These will include books such as Guy Endore's
"The Werewolf of Paris", Robert Louis Stevenson's "Dr. Jekyll &
Mister Hyde', as well as popular modern and historical films.
Biblical stories and ancient mythology involving the werewolf
will also be studied.

The focus of the course is to examine Lycanthropy as a
device in literature and teach the proper use of it in writing
and how the symbolisms of the wolf trigger responses in the
conscious and subconscious mind.

More details can be found at: www.openbookpress.com, course
info will be posted at http://www.unm.edu
