TRUE BELIEVER ALERT 11-8-2005
Giant-Size Invaders #2, Captain Universe/Silver Surfer, and
Incredible Hulk #89

The Band is Back Together in Giant-Size Invaders #2

The team that turned the tide back in World War II
are back again in an all-new 16 page tale by legendary writer Roy
Thomas in Giant-Size Invaders #2.  In an untold tale set during
the forties Captain America, the Sub-Mariner, and the Human Torch
are the Invaders once again in this special tale.

This Giant-Sized issue not only features a new story
by the Thomas, but a slew of classic Invader stories.  Giant-Size
Invaders #2 collects Invaders #1-2 from 1975 where the greatest
heroes in the world, the Invaders, came together to battle the
Axis powers with the fate of the entire world on the line.  For
completists, these two issues were originally meant to share the
pages of Giant Size Invaders #2 back in 1975, but a last minute
Marvel change, turned them into the single sized issues.

And there is still more in this jam-packed issue as
the three staples of the Invaders get their own stand-alone
stories herein.  Witness the Sub-Mariner tussle with the Torpedo
Boat Terror from All-Winners Comics #1.  Catch the Human Torch as
he gets caught in the Carnival of Death from All-Winners Comics
#2 and see Captain America crack the case of the Malay Idol from
that same issue.

The Silver Surfer must attempt to fend off a crazed
alien warlord from destroying a peaceful alien civilization and
when the warlord becomes bonded with the Uni-Power, the Surfer's
job becomes just that much harder.

The fantastic ending of this Uni-Power epic in
Captain Universe/Silver Surfer leads directly into the March 2006

Hulk Tries to Find Peace and Fails in Incredible Hulk #89

After the events of House of M, Bruce Banner is more dejected
than ever about being able to quell the beast that resides inside
him.  So Banner puts himself and the Hulk into self-imposed exile
in Incredible Hulk #89.

But you know that the "puny" humans will never leave
the Hulk alone.

Banner figures he has a fool-proof plan since no one
would actually come looking for the Hulk.  By moving to an
isolated interior of Alaska, Banner can spare the world from the
never-ending rampage of the Hulk.

So who comes calling to visit the Hulk but Nick Fury
and that can only mean a world of trouble.  This meeting sets off
a chain of reactions with dire consequences for all of humanity,

Marvel's Two Instant Sell Outs

In less than a day, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
#2 and both the regular and variant version of New X-Men #20 have
sold out at Diamond.  As a result of how quickly these issues
disappeared from Diamond, Marvel has announced they are going
back to press immediately on both with second printing variant
covers.

The Other continues to be a huge hit with retailers
and fans as Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #2, part 4 of the
Spider-Man event, is also the fourth consecutive sellout.

The second printing variant cover of Friendly Neighborhood
Spider-Man #2 will follow the same theme as the three that
preceded it, featuring a Mike Wieringo Spider-Man in one of his
different costumes through the years.  This time up it's the
"Bag-Headed Fantastic Four" Spider-Man costume, seen in the
sketch provided by Wieringo.

Peter David wrote the first three issues of the Spider-Man: The
Other event, which were all quick sellouts, and now Reginald
Hudlin is continuing that success as he begins Act Two with an
nearly instantaneous sellout.

The other sellout, New X-Men #20, marks a new era for
the students of the Xavier Institute, which kicked off in grand
style with both the regular and variant cover selling out at
Diamond.

            "New X-Men #20 redefines the "All-New, All-Different"
concept in ways most readers won't expect," says editor Mike
Marts. "This isn't a book about learning how to control your
mutant powers anymore, it's a book about learning how to
survive."

Be sure to be on the lookout next week when the second
printing variant cover for New X-Men #20 is revealed and be sure
to pick up these smoking hot second printing variants when they
are released before they're gone as quickly as they came.

Smith and Dodson Are Back With Spider-Man/Black Cat: Evil That
Men Do #4

Kevin Smith and Terry Dodson's next chapter of
Spider-Man/Black Cat: Evil That Men Do takes a surprising turn as
the anti-hero Black Cat ends up behind bars.

In Spider-Man/Black Cat: Evil That Men Do #4, the
Black Cat is accused of the murder of a mutant menace known as
Klum and Felicia has only two friends she can turn to: Peter
Parker and Matt Murdock.  But not even the combined forces of
Daredevil and Spider-Man may be enough to spring her.

Fortunately, an unexpected X-Man comes to Felicia's
aid.  Here's a small clue as to his identity: BAMF!

Editor Axel Alonso has seen the ending of the series
and even he cannot wait until everyone sees how this series
concludes.

"It's finally done," says Alonso.  "For real.  After three
years Spider-Man/Black Cat: Evil That Men Do is ready for your
reading pleasure.  And the story is all the better for it.  Issue
#6 is bound to be the buzz of the internet in months to come."

Be sure to pick up Spider-Man/Black Cat: Evil That
Men Do #4 as this series has only just begun to shock and amaze
fans of Spider-Man and the Black Cat.

The Self Publisher's Association Releases 2006 Pinup Calendar.

Undeterred by rumors of its own demise, The former "Small Press
Association" is offering a pinup calendar for 2006, highlighting
not only impressive art from its members but also a comprehensive
schedule of all next year's comic book events and world holidays.
The package promises to be a great idea for the coming gift
giving season.

The calendar shows a bright sampling from its membership,
colorfully collecting humor, science fiction, super heroism,
cartooning and design. This independent production shows
surprisingly professional work. Even without the added bonus of
its convention schedule, the 2006 SPA calendar is a remarkable
piece of art and is sure to please both comic book pro and novice
alike. Fully colored and standard sized, the wall calendar makes
for worthwhile eye candy, able to tastefully decorate both a room
or an office.

The Self Publisher's Association, led by Ian Shires, strives to
demonstrate that the craft of self publishing is still alive and
well. Shires hopes the calendar, the product of its unified
members, will put to rest any recent rumors raised disputing the
SPA's credibility or its sheer love for making comic books.

Founded by Shires in 2000, the recently renamed Self Publisher's
Association is a loosely-knit group of writers, artists,
publishers and their fans from around the world. Featured studios
in the calendar include Crazee Comics, Dimestore Productions,
Squid Works Comics, King Tractor Press, Another Dream Studios,
Dreamchilde Press, Angry Dog Press, Artjones Studios, Altered
Fates Entertainment, Turbo Comics, and Young Leonardos.

Former Marvel Entertainment Brand Manager John Taddeo to
Appear Monday on The Screening Room with Producer Jonathan
Crane

November 11, 2005, Palm Beach, FL - Writer, director and
former Marvel Entertainment Brand Manager, John Taddeo, and
his animated film Zoom Suit, will be featured on the
television show The Screening Room.  The show was taped
Thursday at DW studios in Palm Beach, Florida and will air
on Monday, November 14 at 8:00 pm ET on WHDT. Zoom Suit
will be the first of five short films screened that

"Being chosen to appear on The Screening Room and sit with
Jonathan Crane is an amazing honor for me and Zoom Suit,"
said Taddeo. "I guess we must have done something right
since the film keeps winning awards and garnering this type
of recognition. I'm hoping that all this fanfare will
translate into foot traffic at local comic stores when the
comic mini-series is released next year."

The two-hour show is hosted by renowned producer Jonathan
Crane. Crane, a Hollywood luminary, has produced some of
the largest money earning films in the last decade,
including Basic, Swordfish, Face/Off, Phenomenon, The

feature a viewing of Zoom Suit followed by an interview
with Taddeo and an in-depth commentary on the film and
director by Crane.

"I loved it," proclaimed Crane on the set of The Screening
Room after viewing Zoom Suit for the first time. "I am
bowled over. I'm stunned. John Taddeo is a budding
visionary writer, director and producer."

FERRY & HITCH EXCLUSIVE TO MARVEL

At the Mondo Marvel panel it was announced that Pasqual Ferry is
now exclusive to Marvel Comics and working on the second Orson
Scott Card Ultimate Iron Man story. Bryan Hitch was also
announced as having renewed his exclusive until the year 2009.

Other random notes included teasers about Frank Cho working on
another Marvel series after New Avengers, but the creators
wouldn't say which project he was working on. Lost's Damon
Lindelof is working on something after the Ultimate Wolverine vs.
Ultimate Hulk, but, again, no details yet.

MARVEL MONDO: Decimation & Other News 11/05

Associate Marvel Editor Nick Lowe hosted a panel today at Wizard
World Texas to discuss upcoming plans for the House of Ideas. See
what's on Marvel's slate for the coming months.

These are just random notes from the panel. This reporter tried
to get things word for word, but that rascally Marvel editor
talked really fast and it was tough to get some things exactly as
they were said.

Lowe started the panel with some information on Lost's Damon
Lindelof's upcoming Ultimate miniseries, Ultimate Wolverine vs.
Ultimate Hulk. He said the series starts after Nick Fury
discovers that the Hulk is alive and wants the problem taken care
of. He send the ultimate tracker, Wolverine, after him. There was
a really cool image that flashed on the screen of the Hulk
apparently ripping Wolverine in half.

Lowe mentioned that in Ultimate Extinction by Warren Ellis and
Brandon Peterson that the Ultimate Silver Surfer would be making
an appearance.

Lowe said if people want to read the Ultimate Vision story by
Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr, that ties into Ultimate
Extinction, you have to read the individual parts in the
individual Ultimate titles. This story will not be collected.

Lowe teased a little about the David Hine and Jim Muniz
Decimation tie-in comic, 198. Lowe wouldn't say much about the
story but that it will focus on the mutants that still have their
powers in the Marvel Universe.

The House of M: Day After one-shot will wrap up everything that
happened with the House of M. It comes out this week and is from
Chris Claremont, Randy Green, and Rob Hunter.

Lowe mentioned briefly the Sentinel Squad and said these
Sentinels are back in a way Marvel readers have never seen them
before.

He described the Paul Jenkins penned Generation M, which deals
with the mutants who lost their powers in the wake of House of M,
as "some of the best I've ever seen Jenkins write." Ramon Bachs
is drawing the series.

In X-Men Deadly Genesis, Lowe said a major character dies, but he
wouldn't say who. He also said the secret history of the X-Men is
revealed in these pages.

X-Factor is going to feature the group working as detectives
uncovering mysteries. One of the biggest that Madrox, Wolfsbane,
Strong Guy, Rictor, M, and Syrin deal with first is what happened
during House of M, because very few people know what actually did
occur.

X-Men 171 picks up after the House of M one shot. Pete Milligan
and Salvador Larroca are getting back into the action elements of
the comic. Upcoming issues will be "very action packed."

Apocalypse is also on his way back at a time when Mutantkind is
at its darkest. But, Lowe teased, is he coming back to help or as
another threat the world has to deal with?

There will also be an Apocalypse vs. Dracula story from Frank
Tieri and Clayton Henry.

Uncanny X-Men's Chris Claremont and Chris Bachallo are working on
an "End Grace" arc that deals with the Decimation. Then it also
starts something new with the Shi'ar Death Commandoes. Billy Tan
is doing some amazing stuff for Uncanny coming up in the next few
issue. Oh yeah, and Cannonball is returning to the X-Men.

Craig Kyle and Christ Yost are on New X-Men. Issue 20 is a very
important issue. A major villain will be returning in upcoming
issues and, for those of you who might have missed the
announcement, X-23 is also joining the team.

Wolverine # 36 is written by Daniel Way. It's called "Origins and
Endings." Wolverine is one of the characters coming out of the
House of M who is the most changed and affected by that
storyline.

Astonishing X-Men's Cassaday and Whedon will surprise you at
every turn. They are doing amazing stuff in upcoming issues, but
we can't really tell you what.

Spider-man: The Other ties together all of the Spidey books. The
final part of The Other from JM Straczynski and Mike Wieringo has
major events that affects Spider-Man's moving forward. All of the
stuff you need to know about upcoming Spider-Man storylines are
unfolding in this story. The Other the issues are selling out
fast, so it's important to get them while you can.

One of the last things before the floor was opened up for a
Question and Answer session was a quick image with a ton of
Marvel characters on it and the words: "Marvel 2006 Whose Side
Are You On?" Lowe teased it's the biggest event of 2006 and
people should stay tuned to find out more.

Again, with this question and answer, this reporter tried to get
down the information word for word when possible, but the
associate editor talked quickly and that made it tough sometimes.

QUESTION: What's coming up in Ultimate Spider-Man?

ANSWER: We'll have a Silver Sable arc that ties slightly into the
video game. Bendis has some really cool plans. Ultimate Deadpool
and Ultimate Omega Red are going to show in these pages and there
will be a Kitty Pryde/Mary Jane team up at some point.

QUESTION: Where's Thor? What's happening with him?

ANSWER: Keep looking for a new Thor, but pick up Thor: Blood Oath
for now. We have stuff in store for him for the future.

QUESTION: What are some of the plans for Brubaker and Lark's
Daredevil?

ANSWER: Ed and Michael have some crazy stuff going on with the
character. Matt Murdock [Daredevil] is going to get into some
more legal problems that don't go well for him. Keep an eye on
the comic. I like it when things don't go well for the heroes and
there will be a lot of that this year with this comic.

QUESTION: What's happening with the Moon Knight?

ANSWER: Charlie Huston and David Finch are working on the
miniseries. The first issue comes out this February. Moon
Knight's also appearing in Ultimate Spider-Man.

QUESTION: What's going on with the Marvel Max line of books?

ANSWER: Right now it's strictly the Punisher until another idea
comes along that suits the line.

QUESTION: What about Supreme Powers?

ANSWER: It will become a Marvel Knights book called Squadron
Supreme. We want to reach out to more people, because it is one
of the best book we put out by far. Look for new characters, new
costumes, and a more all ages friendly book. We weren't using a
lot of the aspects of the Max line within this series anyways.

QUESTION: Are there plans for any more Ultimate ongoings?

ANSWER: There are no plans right now for another ongoing series,
but a lot of new characters will be in the books we already have.

QUESTION: What can you tell us about Neil Gaiman and the
Eternals?

ANSWER: We won't announce the artists yet or the publishing
schedules, but it's a super cool idea. Plus we will be reprinting
Jack Kirby's Eternal books, so pick them up in the interim until
more news comes out about Gaiman's Eternals. Right now, we are
planning on having it be seven issue with the first and last
issue being double sized.

QUESTION: What's going on with all the ads in the comics?

ANSWER: Dan Buckley did a lot to reduce the ads. There will be a
lot less ads and the ones we have will be towards the back of the
issues. We also are going to put more preview pages of comics
from upcoming stories in our books, so people can get a feel for
the story without having to necessarily buy it.

QUESTION: Any plans for Hawkeye or Black Cat?

ANSWER: I can't talk about Black Cat or Hawkeye, but I have heard
some rumblings around the office about them both.

QUESTION: What's going on with the Marvel Handbooks?

ANSWER: They will be an "A to Z" guide for the characters.

QUESTION: Is Marvel still doing the Encyclopedias?

ANSWER: Look for an encyclopedia around the release of X3.

QUESTION: What's going on with the Incredible Hulk?

ANSWER: Planet Hulk that ties in with Hulk and links him to the
Illumantis - and it will be major.

QUESTION: What is Michael Turner working on?

ANSWER: Wait and see.

QUESTION: What's going on with the Black Panther?

ANSWER: Some big things happen to him in the next year. Shang Chi
and Luke Cage are also coming back.

QUESTION: When will Kevin Smith finish things?

ANSWER: He's done with Black Cat. Daredevil Target is next on
this list he's working on right now.

QUESTION: Is the reason that Decimation happened because Grant
Morrison introduced so many new mutants in his X-Men run?

ANSWER: No. Grant Morrison did amazing work for us. Decimation is
to make a smaller more special group of mutants in the Marvel
Universe. It was becoming a little out of control here. We wanted
to get back to Stan Lee's original idea of the Mutants as a small
special group of people.

QUESTION: Will the New Avengers feel the effects of the House of
M?

ANSWER: Oh Yeah! They're dealing with a lot of hurt feelings and
going to feel the effects the hardest.

QUESTION: What can you tell us of Stephen King's Dark Tower?

ANSWER: It's the untold stories from the Dark Tower mythos. Jae
Lee is doing the art. Stephen King has been to the office a few
times, but the comic is in its early stages right now and we're
not sure how involved he will be in the miniseries.

QUESTION: Any there any more Marvel exclusives?

ANSWER: Pasqual Ferry is now exclusive to Marvel Comics.

JOCK IS EXCLUSIVE TO DC COMICS

Jock has told THE PULSE that he's signed an exclusive with
publisherDC Comics. The Losers artist was glad to give us a few
details about why he'd want to be tied down to any one mainstream
publisher and tell us a little about his plans after The Losers
ends.

Jock said it was the opportunity to be "set for the foreseeable
future" that interested him the most in signing an exclusive.
Well ... that and the financial bonus he received for signing on
the dotted line. He said, "I'm one-hundred-percent happy to be
working with DC. Sure, I miss drawing some other characters -
Andy Diggle and I have another Lenny Zero story we'd like to tell
at 2000AD, but, honestly, all my creative impulses are given free
reign at DC. I can't speak highly enough of my editors, and my
editor on The Losers Pornsak Pichetshote has been the best name
in comics. Period."

Jock admitted he enjoyed the collaboration with former editor
Will Dennis as well.

"I'm currently working on the last arc of The Losers at the
moment," Jock continued. "I've just drawn the death of ***** and
had an absolute blast doing it! Other than that, I start on
covers for a new Vertigo series and covers for Nightwing, too.
I'm not the biggest fan of brightly coloured superheroes or
villains, so I'm looking forward to the challenge. After The
Losers, I do a one-issue fill-in on Swamp Thing, full colour,
which I'm really looking forward to. The story has a lot of
psychological elements so it'll be a real chance to go all out on
the illustration front. I'm going to try and bring a real horror
edge to it - something I don't get to play around with so much in
my other work."

Along with working for a great editor, Jock said what he's
enjoyed the most about his relationship with publisher DC Comics
is the support he's received working on each and every project.
"I'm encouraged to really push myself, to try new things, and
it's a really satisfying place to be," Jock said.

Jock and writer Andy Diggle talked with THE PULSE about the end
of their popular Vertigo series, The Losers extensively in an
interview that will be run this week. Keep checking back with us
to read that feature. Jock said readers should not miss the last
few issues of that series for one reason: finite story. "This
story has a beginning, a middle, and an end," Jock said. "We
don't have to worry about keeping the characters going, we don't
need to worry about the lasting effects of what happens to the
characters. We can do whatever we want - and we have."
