Transformers Saga Gets Rebooted
Are there experimental ways for citizens of Cybertron to get
along in peace and harmony? Nay! Only the tried-and-true method
of hammer-smashed-face will yield the results that clear the path
of evil and insanity.

The stage: Maximals are pitted against evil Predacons. The
outcome? Who knows? The problem for descendents of Cybertron have
gone far beyond one-on-one grudge matches between Megatron and
Optimus Prime. Civil war is now on a global scale. There are a
lot of facts to get straight. So to clean house, we first need to
digest Transformers: Beast Wars #1 from IDW Publishing, featuring
the long-awaited pairing of writer Simon Furman and artist Don
Figueroa!

At the heart of the evil tendrils that seek to crush the life of
Cybertron, we see that the Predacon general Magmatron plans to
deviate from his mission to capture the renegade Megatron. True
evil goes beyond the roots of the ragweed. It is also in the
parasites that feed off the roots. And the parasite to watch is
Magmatron, as his true intention is to bring about the complete
destruction of Cybertron!

Marvel's Astonishing Sequel
Finally, after an all-too-long hiatus, Marvel's Dynamic Duo
return to Astonishing X-Men - the comic that breathed new life
into the Merry Mutants! That's right; Joss Whedon and John
Cassaday are taking back the helm of Astonishing X-Men for
another year-long run that's sure to deliver more of the action,
mystery, and adventure that have become the staple of Marvel's
premiere mutant book!

Combining Whedon's intricate characterization and signature dead-
on dialogue from his amazing television serials Buffy the Vampire
Slayer, Angel, and Firefly, with the amazing pencils of Cassaday
(Planetary and Desperadoes), Marvel unleashed one of the best X-
Men stories in decades upon a completely unprepared and skeptical
audience. Within the first few pages of Astonishing X-Men #1,
naysayer fans were blown out of the water, and had to hold on for
dear life through a turbulent emotional and physical adventure.
As the first two story arcs played out to critical acclaim and
the jaw-dropping, heart-pounding intrigue continued to grow,
Whedon and Cassaday rocked the very foundation of the Xavier
Institute for Gifted Youngsters.

Did you miss the return of Colossus last August? Were you going
to wait for the trade paperback? Are you insane? Folks, if you're
missing this, you're missing one of the best team books in comics
right now! But, it's not too late to jump on board with the
beginning of this entirely new story arc. With another 12 issues
of excitement and, of course, painful realizations laid before
our feet, it's safe to say that Whedon and Cassaday are walking
in the massive footfalls of Claremont and Byrne!

According to Marvel - and if the last few pages of issue #12 are
any indication of what's in store - fans are in for another year-
long roller coaster ride of incredible mutant comics! Be sure to
check it all out in Astonishing X-Men #13 offered in this month's
Marvel Previews supplement!

Bendis' Sam & Twitch Run Collected
Before Brian Michael Bendis took The Avengers and the X-Men into
strange new territories, the writer dabbled in fiction outside of
the super-hero genre. Bendis was a big fan of detective fiction,
and he put his passion for gritty crime stories into graphic
novels such as Goldfish, and Jinx. Later, his comics series Torso
would be collected in trade paperback, and these publishing
ventures soon drew the attention of Image Comics.

Image, of course, was home to Spawn, and two of the detectives
that were regulars in the Spawn series had potential to becomes
stars in their own right. They were a Mutt and Jeff team that
played off on one another's shortcomings, but maintained a
brotherhood that was typical of cops in any city precinct. That
bond is shown to have more value than any pay raise in the Sam &
Twitch: The Brian Michael Bendis Collection Volume 1 TP.

Cops get career-making cases, and it's up to them to beat the
challenges so as to move up the ladder of command. But when a
case is mired in widespread corruption throughout the police
department, a career-maker can become a career-killer, and
opportunities for advancement pale in comparison to sleepless
nights and constant anxiety.

In this new Bendis Collection trade paperback, detectives Sam and
Twitch have a lot in common with insomniacs. You would too,
should you find out that the murders you're investigating are
overshadowed by bio-engineered body parts. What started out as an
investigation into mafia-related murders has turned into
something we'd expect to see in The X-Files.

Bendis used nine issues to tell his first Sam & Twitch story arc,
and now all issues have been collected in color along with an
Ashley Wood cover gallery, and other special bonuses.

Look for the Sam & Twitch: The Brian Michael Bendis Collection
Volume 1 TP from Image Comics in the Premiere section of
Previews!

X-Men Lured To The System
Upper Deck wants to make a lot of loud noise for TCG gamers this
month. They don't subscribe to game night being docile. In their
minds, cacophonous rowdy behavior should accompany roleplaying
objectives that play out in the Marvel universe. And what would
those objectives be, you ask?

The Marvel TCG: X-Men does not want you to be conservative!

You are at the steering wheel of your destiny, so think outside
of the box and imagine the possibilities at your fingertips once
you manipulate characters that can produce a hybrid of
consequences.

With the rich history of X-Men adventures from the past, you can
draw from previous continuity and fuse it with your own future
aspirations of evil conquest, or ... nation building. Ripple upon
ripple of life-shattering adventures can be yours to play out
with the Marvel TCG: X-Men that incorporates X-Men characters
into the popular Vs. System!

C'mon! Why sell yourself short as a storyteller when this 110-
card expansion featuring Wolverine, Professor X, Magneto,
Phoenix, Mystique, Colossus, Nightcrawler, and other X-Men heroes
and villains make it impossible for you to be without ideas for
random chaos? There are so many unresolved sub-plots to tinker
with it's like being Santa in his workshop. The possibilities are
endless!

If you feel the need to sit at the head of the table for the
Hellfire Club one minute, then relish the idea of being
headmaster at School for Gifted Youngsters the next, then you
should check out how easily you can put your megalomaniac
tendencies to use with Upper Deck's Marvel TCG: X-Men. Look for
it in the Games section of Previews!

Resolve That's Weather-Proof
In the face of a twister that's going to rip up pavement,
shopping centers, and gas stations, most people run for cover to
weather the storm, then re-emerge later to put their life back in
order once the "all-clear" has been signaled. The total loss of
property and finances is so great that the rest of your life for
the next year will be spent over pieces of rubble that were once
the foundation of your existence. This change in lifestyle is so
overwhelming, there's little time to think of anything else. But
if you were to look over the edge of your own sandbox, what would
you see? And what would you do?

Ben Avery and a variety of artists answer these questions in
Tempest from Alias Entertainment. This full-color 32-page book
takes readers down a path littered with destruction, and asks
what can be done in the face of despair. When life takes you by
the ankles and shakes you upside down over a pit of alligators,
do you plead for your own life, or do you look for the best way
to reach out and punch life in the face?

Avery and company say punch life in the face! Do not go quietly
into the night. Find strength in your weakness. And find hope in
the maw of anxiety.

Proceeds from the sale of Tempest will be donated to the Disaster
Relief efforts of the Salvation Army. Look for Tempest from Alias
Entertainment in the Comics section of Previews!

Double Trouble on Friday the 13th!
Avatar Press has seen a huge fan reaction to its new line of
horror titles, as many have religiously called for a return to
the hey-days of gore books. Back in the 90s, horror books were
abundant, and zombies had picnics in graveyards on any given
Sunday. Avatar has done its best to bring back the odors of this
once festive period in comic publishing, and has put out titles
capitalizing on such popular fright figures as Leatherface (The
Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Jason (Friday the 13th), and Michael
Myers (Halloween).

Fans of Friday the 13th will want to pay particular attention to
Avatar this month as a 2-issue mini-series by Mike Wolfer adapts
one of the classic horror movies of yesteryear for comic
consumption. The Friday the 13th: Jason Vs. Jason X #1 gives us a
faithful gore-drenched face-off against Jason Voorhees, and his
future self Jason X. Talk about identity crisis!

If you thought in space no one can hear you scream, check out how
no one can hear you die, either. In the halls of an interstellar
pleasure cruiser both Jason from the 1980s and his future alter-
ego have declared its hunting season on warm-blooded mammals that
walk on two legs!

Look for Friday the 13th: Jason Vs. Jason X #1 from Avatar Press
in the Comics section of Previews!

House of Pain
Dynamite Entertainment becomes the new home for a character who
first reared her head in the 90s-and her love interest was The
Punisher! A gal who has the hots for Frank Castle can't be all
bad. And when you see that she's going to use her superhuman
regenerative powers to fight the same scum as Frank Castle,
you'll flock to the new Painkiller Jane #1 from Jimmy Palmiotti,
Joe Quesada, and Lee Moder. Look for this new series from
Dynamite Entertainment in the Comics section of Previews!

Tony Millionaire Goes Nuts!
The ghost of Timothy Leary appears to have invaded the
subconscious of Sock Monkey and Maakies creator Tony Millionaire.
The writer/artist has embarked on a new comic adventure that
features a protagonist who was created from cooking ingredients
by tailless mice. Using the power of our third eye in the middle
of our forehead, we further see that the Billy Hazelnuts HC also
features an evil steam-driven alligator and seeing-eye skunk.
Surreal hijinks unchained! Look for the Billy Hazelnuts HC from
Fantagraphics in the Comics section of Previews!

Feed Your Head, Alice
Rod Espinosa has returned to the classics. He has reached a
junction many writers and artists have crossed in their careers.
When you realize that the great ones are great because they can't
be topped, the urge is then to see if your brand of shoe polish
can make the dancing shoes snappier. Such is the case for
Espinosa's Alice In Wonderland #1. An updated version of the
classic tale that follows a young girl's voyage into a strange
land filled with disappearing cats and talking inanimate objects,
you can find the first issue of this mini-series from Antarctic
Press in the Comics section of Previews.

The Invaders Return
Just because we sent them packing the first time doesn't mean
they won't return. They can get antibiotics for colds at the
nearest interplanetary pharmacy. It's just a hop, skip, and jump
past the Milky Way. And once they get a jump on the bug they
picked up from Earth, they're going to come back with renewed
vigor for worldwide colonization! See War of the Worlds: Second
Wave #1 to learn if humans can once again drive out the invaders,
or end up as roasted cows served with steak sauce! Look for it
from Boom! Studios in the Comics section of Previews!
