Subject: Artist/editor Seth Tobocman interviewed on the radio
Date: Fri, 27 Jan 2006 13:23:54 -0500

Please Post and Forward to appropriate chat rooms, web pages and
e-lists!

1. Next show: Tuesday night (Wednesday morning) Jan. 31 (Feb 1).
Live interview with the acclaimed artist and long-time editor of
World War 3 Illustrated.  I think World War 3 Illustrated is one
of the most important and artistic comics coming out right now
and Seth has been editing it since 1980. Contemporary, relevant,
cutting edge and dramatic.  He also has had some politically-
oriented art shows lately and was a contributor to the recent
Wobblies graphic novel.  Another substitution for Susan Brown's
"Punk and Hardcore."

2. A free sample of the 'Nuff Said! dvd (the face for radio is on
video!) is posted on the web site in several formats so you can
see it whether you have dial-up, a mac or a pc.  It has a little
of each artist interview (Mike Kaluta, Mike Oeming, Sean Chen &
Louis Small, Jr.).
http://www.comicbookradioshow.com/dvd1samples.html

3. My previous show, Julie Schwart'z last interview, is
supposedly available on the web at  http://www.archive.wbai.org.
Go to Jan. 18, 3:30 AM.  Julie, of course, is the legendary
creator of the fanzine, of the silver age of comics and one of
the most respected editors in the history of comic books.

4. Also on the 'Nuff Said! web site are the radio interviews I
did with Will Eisner, Scott Roberts, Faith Hubley plus a link to
David Bernstein.  Go to
http://www.comicbookradioshow.com/ra1.html

5. The WBAI signal (99.5 FM) gets out to New Haven, CT; East
Hampton, LEI.; the Pocono's of PA; Trenton and Princeton, NJ and
Putnam County, NY.  There is a live stream, also, and the
connection is easy, even with a dial-up modem (it's what I use).
Just go to the web site below.

6. In two weeks (Feb. 14/15) I'll have several creators from
small press comics as guests and will be offering their comics as
a tax-deductible premium to membership in WBAI.  'Nuff Said!
needs to make an impression on station management!  Any comic
book store that becomes a member of the station will get their
business mentioned on a comic book-oriented radio show in New
York City.

      Please spread the word!  Thanks!

Fannishly,
Ken Gale, producer, interviewer and host

CHARLIE CHAN!
 ---------------------------------------------
SINGING MONSTER MAKE MUCH AMUSEMENT

In 1936 CHARLIE CHAN AT THE OPERA was made, and the ads blared
"KARLOFF VS CHAN."  In the mystery, Boris Karloff played a
sympathetic "red herring" as an opera star being framed.  His
"Devil" make up for the opera scenes was stellar, but his singing
was dubbed, of course.  Lesser known is that Boris actually DID
sing for the scenes.  Since the lyrics were in Italian and his
voice would not be used anyway, he sang out loudly the names of
cities in California such as LOS ANGELES, SAN FRANCISCO and SAN
DIEGO.

Catch A Wave With Arcana Studio

Koni Waves, a sexy, action-packed, horror miniseries washes
ashore in March from Arcana Studio.

Honolulu, Hawaii. 701s black and white horror magazines, B-movie
charm, beautiful beach babesS Koni Waves is inspired by all of
these and contains more Tiki goodness than you can throw a
pineapple at. The first issue of Koni Waves arrives in March from
Arcana Studio and readers are in for a tropical treat.

Created by Mark Poulton, Stephen Sistilli, and Dexter Weeks, Koni
Waves introduces private detective Koni Kanawai, an ex-cop in
Honolulu, Hawaii who worked her way through college as a dancer
at the Apanapana Ballroom. When a drinking problem gets her
booted from the force, Koni starts her own detective agency. With
the aid of Pete her surf buddy, Krystal a colleague from her
dancing days, and Huko the owner of her favorite watering hole,
Koni encounters a series of supernatural events that leads her to
discover a dark side of her island not seen in the usual tourist
spots.

In the first of a three issue limited series, a missing friend
leads Koni to Prince Hopohopo who is using human sacrifices to
raise Puea the God of Darkness in the form of a living Tiki
statue! To coincide with its release, Shocker Toys LLP has
planned a series of licensed Koni Waves figures for their popular
Shockini line. Based on designs by series co-creator, Dexter
Weeks, the figures will feature jaw-dropping comic accurate
detail with levels of articulation Shockini collectors demand.
Puea is slated to be the first Koni Waves character to get the
Shockini treatment with a release date of Summer 2006.

In addition, issue 1 will feature two retailer exclusive covers
from Stormwatch Comics in West Berlin, New Jersey. Each cover
will feature new artwork from Stephen Sistilli.

Other adventures presented in the limited series feature Koni
battling several of the island1s most fearsome supernatural
creatures including a group of vampire surfers, the Black Bear
Clan. During the 18001s, the island was visited by a mysterious
female tourist. Whispers about vampirism were heard and when this
femme fatale took a fancy to a local surfing champion, Keanu, the
Black Bear Clan was born. Finally, a fun-filled ski weekend to
the majestic peaks of Mauna Kea is interrupted by dark
undercurrents at the local observatory. Police chalk it up to a
sight seeing accident, but Koni knows it1s much more.

Surf's up in March as Koni Waves #1 featuring a flip cover by
Marat (X-Force: Shatterstar) Mychaels arrives in stores from
Arcana Studio.

Koni Waves can be found in Previews this month under Arcana
Studio and is Order Code:  JAN062849

JOHN TADDEO TAKES HOME THE GOLD

Writer/Director Wins Grand Goldie Award for Short Films Zoom Suit
and The Inside Job

January 24, 2006, Palm Beach, FL - Writer/director John Taddeo
has been named a winner of a Grand Goldie Award for directing the
short films, Zoom Suit and The Inside Job. Since April, 2005,
both films have won numerous awards including Best in Show, Grand
Festival Award and numerous Best Animation Awards.

Taddeo's animated short film Zoom Suit is often described as a
superhero Cinderella story. In Zoom Suit, a comedic chain of
events leads to a latch key kid mistaking a battle suit of alien
origin for a Halloween costume.

In The Inside Job, three bumbling mobsters struggle with the
language barrier while interrogating a Spanish speaking bag man
zip tied to a butchers table. The film pokes fun at serious
topics of profanity, violence, vulgarity, racism and blasphemy in
an attempt to dis-empower their serious natures with humor.
Audiences roar at Taddeo's explanation of the etymology of the
word "douche bag" explained to the tune of "Pomp and
Circumstance" (aka "Graduation March").

The Goldie Film Awards is a competition recognizing excellence
and expertise in film and TV worldwide. The Goldie Film Awards
was founded in 1984 to give recognition to outstanding film and
video productions, TV-programs, TV-spot commercials, audio
productions, internet productions and scripts and to inspire
creativity. The administrator is an experienced feature film
producer from a 3-generation film/TV production family. Since
1984 hundreds of films and TV-spot commercials have received
awards in the previous programs.

Winning a Goldie Film Award is an extremely prestigious honor as
entries for the Goldie Film Awards competition do not compete
against each other - instead they are judged against a high
standard of expertise and excellence. The Judges are top film/TV
production professionals and Goldie Awards winners. Entries which
attain a score of 7.1 to 8.9 on the 10-point scale will be
finalists for Silver Goldie Film Awards. Entries scoring 9.0 to
9.9 are Grand Goldie Award winners.

"This is only the second time that both films have won an award
at the same festival as they tend to be enjoyed by very different
audiences," joked Taddeo. "The only thing I can say is that if
you picked up Zoom Suit at one of the festivals for the kids make
sure you picked up Zoom Suit. If you accidentally grabbed The
Inside Job, you're going to be answering a lot of questions
tonight."

The award-winning animated short Zoom Suit, created by John
Taddeo, can be seen online at www.superverse.com. The Zoom Suit
comic book will be solicited under Superverse in the February
edition of Previews for items shipping in April 2006 on page 313.
It can be ordered using product code: FEB063259.

THIS APRIL, MEGA-HOT SINGING DUO THE VERONICAS RETURN TO THE
PAGES OF ARCHIE COMICS !

Back in April, Archie Comics readers were given a special treat:
a guest-appearance by real live 20-year old identical twins Jess
and Lisa Origliasso, the hit singing duo who call themselves THE
VERONICAS!  Inspired to name their group after Archie Comics' own
"Veronica Lodge," the girls have managed to make a big hit on the
comic racks, too, and now they're back for an encore in ARCHIE &
FRIENDS #100!

With natural born singing and songwriting talent, fantastic
looks, and a tough and edgy sound with hooks and harmonies
galore, The Veronicas' have created quite the buzz in music
industry circles.  Teaming with pop music's top songwriters and
producers, The Veronicas are basking in the success of their
sizzling debut CD, "The Secret Life of The Veronicas."  Featuring
styles as diverse as rock, hip hop and R&B, this collection of
infectious pop confections is anchored by the duo's unique
harmonic blend.

Currently on tour across the U.S., Jess and Lisa have a special
guest along for the ride: Veronica Lodge!  Be on the lookout for
The Veronicas' tour bus, featuring the likeness of comic books'
favorite rich girl painted on the side in an exclusive design
created by Archie Comics!

In the story, "Where in the World are the Veronicas," that tour
is in danger of being cut short.  The Archies think they've
landed their biggest gig ever, only to learn they've been entered
in a "battle of the bands" competing against The Veronicas.
Unbeknownst to the Archies, their new agent has hired a driver to
pick up singing twins Jess and Lisa at the airport and get them
"lost". and ends up picking up Veronica Lodge, too!  Will the
girls be able to make it back in time to perform?  Grab your
backstage pass for musical mirth and mayhem-order your copy of
ARCHIE & FRIENDS #100 today!

ARCHIE & FRIENDS #100, ships 4/19.  32-page, full color comic,
$2.25 US.  SCRIPT AND ART: Dan Parent.

JOURNEY TO THE PAST FOR HISTORICAL, HYSTERICAL FUN WITH ARCHIE &
HIS FRIENDS!
Over the years, loyal Archie Comics readers have been treated to
many variations of their favorite characters.  When spy movies
and TV shows were in vogue, Archie and his friends became secret
agents in the "Man From R.I.V.E.R.D.A.L.E." stories.  When
superheroes were all the rage on TV, the Archie gang gained
superpowers as "Archie's Superteens."  When bubble-gum rock
zoomed up the pop charts, the mega-hit band, "The Archies" was
born.

One long-time mainstay of the Archie stories have been those
stories which place the familiar Archie Comics characters in
historical situations.  Through the ages, "ancestors" of Archie
and his friends have been through it all.  Whether cavemen
avoiding dinosaurs, ancient philosophers, medieval royalty,
explorers discovering new worlds, inventors creating new
innovations, lawmen in the old west, or simply Americans in an
earlier decade, the Archie teens have reflected upon and kidded
past history.

This  April, a trio of stories built around historical themes is
sure to carry on the Archie Comics tradition of thrills and
laughter!

BETTY #155, ships 4/5.  32-page, full color comic, $2.25 US.
"Family Glee": Researching her family tree, Betty can't help but
imagine if there were Archies and Veronicas in her ancestors'
lives!  SCRIPT: George Gladir.  ART: Stan Goldberg.

Comics readers a glimpse at some familiar faces. like the "Archie
One" version of Jughead and Sir Jugalot. as well as some other
clever creations such as Pontius Nosus, a little known Roman
senator, and "Mad Dog" Jones, a rough and tumble cowboy in the
old west!  SCRIPT AND ART: Fernando Ruiz.

VERONICA #170, ships 4/26.  32-page, full color comic, $2.25 US.
"Queen of Denial": A trip to the museum inspires Veronica to

to build a mall. and Archie is still the most eligible peasant in
town!  SCRIPT AND ART: Dan Parent.
