Twenty- four years later, Diamond is the world's largest distributor of English-language comics and related merchandise, serving specialty market retailers and suppliers worldwide. When Geppi founded Diamond after a Baltimore, MD/Washington, DC-area comic distributor folded, he knew firsthand what retailers needed and expected: diverse product selection, fair pricing & discounts, reliable support and, most importantly, respect. "Diamond continues to expand at an impressive rate as we approach the quarter-century mark," said Geppi, "but we're still dedicated to the same goals: Providing our customers with the best products, best services and best support possible." Even before he founded Diamond, Geppi understood the kind of products and services retailers expected from their distributor. A lifelong comics reader who became a successful retailer in 1974, he was well versed in both the artistic and commercial aspects of the industry. Under Geppi's leadership, Diamond's employees have cultivated that small, local operation into an internationally known distributor committed to bringing retailers around the world a wide selection of profitable products and useful retailing tools, including the Previews catalog and its support publications, Diamond Online and many others. "Looking to the future, Diamond continues to face a new world of challenges and opportunities," said Geppi. "As always, we look forward to working closely with our suppliers and customers to ensure the continued success of everyone involved." Diamond Gem Award Ballot in February Previews Retailer Order Form Specialty retailers can cast their votes for the products and suppliers from the past year that have made the comics specialty market shine the brightest with the 16th annual Diamond Gem Awards, a ballot for which can be found in the February Previews Retailer Order Form. "The 2005 Gem Award nominees embody the finest of what the comic industry has to offer," said Diamond President and CEO Steve Geppi. "While all of Diamond's suppliers and their products are important aspects of the overall specialty market, the Gems offer our customers a wonderful opportunity to honor those that have been particularly beneficial in helping businesses grow during the past year." Selected by a panel of Diamond product specialists, nominees were chosen on the basis of their overall impact on the industry, while comics and related merchandise were chosen on the merits of their quality, creativity and sales performance over the past year. A full listing of this year's Gem Award nominees can be found on pages 144-146 of February's Previews Retailer Order Form, which can also be used to cast votes. Additionally, retailers can vote via Previews on Windows and the Initial Order Entry feature of Diamond Online's Retailer Services Area, both of which also contain complete lists of nominees. The winners of the 2006 Gem Awards will be announced in April. Diamond Announces AvP Import Program In conjunction with Koto Inc. of Japan and AOSHIMA, Diamond has announced an ambitious Alien vs. Predator (AvP) Import Program for 2006! Joining two of the most popular and highest grossing sci-fi franchises of all time, Alien vs. Predator leapt onto screens during the summer of 2004 and was an instant hit with theatergoers! Pitting the world famous creatures from Alien and Predator film franchises in a winner-takes-all death match, Alien vs. Predator gave sci-fi fans the film they were begging for and raked in over $100 million worldwide in the process. Separately these science fiction powerhouses accounted for over $700 million at the box office, but together the properties offer collectors some of the greatest products to come out of Japan. Diamond's 2006 AvP Import Program will capitalize on the popularity of this incredible convergence. Over the next four months, Diamond will roll out a series of dedicated products that can't be obtained anywhere else! Coming from Koto and AOSHIMA are 12 highly detailed pieces that depict the soldiers from the AvP conflict. With the first series of new releases rolling out this month, that gives retailers four chances to stock their shelves with the hottest model kits from Koto! Diamond Announces Single-Number Invoice Improvement In response to retailer suggestions, and effective with shipments the week of January 4, all Diamond invoices now feature a single invoice number. Previously, invoices contained separate invoice numbers for products coming from Dark Horse Comics, DC Comics, Image Comics, Marvel Comics and Diamond. Now, products from all five will be listed under the same invoice number. However, publisher names will still be displayed next to each product's name in the body of the invoice, making it easy to determine which items come from which vendor. (Please Note: Retailers whose automated invoicing and inventory systems are currently configured to use the multiple invoice numbers should make necessary adjustments prior to receiving their January 4 invoices.) Retailers with further questions about this announcement should contact their Diamond Customer Service Representative. Diamond Unveils Confirmed-Cancelled Advisory Emails Acting on retailer suggestions, and effective the week of January 9, Diamond has unveiled the Confirmed-Cancelled Advisory Email, a new, automated service designed to alert Diamond customers when a Direct Ship-reordered item is confirmed during the ordering process, and cancelled during the picking process due to an unexpected shortage. Sent with the header, "CONFIRMED-CANCELLED ADVISORY," this email will contain the Item Code, Description, Quantity Unfilled and Order Number (when applicable) for all cancelled, previously confirmed items from your most recent Direct Ship reorder. "With thousands of SKUs in inventory, it's extremely difficult to guarantee every item count is correct," explained Diamond Director of Customer Service and Inside Sales Eric Beck. "With the new Confirmed-Cancelled Advisory Email, we're trying to be more proactive and notify retailers when a product they ordered was listed in stock but ultimately not available during the pick process. The new email also gives our customers the option of placing a second reorder immediately or at their convenience, rather than having to wait until the direct ship order arrives without a given product." Retailers with further questions about this announcement should contact their Diamond Customer Service Representative. Diamond Unveils Improved Look, Layout for Diamond Dialogue In a move intended to make its monthly magazine a more effective sales tool for retailers, Diamond unveiled an improved design for Diamond Dialogue in February. Changes include: . Streamlined Product News articles, featuring larger art and scaled-back text focusing specifically on descriptions and selling points; . Product News sidebars listing titles and item codes for in-stock merchandise related to products found on a given page; and . Revamped design, including new looks for the magazine's cover, interior and logo. "I've seen Dialogue go through a number of changes over the years, and I honestly think it's never looked or read better than it does now. Hopefully our customers will feel the same way," said Diamond Marketing Supervisor - Comics Specialty Market Nate Shelton. "And to everyone who had a hand in the redesign - salute!" Diamond welcomes all feedback on the new Dialogue.
