will almost always be printed, so give us a shot.

Commentary on the state of the industry, and personal
observations and reflections related to comics are *most* likely
to be included in our publication.

PLEASE, no material on gaming, non-comic derived media, role
playing, collectible card games, Anime or other hobbies or
collectibles other than comic books. That also includes plugs for

                                               ComicBkNet@aol.com

This week I have an interesting story. This happened to me on
Thursday. I was doing an errand in town and flicked the radio to
the Classic Rock station WZLX in Boston. Playing was "Pre Road
Dawns" by Crosby, Stills and Nash. After that, the DJ said they
were the Classic Icons of the day and he would give out a prize
to the fifth caller who could answer a trivia  question about the
song. The question was, what other classic rock artist (not Neal
Young) provided back up vocals for that song?

Well, you know me and trivia. I had an inspiration and dialed the
number on my cell phone. To my surprise it was not busy and I
heard the DJ say, "Do YOU know who it is?" I gave him my guess
and he said that was it! Did I know that or just guess? Honestly,
I don't know why I knew, but it just popped in my head like some
long lost bit of information. The answer?

First a word from our sponsor, this week's new comic suggestions:

DC COMICS
  Green Lantern #8 $2.99
  JSA Classified #8 $2.50
Legion Of Super Heroes #14 $2.99
  Outsiders #33 $2.50
Rann Thanagar War Infinite Crisis Special $4.99<--Pick o' week!
  Seven Soldiers Bulleteer #3 (Of 4) $2.99

DORK STORM PRESS
  Nodwick #31$2.99

IMAGE COMICS
  City Of Heroes #10 $2.99
  Pvp #22 $2.99

MARVEL COMICS
  Sentinel #4 (Of 5) $2.99
  Supreme Power Nighthawk #6 (Of 6) $2.99
  X-Factor #3 $2.99
  X-Men The End Men And X-Men #2 (Of 6) $2.99

The prize for getting the right answer is a 3 DVD set of Crosby,
Stills, and Nash concerts. It is, as the saying goes, in the mail.
Rather than tell the answer I will open it up to the Woodstock
generation among our readers. Does anyone else know who it was?

Subject: It's a Small Press Party on the radio
Date: Fri, 3 Feb 2006 14:43:55 -0500

Please Post and Forward
to appropriate chat rooms, web pages and e-lists!

1. Next show: Two Tuesday nights from now: Feb. 14 (aka Wednesday
morning Feb. 15).  Special guest stars plus writers and artists
from several different small press companies: Sam Vera and
Jonathan Syphax of Crazee Comics, Rachel Kadushin of Best Friends
Productions and Mercy Van Vlack of Evolution Comics. We'll be
discussing writing, drawing, editing, production, publishing,
distribution and our inspirations. When this many creative people
get together, there is inevitably a party atmosphere. There will
also be a lot of surprise guests throughout the show.

Plus, our guests' comics, and more, will be available to WBAI
members as a premium. WBAI's Membership Drive will be on and I
urge every 'Nuff Said! listener to become a member of the
station.  This is one of the few times getting comics is tax
deductible.  'Nuff Said! needs to make a financial impression on
station management!  Any comic book store that becomes a member
of the station will get their business mentioned on the one and
only comic book-oriented radio show in New York City.  Another
substitution for Susan Brown's "Punk and Hardcore."

2. The last episode of 'Nuff Said!, with Seth Tobocman of World
War 3 Illustrated, is currently in the WBAI archives.
http://www.archive.wbai.org.  Go to Feb. 1, 3:30 AM.  We talked
about art as communication, political cartoons of the '30s,
impressionism, 9-11,

3. The show of Julie Schwartz's last interview will probably
never end up on the WBAI archives.  Not my doing, of course.
Some sort of error with the system. Julie, of course, is the
legendary creator of the fanzine, of the silver age of comics and
one of the most respected editors in the history of comic books.

4. A free sample of the 'Nuff Said! dvd (the face for radio is on
video!) is posted on the web site in several formats so you can
see it whether you have dial-up, a mac or a pc.  It has a little
of each artist interview (Mike Kaluta, Mike Oeming, Sean Chen &
Louis Small, Jr.).
http://www.comicbookradioshow.com/dvd1samples.html

5. Also on the 'Nuff Said! web site are the radio interviews I
did with Will Eisner, Scott Roberts, Faith Hubley plus a link to
David Bernstein.  Go to
http://www.comicbookradioshow.com/ra1.html.  You can also find
links to the WBAI Archived versions of 'Nuff Said!  Some of them
are expired, some are not.

6. The WBAI signal (99.5 FM) gets out to New Haven, CT; East
Hampton, L.I.; the Pocono's of PA; Trenton and Princeton, NJ and
Putnam County, NY.  There is a live stream, also, and the
connection is easy, even with a dial-up modem (it's what I use).
Just go to the web site below.

      Please spread the word!  Thanks!

THE MAGIC WORD

No one knows what scriptwriter came up with the word UNGAWA for
the Johnny Weissmueller TARZAN film series, but Johnny loved the
word and used it often in the movies.  So did his screen son
Johnny Sheffield. Sheffield was selected by Weissmueller himself
for the role of BOY and later went on to his own film series
BOMBA THE JUNGLE BOY, where he used the jungle phrase as well.
When asked on a talk show in the 1960's what the word meant,
Jungle Johnny explained it translated to "Get the hell out of
here!"

AT LEAST HE WAS USED TO THE UNIFORM

When LOIS AND CLARK:  THE NEW ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN was casting,
one fellow stood out among all others for the lead and was
awarded the role.  Only shortly before actual production, did
someone bring up that actor GERALD CHRISTOPHER had already played
the BOY  of Steel on the last four seasons of THE NEW ADVENTURES
OF SUPERBOY syndicated series.  The role was quickly recast with
DEAN CAIN as Superman.

CAN IT BE SO - IS ARCHIE REALLY MOVING OUT OF RIVERDALE?  FIND
OUT IN A SPECIAL STORY CREATED EXCLUSIVELY FOR FREE COMIC BOOK
DAY!

On May 6, 2006, the fifth annual Free Comic Book Day event will
be held in comic shops across the country.  In the past four
years, scores of free comic books were given away by
participating retailers to not only thank comic book aficionados,
but to introduce the wonderful world of comics to new readers and
fans as well!  Archie Comics has contributed to past events by
creating special issues that really capture the magic of comic
books, the dedication of comic book fans, and the eternal
popularity of Archie and his wonderful supporting cast from
Riverdale USA.

This year, the fabled town of Riverdale will be getting quite a
jolt, as a lucrative job offer for Archie's dad requires the
freckle-faced teen to move to another state!  In "Moving
Forward," Archie reflects back on his "Little Archie" days, and
sets off to tell his friends that he'll soon be moving.  Along
the way, he reminisces with Sabrina, Josie, "That Wilkin Boy,"
and more.  He even runs into recent acquaintances, Katy Keene
(fresh from last year's "Free Comic Book Day" appearance) and
real-life singing sensations, The Veronicas!  Breaking the news
to his inner circle of friends - Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and
Reggie - is toughest of all, but the gang relieve the sting by
throwing Archie a mega going-away part at Pop's. Can Archie
really be leaving Riverdale on the eve of Archie Comics' 65th
anniversary?  It's a story full of nostalgia, warmth, heart,
humor, and of course, a plethora of characters that have made the
Archie line of comics one of the most popular for 65 years!

Archie Comics appeal to an audience of young boys and girls, the
perfect entry-level customer for comic shops.  Approximately 55
to 60 percent of that audience is female, making Archie one of
the few and certainly most prominent publishers addressing the
reading needs of female adolescents.

Our demographics are just one of the reasons we consider
ourselves "READER BREEDERS."  Another reason is accessibility to
a general audience: with over 90 percent self-contained story
lines, Archie titles make the perfect "impulse purchase."  They
are read, cover-to-cover, several times over.  Furthermore,
research shows that children who begin reading comics with Archie
often move on to the adventurous fare of Marvel, DC and others as
they grow older.

Archie Comics are great any time of the year, with stories
written to match the seasons.  They are also the perfect comics
for special occasions, be it for "trick or treat" bags, Christmas
stocking stuffers and Chanukah gifts, Easter baskets, or summer
camp backpack stuffers.

In addition to children buying Archie comics, parents and
guardians also purchase them for their children.  In fact, Archie
is one of the only lines of comics passed on from one generation
to the next.  Parents who grew up reading Archie continue to buy
these comics for their children, because they know Archie is fun,
believable and safe for kids.

CASTILLO JOINS "ACTS OF THE SPIRIT" TEAM

Head Press Publishing has commissioned renowned comic-book artist
and fantasy illustrator, Tommy Castillo, (in collaboration with
Carsten Bradley), to create a classic cover illustration for the
upcoming Eye Witness: Acts of the Spirit, graphic novel.

Acts of the Spirit, is the second book of the Eye Witness Trilogy
of graphic novels. Each book in the series shares a contemporary
take of a different story from the Gospels, which intermingles
with a modern story of mystery and political intrigue.

According to Acts of the Spirit author-artist, Robert James
Luedke, "I had developed a design concept for this cover
illustration about 9 months ago, but knew in my heart I didn't
have the tools to do the finished piece justice. When I met Tommy
at the Wizard Texas convention, and had a chance to look at some
of the work he and his colorist, Carsten Bradley, were doing for
Devil's Due/Chaos, I knew I had found the team that could create
what I was looking for---a classic illustration that was
reminiscent of a renaissance era painting!"

Tommy Castillo's past comic credits include: DC's Detective
Comics, Green Arrow, Legend of the Dark Knight and the horror
miniseries, Toe Tags with Horror Legend, George Romero.
Currently, Tommy is still kicking around the Batman Universe as
well as serving as the artist of Evil Ernie from the new Chaos!
Comics. You can see more of Tommy's work at his website:
www.tommycastillo.com

Carsten Bradley is a rising star in the illustration field, his
most current projects include coloring duties on several Devil's
Due Publishing titles, including the Chaos Comics produced "Evil
Ernie in Santa Fe". He had done Illustration work for video-games
pioneer Atlus, and created illustrations and colors for several
independent publishers. His work can be viewed online at:
www.longhairproductions.com/vagabondarts

Eye Witness: Acts of the Spirit, will be available through comic
and book retailers nationwide in July of 2006. Head Press will
have a world premier of the title at this year's Comic Con
International, in San Diego, July 20th-23rd. For more

MUSEUM OF COMIC AND CARTOON ART PRESENTS:
TODD McFARLANE: A RETROSPECTIVE

UNLEASHING SPAWN UPON NEW YORK CITY

NEW YORK - On February 25th, 2006, the Museum of Comic and
Cartoon Art, in association with Reed Exhibitions and Todd
McFarlane Productions, unleashes a retrospective exhibit
showcasing the art and career of legendary artist Todd McFarlane.

Widely recognized as one of the most influential comic book
creators of the last two decades, McFarlane is best known as the
creator of Spawn. That title's hugely popular 1992 debut sold an
amazing 1.7 million copies - an unprecedented feat in independent
comics. A whirlwind of growth and expansion followed: more
comics, action figures, film and award-winning animation.

The multimedia exhibit will include original artwork and
artifacts from Todd's private collections and McFarlane Companies
archives, including original comic art pages stretching back to
his childhood and work for Marvel and DC on such titles as
Spider-Man and Coyote, all the way through the Image years. Also
on display will be original animation cels, character designs and
layouts, as well as toy designs and prototypes. The exhibit
officially opens with a gala fundraising reception to be held on
Saturday evening, February 25 and will run through May 1, 2006.

These gritty and groundbreaking works will also be available as a
limited online tour and an audio tour for the exhibit - conducted
by McFarlane himself - that can be downloaded for free at
www.spawn.com

OPENING RECEPTION AND PREVIEW NIGHT

The retrospective opens in conjunction with Todd's appearance as
a guest of honor at the New York Comic Con, February 24-26 at the
Jacob Javits Center. McFarlane will personally appear at the
opening reception for the exhibit, which begins at 8:00pm on
Saturday, February 25, at MoCCA's SoHo gallery. Tickets for the
opening may be purchased at MoCCA's NY Comic-Con booth (#114 --
conveniently located right next to McFarlane Toys booth #116).

McFarlane will also appear in person at a special private preview
on Friday, February 24. Although this event is only open to
professionals, exhibitors, and other trade attendees of NYCC,
Reed Exhibitions has generously set aside fifty (50) free tickets
for the general public, available for the first 50 fans who sign
up at MoCCA's NYCC booth (#114).

SPAWN #1 in 3D

This special New York Comic-Con limited-edition 3D version of
Spawn Issue #1 was created exclusively for the 2006 McFarlane
retrospective at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (MoCCA) in
New York.

Written and drawn by Todd, this 32-page book has a cover price of
$5.95 and includes red/blue 3D glasses! This special book will be
available as a Donor Premium (in recognition of donations of $6
or more) from MoCCA beginning Feb. 24 at their NY Comic-Con booth
(#114 - conveniently located right next to McFarlane Toys booth
#116) and at the MoCCA Gift Shop during the run of the McFarlane
retrospective exhibit, while supplies last. Proceeds benefit
MoCCA.
