FRANK MILLER HOSTS SIN CITY SCREENING FOR CBLDF

Frank Miller, the legendary creator of comics and film, will be
on hand to host a benefit screening of his hit film Sin City this
Sunday at the Act 1 & 2 Theater in Berkeley.  Occurring in
conjunction with his appearance at WonderCon, Miller will be on
hand to introduce the film, take questions, and reveal some
tidbits about the upcoming sequel.  This special screening will
benefit the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, comics' longest
running non-profit organization, chartered to defend the field's
First Amendment rights.  A reception will be held at Comic Relief
of Berkeley immediately following the screening.

An innovator in the comics world, Miller is best known for his
edgy stories of unlikely heroes facing down extraordinary odds,
including the classic graphic novels The Dark Knight Returns, Sin
City, and 300,which is currently in production as a major motion
picture. In chronicling the extremes of human behavior, Miller
has aroused controversy  for his unflinching depictions of
violence, making him one of comics' staunchest anti-censorship
voices and one of the Fund's strongest advocates.

"I support the Fund wholeheartedly,"Miller says.  "I love the
fact that it exists. The Fund is defending retailers against the
politicians and district attorneys who want to take away our
rights to make our own decisions about what we read, what we see,
and what we think.  There's always someone out there who's
looking to get elected that decides comics are a good target.
The Fund is picking up the banner and facing those people down,
and winning a lot of the really important fights.  It's my kind
of cause."

"I'm really looking forward to doing this screening for the
Fund,"Miller adds.  "I had a ball making the movie, and it's a
lot of fun letting the audience in on how we did it.  I think
this'll be a really fun night!"

Immediately following the screening, Comic Relief, Berkeley's
legendary comic bookstore will be hosting a reception where
Miller will be in attendance for a short question and answer
session.  The reception will be free to those presenting ticket
stubs from the event and card-carrying CBLDF members.  The Comic
Relief reception will begin at 9 PM and end at midnight.

Tickets for this special benefit screening will be $15, and are
available at the theater box office and from the Comic Book Legal
Defense Fund's table at WonderCon.  The screening will begin at
7PM.

The Act 1& 2 is located at 2128 Center Street (just east of
Shattuck),Berkeley, CA 94704.  Their phone number is
510.464.5980.

Comic Relief is located at 2026 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley, CA 94704.

"STRANGE"BEDFELLOWS
On Sunday afternoon of WonderCon from 2:45 to 3:30, Emily the
Strange creator Rob Reger and illustrator Buzz Parker will be
signing to support the CBLDF!

For more than thirteen years, pop culture cultists have revered
and adored the mysterious brooding thirteen-year-old girl named
Emily the Strange.  What started on the streets and the
nightclubs is now in high fashion magazines and comic books.
Emily has a long established street credibility, a cult like
status, and is an international icon.  Help her fight censorship
by coming to this special CBLDF signing on Sunday, February12 at
WonderCon!

A FRANK MILLER TREASURE TROVE AT WONDERCON
Frank Miller fans rejoice!  This weekend the CBLDF has got the
goods to celebrate his return to the Bay Area at WonderCon.  In
addition to the incredible Sunday night screening of Sin City,
the Fund will be hosting a signing on Friday from 4:30 to 5:30 at
its table (Booth 308).  Dark Horse will also host a CBLDF benefit
signing on Saturday from 3:00 to 4:00 (Booth 603).  Then on
Sunday at 12:30, Miller gives a spotlight interview to CBLDF
Executive Director Charles Brownstein, chronicling his life in
comics, and teasing about his exciting new projects (Room 2014).

If that isn't enough, the Fund is also bringing an incredible
collection of signed Miller books and comics.  For the first
time,we're releasing signed copies of original Daredevil comics,
donated from Miller's personal archive.  Every issue of Frank's
run is represented, but supplies are short, so act quickly.  When
they're gone, they're gone forever.  Also on hand will be signed
copies ofeach Sin City graphic novel, rare editions of Dark
Knight, Elektra Lives Again, and The Big Fat Kill.  Plus, the
first 100 people to sign up or renew their CBLDF membership at
the show will receive a copy of All Star Batman & Robin #1 -
Special Edition, signed by Miller & Jim Lee.

"We're delighted to be able to offer our supporters such an
incredible range of premiums," says CBLDF Executive Director
Charles Brownstein. "This is a crucial year for the Fund.  It
marks our 20th Anniversary and in that time the challenges we
face haven't abated.  Right now we're gearing up for trial to
defend Georgia retailer Gordon Lee, and so the money we raise at
WonderCon and the other Spring shows will be instrumental in
maintaining our winning defense of that case.  We're grateful for
the generous support of Frank Miller, Dark Horse and Comic-Con
International in helping us get this year off to a solid start.
With their help and the generosity of our supporters, we hope to
walk away from this show well armed for the critical battle
ahead."

History Meets Fantasy in The Epic Battle over 'Grunland'
This April Roman Imperial Soldiers, Japanese Samurais and a
secret society of Orc half-breeds battle for control of an
ancient, mystical force so evil its very existence must never be
recorded in writing. Narwain Publishing is proud to present the
fantasy epic graphic novel 'Grunland.'

For centuries, the Ar Ze people have lived in the Grunland
("green lands" in their native tongue). Half human and half orc,
these people are the protectors of a mystical mountain that is
inhabited by an ancient evil. So dark is this force, and so
powerful is the magic needed to contain it, that the Ar Ze dare
not even write of its existence. Instead they carry out their
duties through the tradition of spoken word and memorized
rituals.

But memory fades over time and with it, the mystical bonds of the
Grunland Mountain fade. Evil creatures manage to escape
captivity, visiting a campaign of terror and death on the
neighboring villages, using the Estgian whisper to raise an army
of the dead.

Even as the Ar Ze struggle to contain these evil forces, armies
from Rome and Japan invade their shores.
From the imagination of writer Jesus Cansino and artist Jesus
Barony...this is 'Grunland'!

'Grunland' is a 56-page graphic color novel shipping in April
from Narwain Publishing. It carries a retail price of $5.99 US ($
6.96 Canadian). Ask your retailer for it today!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BLUE BLUR!

For over a dozen years, one character has consistently captured
the imagination of fans everywhere.  Whether zipping through
outrageous landscapes in countless video games or starring in
death-defying adventures on TV and in comic books, few characters
from the past decade have had the staying power of Sonic the
Hedgehog.

Much of that success can be attributed to the long-running array
of specials, mini-series and of course, ongoing series that
Archie Comics has published featuring this now seminal pop
culture hero.

In March, Sonic fans can enjoy the same level of high-voltage
excitement and clever character development that they've come to
expect from Sonic and Archie.  They can also blow out the candles
as Sonic's birthday is celebrated in pulse-pounding fashion!

In "Birthday Bash" from SONIC THE HEDGEHOG #160, birthday-boy
Sonic has just been presented with the newly-refurbished,
original Freedom Fighter's base, first shown way back in SONIC
#1!  It doesn't take long for the festivities to become fearsome,
as Bark and Bean crash the party on Robotnik's orders!
Meanwhile, Rogue and Evil Sonic both have their eyes on pilfering
the Master Emerald.  It's a birthday "celebration" the Blue Blur
will never forget!

As if that weren't enough, the action doesn't stop over in
Sonic's sister title, SONIC X, based on the mega-hit Saturday
morning TV series.  Issue #7 features the rough-and-tumble tale,
"Take this Job and Shovel It." City sewer workers unwittingly
unleash ProtoShadow, and Topaz and Rogue are assigned to
investigate.  Cowboy decides to run an investigation of his own,
and deceives Sonic into coming along.  Before too long, they're
setting off defense systems and ducking enemy drones!

Don't miss your monthly heaping-helping of vitamin S(onic)!
Order these issues today!

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG #160, ships 3/8.  SCRIPT: Ian Flynn.  ART:
Tracy Yardly.

SONIC X #7, ships 3/22.  SCRIPT: Joe Edkin.  ART: David
Hutchison.

32-page, full color comics, $2.25 US.  Each features a sense-
shattering cover by fan-favorite "SPAZ!"

For more about Archie and his friends go to www.archiecomic.com

THIS MARCH, ARCHIE COMICS GIVES A NOD TO "FANDOM!"

One of the most exciting developments of the past 70 years has
been the rise of "fandom."  Whether it be literature ("The Lord
of the Rings"), iconic characters (Sherlock Holmes, who is
celebrated by "The Baker Street Irregulars"), TV shows ("Star
Trek"), rock stars - all forms of pop culture and entertainment
have their loyal followers.  This March, Archie Comics presents
four stories that speak to such fans.

The fun starts in ARCHIE #565, where Archie learns more than he
ever thought possible about "manga!"  That's because Ms. Grundy
has caught him reading a manga comic book in class, and assigns
him a 500-word composition on the subject.  Can America's
foremost comic book teen learn about his Eastern counterparts
before the deadline?  Fans of both Archie and manga are sure to
delight in the outcome!

ARCHIE & FRIENDS #99 offers stories for fans of both TV's action-
packed crime dramas and action figures!  In "Missing Puzzle
Pizzas," Archie becomes a pizza delivery boy, and his first order
is topped with sauce, extra cheese, bank robbers and F.B.I.
agents!  Then in the story, "Action Faction," Chuck designs some
new action figures and turns to an unlikely source of
inspiration: his classmates!

Next, BETTY & VERONICA #216 takes aim at Archie Comics fandom
itself, by offering another story that tweaks, if ever temporary,
the status of the eternal love triangle.  Forget the infinite
secret crisis wars in other publishers' comics-in "Had Enough,"
the whole Archieverse is turned on its head as Betty, Veronica
AND Archie all date other people!

Finally, JUGHEAD #172 brings back a beloved comic book hero from
yesteryear.  In  "Super Stomach," Captain Hero returns-sort of,
as Jughead imagines what it would be like to have a super-powered
stomach allowing him to eat 24-7!

ARCHIE #565, ships 3/29.

ARCHIE & FRIENDS #99, ships 3/8.

BETTY & VERONICA #216, ships 3/1.

JUGHEAD #172, ships 3/22.

CBLDFNews  Greg Thompson Named CBLDF Deputy Director At WonderCon

At this weekend's WonderCon convention in San Francisco, CA, the
Comic Book Legal Defense Fund has announced that creator Greg
Thompson has been named as the organization's new Deputy
Director.

A nine year veteran of the comics retailing world, Thompson comes
from four years with Bankston's Used Books/Austin Books, and most
recently five years running customer service and shipping for
Lone Star Comics' mycomicshop.com.  In 2004, Thompson established
himself in the creative realm as the writer of Hero Camp,
published by Image Comics, with artist Robbi Rodriguez and
colorist Russ Lowery.

CBLDF Executive Director Charles Brownstein says, "We're
fortunate to welcome Greg aboard at the CBLDF.  His experience in
both the retail and creative communities makes him a perfect fit
for the Fund, where our work safeguards the diversity of comics'
interests.  So far he's proved himself to be an intelligent,
industrious, and ambitious member of our team, and I know, as he
moves along, that he'll help us move into even bigger and better
places."

Thompson says, "I'm thrilled to be working with the Fund.  The
right to Free Speech is something near and dear to my heart, and
to be able to defend that within an industry I truly love is an
incredible opportunity.  To be able to wake up every morning and
go to a job you believe in is a wonderful feeling."

Greg Thompson will be representing the CBLDF at WonderCon.  Visit
the Fund at booth 308 and welcome him to the fold!

Incredible Hulk #92, First Planet Hulk Issue, Is Outta This
World... and Outta Stock!

Retailers and fans agree, PLANET HULK is a hit.  After just one
issue, this epic story destined to return Hulk to greatness, is
being hailed as an instant classic, a legendary storyline that
comic fans will be talking about for years to come!  Echoing
those feelings, the first issue of this epic - Incredible Hulk
#92 - has sold out at Diamond!

This is the biggest Hulk story to come about in years, and it
looks like it's exactly what the fans and retailers wanted!
Don't take our word for it, here's but a few examples of the
universal praise this story is earning:

"PLANET HULK is the first great 'Hulk Smash' epic of the 21st
Century!" - Carr D'Angelo, Earth-2 Comics

"Customers can't get enough of this tale, which brings mystery,
suspense and action back to Banner's alter-ego. It's like a Gamma
Bomb to our racks, the way stacks of this comic are being
decimated." - W. Alan, Silver Bullet Comics

"I've been looking forward to this since it was first announced.
Apparently, our customers have been, too, as it's already selling
well ahead of our projections!" - Chris Powell, GM of Lone Star
Comics / mycomicshop.com

"Believe the hype! I admit I was a hard sell myself but our
customers have spoken with authority and with only one day on the
racks, Planet Hulk has already outsold every other Hulk issue
from the last six months.  Thanks Marvel." - Robert Scott, Owner
Comickaze Comics Books and More

"The Hulk is finally good again!  Fan-HULKING-tastic!  This is
the new, fresh Hulk story I have been waiting on for years.  Must
Have!"- Hilary Goldstein, IGN

"HULK SMASH PUNY COMIC WORLD!  'Nuff said!" -Steven Olsen, Little
Shop of Comics

FANS NOTE, this is one series you don't want to miss!  There are
no plans at this time to go back to press on the first issue, and
this epic event will not be collected until the last issue has
been released, and that is a long time to wait!   So, be sure to
add this title to your monthly pull list.  Don't be left out!

Retailers, be sure your customers are aware of this epic
adventure by handing out the PLANET HULK postcards and see the
Diamond site for downloadable shelf-talkers that clearly identify
which issues are part of the PLANET HULK story-line.  Orders for
Incredible Hulk #93 - the second part of PLANET HULK - are due
soon.  Don't be caught short!  In other words...

"This is gonna be fun!" - Hulk, Incredible Hulk #92

There may still be copies available at the retail level.
