His website for his comic imprint is www.shandafantasyarts.net ] THE ORIGINAL FREE COMICS DAY That was usually when Mom took Junior to the local shoe store from the 1940's through the 1970's. Shoe store chains learned early on that the kids would sit still for a fitting and not fight the visit, if they got a free funnybook out of the visit. Store owners originally gave away recycled funnies, but it didn't take long for someone to get the idea to produce new ones. MARCH OF COMICS was the first of these, including some of the first DONALD DUCK work by Carl Barks. BUSTER BROWN shoes was a natural for the idea, since the company name came from a comic strip, and POLL PARROT and RED GOOSE were not far behind. An ARCHIE shoe store giveaway exists as well.
