Variant Next
Faster than a spreading virus, Marvel Zombies #1 3rd
Printing Variant has sold out at Diamond.  In an extremely rare
move, Marvel is going back to press with a fourth printing of
this issue featuring your favorite Marvel heroes.as decomposing

zombified tribute to Incredible Hulk #1.

Says Marvel's VP of Sales David Gabriel, "this series has been
such a hit with both fans and retailers that we've actually
pushed the date of the collected version well beyond what we
normally would do. This will give all these printings of the
comics plenty of time to sell. So if you are one of those who
waits for the trade, you'll be waiting a little longer on this
one! We couldn't be happier with the reaction this book has been
getting."

If you've missed this issue that started it all or for Arthur

Iron Man returns monthly with writers Daniel Knauf (of TV's
Carnivale) and Charlie Knauf, along with artist Patrick Zircher

they show Tony adapting to the newfound abilities gained as a
result of the Extremis enhancile.  Tony is now a biomechanical
weapon as opposed to just a man in a suit, enabling him to now
see through satellites and talk to machines.
But with near god-like abilities, how will Tony be able
to adjust, and how will his New Avengers allies react to his
changes?
Iron Man won't have long to settle in to his new status

MARVEL TO REBIRTH ONSLAUGHT WITH LOEB, LIEFELD

This November, Marvel Comics have tapped writer Jeph Loeb and
artist Rob Liefeld to revisit one of the publisher's biggest
crossovers, "Onslaught," to celebrate its tenth anniversary.

As a refresher for those unfamiliar with the crossover, Onslaught
was the name of a villain born from the combined psyches of the
X-Men's Professor X and his nemesis, Magneto. To defeat the
creature, many of Marvel's heroes - including the Avengers and
the Fantastic Four - seemingly sacrificed their lives. In
reality, the heroes were shunted to an alternate Earth created by
the uber-powerful Franklin Richards in an event dubbed "Heroes
Reborn".

Now, Loeb and Liefeld are teaming up for Onslaught Reborn, a
five-issue weekly mini-series that will see Liefeld revisiting
the Heroes Reborn universe he helped create.

"So the cat is out of the bag," Liefeld posted at his official
Website. "I can officially talk about my next project, a return
to the Onslaught/Heroes Reborn era with superstar writer Jeph
Loeb! I'm thrilled to be working with Jeph again for the first
time in nearly a decade, we met just prior to Heroes Reborn,
which for the uninitiated was a major event in 1996 where Jim Lee
and myself re-designed and re-launched Captain America, Avengers,
Fantastic Four and Iron Man. Despite the controversy of Marvel
outsourcing the production of their books for the first time, the
comics were a huge success with fans, sales triple-quadrupled and
I've been signing them at every show and appearance I've made
ever since."

"Jeph Loeb was a mere pup in comics at the time of the original
Heroes Reborn and now has grown into one of the top writers in
the comic industry. He's a 3000 pound gorilla, or as several
retailers have mentioned to me, he's the man with the Midas
Touch. With his track record of excellence, from Batman: Hush,
Supergirl and Superman/Batman, fans know that they are in for an
exciting ride whenever he's onboard as writer. Onslaught Reborn
features the Avengers, Captain America, Fantastic Four, Iron Man,
Thor, Namor, Enchantress, Loki and my own personal favorite,
Bucky!"

SUPERMAN RETURNS TO BECOME FIRST FEATURE FILM TO BE CONVERTED
INTO IMAX 3D

IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that
Superman Returns, directed by Bryan Singer, will become the
world's first live-action Hollywood feature to be converted from
2D to IMAX 3D. IMAX Corporation will use its proprietary 2D to 3D
conversion technology to convert approximately 20 minutes of the
film into An IMAX 3D Experience, the most immersive cinematic 3D
in the world.

"Releasing select sequences of Superman Returns in IMAX 3D marks
a groundbreaking moment in movies," said Dan Fellman, President
of Domestic Distribution at Warner Bros. Pictures. "This film is
going to give fans an opportunity to be immersed in a major live-
action motion picture like never before."

The epic action-adventure directed by Bryan Singer (X-Men, The
Usual Suspects), will be transformed into the unparalleled image
and sound quality of The IMAX Experience through IMAX DMR
(Digital Re-Mastering) technology. The film will be
simultaneously released to IMAX and conventional theatres on June
30, 2006. Warner Bros. Pictures will be the exclusive distributor
of the film to the growing IMAX theatre network worldwide.

"The test scenes that have been converted into IMAX 3D look,
sound and feel absolutely amazing," added Bryan Singer, Director
of Superman Returns. "The magic of IMAX 3D will envelop audiences
in this story, enabling them to feel the emotion, drama and
suspense in a completely new and unique way."

During select sequences of the film, a visual cue designed by
Singer will indicate when audiences should put on and remove
their IMAX 3D glasses.

"We are delighted to partner with pioneering visionaries Bryan
Singer and Warner Bros. Pictures to transform part of this highly
anticipated release into An IMAX 3D Experience," said IMAX Co-
Chairmen and Co-CEOs Richard L. Gelfond and Bradley J. Wechsler.
"Today's announcement is a culmination of a great film, a great
filmmaker, a great studio, and great technology - all working
together to produce the most powerful and immersive cinematic
experience available to moviegoers worldwide."

"Five out of the seven films in our 2006 line up now feature IMAX
3D," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed
Entertainment. "We are thrilled that moviegoers will be able to
experience Bryan Singer's unique and exhilarating vision. Through
the magic of IMAX 3D, they will feel as if they are actually
flying alongside the man of steel, weaving in and out of
Metropolis."

Following a mysterious absence of several years, the Man of Steel
comes back to Earth in the epic action-adventure Superman
Returns, a soaring new chapter in the saga of one of the world's
most beloved superheroes. While an old enemy plots to render him
powerless once and for all, Superman faces the heartbreaking
realization that the woman he loves, Lois Lane, has moved on with
her life. Or has she? Superman's bittersweet return challenges
him to bridge the distance between them while finding a place in
a society that has learned to survive without him. In an attempt
to protect the world he loves from cataclysmic destruction,
Superman embarks on an epic journey of redemption that takes him
from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents Superman Returns, directed by
Bryan Singer and starring Brandon Routh (Clark Kent/Superman),
Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth, James Marsden, Hugh Laurie, Sam
Huntington and Eva Marie Saint. Written by Dan Harris and Mike
Dougherty. Produced by Gilbert Adler, Jon Peters and Bryan
Singer; co-produced by Stephen Jones; and executive produced by
Chris Lee. Superman Returns is based on the DC Comic Book
Superman.

EC Archives Announced by Gemstone Publishing

Industry News, Scoop, Friday, March 31, 2006

Steve Geppi, President and Chief Executive Officer of Gemstone
Publishing and Cathy Gaines Mifsud, President of William M.
Gaines, Agent, Inc. and daughter of the late EC Comics impresario
Bill Gaines, announced The EC Archives, a new line of hard cover
books which will collect the classic EC horror, crime, science
fiction, and action-adventure titles.

Geppi and Mifsud met at Diamond International Galleries on
Tuesday, March 28, 2006, to sign the agreement which calls for
four volumes during its first year. Chronological presentations
of Tales From The Crypt, Two-Fisted Tales, Weird Science, and
Shock SuspenStories are among the first slated for publication
this fall.

Other titles in the line will follow. Each book will contain six
issues of the original comic magazines. These full-color hard
cover collections will include dust jackets and be comparable to
the DC Archives, Marvel Masterworks and Dark Horse Archives.

"I'm happy to take this important step with the Gaines family
toward not only preserving the historic legacy of EC Comics but
also to reaching new audiences with them," Geppi said. "The EC
Archives will be a great boost for current EC enthusiasts and for
those yet to discover the wonderful work of Bill Gaines, Harvey
Kurtzman, Al Feldstein, Wally Wood, Al Williamson and so many
other great creators."

"Our family is very enthusiastic about this project," said
Mifsud. "My father would be thrilled with the attention Gemstone
is paying to publishing EC Comics in these finely produced
archive editions."

"Since we first started publishing our various editions of the
great EC stories back in the 1970s, The EC Archives has been a
dream project," said Russ Cochran, Gemstone's West Plains,
Missouri-based Publisher for its EC line. "Now we're in a
position to make that dream a reality! Our previous efforts have
been geared to the loyal EC fans, but this effort will not only
include them but a wider audience as well."

In addition to spawning film, television and cartoon franchises
inspired by Tales From The Crypt, EC Comics have been counted
among the most influential comic books published in a number of
different genres. Contributors ranged from Ray Bradbury to Frank
Frazetta, and included some of the most significant writers and
illustrators ever to work in the medium.

Gemstone Publishing was founded by Geppi in 1993 as a conduit for
his efforts in preserving and promoting the history of the comics
medium. Gemstone acquired Cochran's company, Russ Cochran
Publisher, which began its first EC reprint project in 1973, and
has continued various related projects since then. The company
also publishes an acclaimed Disney comics line, including Uncle
Scrooge and Walt Disney's Comics & Stories, and an array of books
for collectors including The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide
and Hake's Price Guide To Character Toys.

ACTOR "Excelsior" Wristbands Reach 10,000

A Commitment To Our Roots, better known as the ACTOR Comic Fund,
in conjunction with legendary comics creator Stan Lee, have just
reached a major milestone in their "Excelsior" Wristband
fundraiser. And that milestone is the amazing 10,000 mark. The
first-ever federally chartered charitable organization dedicated
to helping Golden and Silver Age comic veterans in desperate
need, has just sold its 10,000th wristband, with all the proceeds
going directly to the charity.

The wristbands are still available through participating comics
shops, as well as at conventions featuring ACTOR or Comics
Guaranty (CGC) booths, for the suggested retail price of $3.

"Wow! It looks like Excelsior really is helping ACTOR move on to
greater glory - and I couldn't be happier. But why only 10,000?"
Lee asked in a press release. "C'mon, heroes, let's really show
how we feel about the guys who made comicdom what it is - let's
shoot for 100,000! I mean, how often do you get a chance to have
the best-dressed wrist in town?"

Celebrating the Nerd in All of Us
TwoMorrows Publishing enters the parody genre with June's Comic
Book Nerd one-shot magazine featured in April's issue of
Previews.. Spoofing their own publications, their competition,
and the comics industry in general, Comic Book Nerd takes a
light-hearted look at what makes fanboys and fangirls tick.

Creating a humorous alternate universe of the comics fan press,
Pete Von Sholly leaves no corner of the comics industry untouched
as he bring the funny, obscure, and outright weird aspects of
fandom to the forefront with both a deep appreciation and warped
respect.

"I wanted to make some statements about how I felt about [the
state of the industry]," said Von Sholly, "and also make some
loving statements about what I do love about comics."

Featuring parodies of such publications as Wizard, Alter Ego, The
Comics Journal, and even Previews, Comic Book Nerd tackles every
issue from variant covers to comic shop gossip to slabbed books
with a fun (if not almost too true) poke.

"I tried to mix things up so that Comic Book Nerd is not a rant
nor an attack, but rather a freewheeling, confetti-filled shotgun
blast at fanzines, journalism and comics creators and collectors.
Not aimed to kill but rather to make noise and entertain in a
satiric way," said Von Sholly.

Can Polybaged Trading Cards With A Foil Glow in the Dark Cover Be
Far Behind?

Most publishers these days have benefited from bumps in sales
associated with the release of variant incentive covers. As an
example of how this may work, a retailer gets one special cover
for every 10 or 20 regular issues he orders. The retailer then
can sell the variant cover at a higher price, or sell multiple
copies of the same issue to a single buyer, driving sales up for
all involved.

DC has been pleased with retailers responses to their incentive
covers; expect to see numerous multiple covers on various new
launches from DC by the Kubert brothers this coming year. The
company, though, has decided to take this one step further. In
the latest edition of Previews, DC is offering a new kind of
ordering incentive with the debut issue of Green Lantern Corps: a
DCU direct Green Lantern ring.

This is just the first in a wave of DCU direct incentives that
are going to be offered to coincide with the launch of new post-
Infinite Crisis title. For starters, retailers will be offered a
variety of Superman related merchandise to coincide with their
orders on the upcoming Superman big name creator launches coming
later this year.

Marvel is also looking into what promotional incentives they can
tie into their own new titles that are coinciding with their
upcoming movie releases - Ghost Rider, Spider-Man 3, and so on.

Lets hope that the big two publishers and retailers remember the
excesses (and subsequent bust) of the 90s and don't go overboard
with this sort of thing.

This Has A "I Own All 5 Copies Of X-Force #1 With The Trading
Cards (Hey I Was Only 15)" Factor Of Eight Out Of Ten

Taken Away Too Soon

It seems that rumours of the impending cancellation of SOLO
(hinted at by Bruce Timm and George Pratt among others in various
interviews) have been confirmed by artist Brendan Mccarthy on his
blog.

Brendan has stated that his issue of Solo (shipping in August)
will be the last issue published by DC:

I'm happy to say that, at the moment the final issue of SOLO,
number 12, will be my one. So let's go out with a nice dollop of
fractal-punk comics, wot? Overthrow the 'comics as film'
orthodoxy and herald the new aeon of 'comics as music'... Most
comics wanna be Hollywood... My comics wanna be The Beatles! - or
at least a bunch of different 'tracks' collected together into
something groovy, not merely just a short-story anthology.

Personally I was a big fan of Solo and discovered quite a few
artists for the first time spotlighted in this series. In fact,
some readers have suggested that Solo should be seen as a loss
leader that exposes readers to artists who have upcoming DC work
and consequently that will increase sales on their future
projects. Numerous readers have stated that they discovered Paul
Pope via his issue of Solo, which is interesting in light of the
fact that Paul Pope's Batman Year 100 mini series has seen its
first 2 issues sell out.

Hopefully DC will be able to bring the series back at some point
and at the very least publish the work in progress that was
planned for future issues. There is supposed to be a short story
drawn by Walter Simonson that was scripted by Frank Miller.

This Has A " I Was Really Looking Forward To The Brian
Steelfreeze Issue Dammit!" Factor Of Ten Out Of Ten

There Are No Coincidences

One of the upcoming artists that will be featured in an issue of
Solo prior to its cancellation is Damion Scott. Many readers have
questions why Damion was included and if he was indeed enough of
a known quantity to stand with the other artists showcased in the
series.

Common thinking would suggest that editor Mark Chiarello must
believe in Damion and wanted to give him more exposure. Recent
rumours coming out of Wizard World LA suggest that Marvel is
interested in giving Damion some high profile work and maybe even
an exclusive contract. The powers that be at DC then decided to
keep Damion busy by having Chiarello give him an issue of Solo
(48 pages of story) to put together, thus preventing any of the
Marvel projects moving ahead as planned.

If this is indeed accurate, then DC has yet another reason to
keep Solo from being cancelled - sticking it to Marvel!

This Has A "I'm Really Going To Miss This Book" Factor Of Six Out
Of Ten
