Victoria's (not so) Secret Service
Alias Comics series, Victoria's Secret Service, sold-out!
April 9, 2006 (San Diego, CA) - Alias Comics and Blue Water
Productions released the debut issue of their newest
collaborative-series, VICTORIA'S SECRET SERVICE, in March 2006,
and both are excited to report that the issue has already
completely sold-out from the distributor after only weeks on the
shelves!
From the fan-favorite creative team of Nadir Balan and Terrance
Griep (Judo Girl), VICTORIA'S SECRET SERVICE follows the
adventures of a team of girls - Scarlet, Raven, Lark, and Brooke
- who serve in protection of the Queen of England in a
clandestine operation established in the 19th century, and was
named one of Wizard Magazine's Top 11 Indy Books to Watch!
"The buzz around this book has been phenomenal," says creator,
and Blue Water Productions' Managing Editor, Darren G. Davis.
"Numbers from our special 75-cent preview issue were incredibly
high, and this latest sell-out just proves that readers are
running for the shops for their chance to find one. It's the
greatest compliment any comic creator could be given!"

Indeed with the success of VICTORIA'S SECRET SERVICE, Davis and
Blue Water Productions have already optioned the rights for film
and toy franchises.

With issue one already sold-out, readers are encouraged to place
their orders now for VICTORIA'S SERCRET SERVICE #2.
VICTORIA'S SECRET SERVICE #2
Written by Terrance Griep, with artwork by Nadir Balan
Scarlet (Victoria Secret Service's newest member) takes on her
first mission--to guard Great Britain's least-favorite royal, the
prodigal Prince Garson, from a terrorist attack. Disguised as a
cocktail waitress, the team must secretly prevent the flirty,
teenaged prince from being kidnapped during a masquerade. The
camouflaged international terrorists at work the girls can
handle--it's teaming up that's a problem! Brooke, Lark, and Raven
distrust their newest member--not because she's a cat burglar
working a plea bargain, but because she's an American! Brought to
you by writer Terrance Griep and artist Nadir Balan, the creative
team of Alias' sellout smash, Judo Girl!
-- 24-pages, full-color monthly series -- $3.50 (order code:
APR062859)

VICTORIA'S SECRET SERVICE #2 is available for ordering now in the
April 2006 issue of Diamond Comics' PREVIEWS catalog for a June
2006 release!

"It's a solid start," said Davis. "It's the kind of thing that
really energizes a creative team and makes us work that much
harder to bring our A-game to every issue, and we hope that
readers will continue to show support for VICTORIA'S SECRET
SERVICE, as well as Blue Water and Alias Comics in general."

Alias Comics titles, be sure you visit your local comic shop, and

Bizarre Comic Book Based On True Life Elderly Serial Killers
Released

King Tractor Press is releasing the first issue of Family Bones
in May 2006. The first in an on-going series based on the
Copeland murders.
(PRWEB) April 10, 2006 -- King Tractor Press announced today
that the first issue of their series Family Bones will be
released in May 2006. In the first chapter of Family Bones,
rebellious teen Sean is shuttled from one family member to the
next, finally landing at the farm owned by his elderly Aunt and
Uncle. There, the city boy must quickly adapt to the rigors of
farm life. Sean must also adjust to the emotional and physical
abuse that Uncle Ray visits upon his wife and nephew. Family
Bones is based on a true story about teenage angst, family
secrets, and murder on a small Midwestern farm.

Based on actual events, it's the story of the elderly serial
killers Ray and Faye Copeland as seen through the eyes of their
unwitting nephew who stays with them one summer.

"I know this is going to be a series with a bit of controversy,"
the writer Shawn Granger said. "It's more hard edge than
anything I've written before, but not without its lighter sides.
Family Bones is unique in its mix of horror, romance, and
coming-of-age genres. I really think readers will be shocked to
find out that it's not all blood and gore, there are more layers
to the story" Mr. Granger told a fan. "But it's definitely not a
story for kids. I definitely didn't kiddy-coat the harsh
realities either."

Orlando Baez, the artist on Family Bones Chapter 1 is very
comfortable with dark stories. He's best known for his work in
horror comics. Orlando said "'Family Bones' is a dark & gritty
story. It's interesting and real and because of that I want to
pencil and feed the story in a rough, scratchy style."

He is joined by the inker Kenneth Landgraf, whose resume
includes many A-List comic book titles, including Wolverine,
Superman, Hawkgirl, Nightwing, and Conan from both DC and Marvel
studios.

Family Bones #1 will be available in May for a $3.50 cover
price. You may preorder the book at our website at
www.kingtractorfilms.com and currently distributed through
www.dimestoreproductions.com. King Tractor Press encourages
readers to ask their local retailers for a copy.

BIG BANG COMICS TO SELF-PUBLISH ALL-NEW BIMONTHLY SERIES!

SEE MAY PREVIEWS FOR SOLICITATION.

"It's true! Big Bang has left Image Comics and will be self-
publishing the new issues under the name Big Bang Comics,"
confirmed BB editor Gary Carlson. "We'll be right in front of the
independent publishers section of Diamond's Previews, somewhere
between Archie and Bongo Comics.

"We've been publishing two specials a year under various titles
and even our regular fans haven't been sure what was and wasn't
Big Bang product. This way there will be no confusion."

"Erik Larsen and Jim Valentino are two of Big Bang's biggest
friends and fans and we appreciate all they've done for us,"
added Big Bang co-creator Chris Ecker. "Unfortunately, the books
have been breaking even financially or losing money for Image for
a long time."

This won't be the end of Big Bang at Image, however. Erik Larsen
is considering a color reprint of the 100+ page 3-part
"Timebomber" story line which guest starred the Savage Dragon in
issues 12, 14 and 18 of BB.

Big Bang Presents #1 features tributes to two of comic's greatest
creators, Will Eisner and Jack Cole. Protoplasman is a
combination of all eras of Jack Cole's work, from the Claw to
Plastic Man through his pre-code horror and crime stories. "It's
kind of a hard-boiled humorous action series," offered writer
Carlson, "This first story is very much an homage to Cole's
Plastic Man. Artist Mort Todd has done a wonderful job!
Protoplasman will be a regular visitor in the pages of Big Bang
Presents."

Big Bang's flagship character the Knight Watchman gets the Will
Eisner treatment in '"The Camera of Doom," also written by Gary
Carlson, who considers it one of the best Big Bang comics ever
produced. "From day one I've wanted to mix & match the great
artists' styles with different iconic characters. I still want to
see a Bob Kane Ultiman story, a Simon & Kirby Knight Watchman.
This story is our guess as to what a Will Eisner Batman story
might have been like. Jeff Austin did a wonderful job translating
my layouts into finished art."

Another character scheduled to make her Big Bang debut in BB
Presents #1 is Miss Firecracker. Long time Big Bang and Bong
artist Mike Worley is slaving over this good girl strip in the
Bill Ward tradition.

Big Bang Presents #1 featuring Protoplasman and the Knight
Watchman is a 32 page b&w book for $2.95. If all goes well, we're
hoping to be in color by the third issue.

French Artist Phil Briones To Provide Art For White Tiger

Joining famed young adult fantasy author Tamora Pierce, French
artist extraordinaire Phil Briones has signed on to do pencils
and inks for the upcoming White Tiger series.

"I grew up with Marvel characters," says Phil Briones.
"When Marvel offered me the opportunity to work on the new female
White Tiger I was immediately thrilled!"

"Then learning that Tamora Pierce was going to write it made it
simply perfect," added Briones.  "I mean the two of us having
already been separately working on stories with strong female
fantasy characters was clearly a sign that we were destined to be
working together. And for a Frenchman, you can't imagine how
thrilling and engaging it is to be working for the House of
Ideas."

Born in Dijon, France, Briones started his career as an
animator for Walt Disney Feature Animation.  He has also been the
artist on several French comic series including La Geste des
Chevaliers-Dragons, Kookaburra Universe, and Les Seigneurs
d'Agartha.

Briones received his degree from the Gobelins School,
which happens to be the same school House of M penciler Olivier
Coipel attended.

The White Tiger series will focus on the new character
introduced in Brian Michael Bendis's Daredevil run.  With scripts
by best-selling children's author Tamora Pierce, Briones is ready
to bring his energetic pencils to the new female White Tiger.

Storm's Wedding Dress Unveiled In TV Guide

Storm's dress for her upcoming wedding to the Black
Panther in this July's Black Panther #18 was finally unveiled in
the April 17th issue of TV Guide on sale now.

The design of the dress for the upcoming Black
Panther/Storm wedding was created by none-other-than Shawn
Dudley, the Emmy-Award Winning Costume Designer for TV's Guiding
Light.

"I was a little shocked when I first saw the "comic book" version
of our dress because I'm a control freak," said Dudley.  "I had
to really wrap my head around the 'updates' and changes to our
original rendering.  But it was all good and I really thought the
evolution from original research to our classic rendering than on
to the final version was a cool process."

Executive producer of Guiding Light, Ellen Wheeler, was also
happy to see the crossover between soaps and comics.  "Our soap
world and the comics world are a great fit but I'm especially
thrilled that our wonderful costume design team has had this
opportunity to show their talents, that we see every day here, in
a new and cool way."

The lead-up to the Marvel wedding of the decade continues in the
page of Storm and Black Panther and make sure to be in attendance
when the two iconic comic characters tie the knot in Black
Panther #18.  Unfortunately for Ororo and T'Challa, a Civil War
is brewing among their wedding guests.

24 HOUR COMICS DAY 2006 SIGNING UP EVENT LOCATIONS
 April 10, 2006

The coordinators of 24 Hour Comics Day, the international
festival of comics creation, are now signing up comics shops,
schools, museums, and other businesses and organizations to host
events. This year, the Day falls on Saturday, October 7th.

24 Hour Comics Day is a day set aside for cartoonists to take the
24 Hour Comics challenge, trying to create a 24 page comic book
in 24 consecutive hours. Some take the challenge alone in their
home, but most gather at public events, working side by side with
other cartoonists, sharing snacks and camaraderie. "Last year, we
had over 800 cartoonists working at around 70 event sites in 7
different countries, creating over 10,000 pages of comics" says
Nat Gertler, founder of 24 Hour Comics Day. "Early signs are that
this year will be even bigger. We've already heard from people
who want to sign up sites in locations that have never had 24
Hour Comics Day events before."

For details on what is required to host an official 24 Hour
Comics Day event and instructions on applying, head over to
www.24HourComics.com/2006/storefaq.html

People interested in learning more about 24 Hour Comics Day and
Scott McCloud's 24 hour comics challenge are urged to visit
www.24HourComics.com

24 Hour Comics Day is coordinated by About Comics, publisher of a
line of 24 hour comics-themed books, including current Eisner
Award nominee 24 Hour Comics Day Highlights 2005.

RIP John Blackburn

A press release from Henry R. Kujawa announces the sudden death
of cartoonist John Blackburn:

John Blackburn, creator of the bisexual superman / voodoo love-
god Coley Cochran, passed away suddenly on Friday following a
brief illness. His writing style was reminiscent of Don McGregor
with his use of in-depth characterization, while his unique art
style brought to mind that of original Wonder Woman artist, Harry
G. Peter. Coley appeared in 3 self-published books, a number of
mini-series and a graphic novel from Eros Comix, and a separate
series of short stories in Leyland Publications' MEATMEN series.

I'm really shocked & saddened to hear the news that John
Blackburn is gone. I've been a fan of his comic-book work ever
since RETURN TO VOODOO ISLAND came out, and we'd written back and
forth quite a few times. I was able to get ahold of the 3
limited-edition Coley books he published himself, and had
spreading the word about the series as best I could online.

I think John did a lot to inspire the turn of my own series,
STORMBOY. I hadn't heard from him for the last few years, and
often wondered if he was okay. I'd been looking forward to his
doing a follow-up to the story in DAGGER OF BLOOD. I had Coley
make a one-panel came in one of my own stories, and had hoped to
someday to a "crossover" between our 2 series. It's also been a
dream of mine to someday reprint the Coley stories in a set of
books which would cover the 3 limited-edition books and a
collection of all the stories that appeared in MEATMEN. I wonder
if this will ever happen now?

John's writing was really special. He said things in his stories
that few ever seem to have the courage to talk about. While is
spots I thought he could have used a little help polishing
dialogue or story structure, for the most part I often thought he
was way ahead of MOST writers in the field these days. Coley was
the only comics series I re-read SEVERAL times from beginning to
end over the last 10 years. I wish there could have been more.

CBG posts complete comics sales charts

Paul! Marc-Oliver! Come quick! John Jackson Miller, Krause's
patron saint of number crunching, has posted complete sales
charts based on Diamond's lists, going back to 1998.

Every month for the last few years, Diamond Comic Distributors,
the leading distributor to comics shops in North America and
Great Britain, has published a Top 300 list ranking new comic
books by the number of retailer orders it has received. Diamond
does not publish its exact figures, but rather a number for each
issue indicating how that issue's sales compare to that month's
Batman, Diamond's benchmark title.

But that information is enough to unlock an estimate for the
preorders for every comic book on Diamond's list - if you've got
some of the actual orders that Diamond placed with publishers
that month to refer to. Since 1996, Comics & Games Retailer, a
sister publication to CBG, has led the field in obtaining actual
orders for a large fraction of titles appearing on Diamond's
monthly list, and then applying them to the list to estimating
the rest of the Diamond titles' orders from them.

We're not sure how these figures compare to ICV2's -- PAUL! MARC-
OLIVER! -- but they are certainly an interesting piece of data
and Jackson is to be commended for his diligence in getting it
out there.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED UPDATE

"Far From Home," an episode of Justice League Unlimited guest-
starring the Legion of Super-Heroes, will have its Cartoon
Network premiere on Saturday at 10:30 p.m.

The episode was written by Paul Dini from a story by Dwayne
McDuffie. It was directed by Dan Riba.

"Supergirl, Green Arrow and Green Lantern go on an adventure
1,000 years in the future and meet the Legion of Super-Heroes --
an adventure from which history says she will not return,"
McDuffie told The Continuum.

"Paul Dini is back with a terrific script featuring high
adventure, romance and definitive proof that Bouncing Boy is much
cooler than you thiink. Supergirl's last stand against the
combined power of Legion is one of my favorite sequences from the
series so far."

as Brainiac 5, Joanne Whaley as Emerald Empress and Tomos Arana
as Tharok.

A "Product Update" listing on Diamond's retailer website has

#12.

Solicited as 48 pages and $3.99, the title will now ship as 32
pages at $2.99, and there will be an Ultimates 2 #13 that will be
