Witchblade Reaches #100 Milestone

Top Cow Flagship title celebrates mega-birthday in July

April 18, 2006
For additional information:
Jim McLauchlin, 310-477-8882

You've definitely come a long way, baby.

Top Cow Productions' Witchblade reaches an important milestone
this summer, as the long-running and much-beloved title hits #100
in July. Ongoing writer Ron Marz will bridge the gap between the
old and new, scribing a story to be drawn, primarily, by two
artists. Outgoing artist Mike Choi, who has been with the book
since #80, passes the torch to new artist Adriana Melo (Star
Wars: Empire, Birds of Prey). In addition, a bevy of guest
artists including Marc Silvestri (Hunter-Killer), Billy Tan (X-
Men), Randy Green (New X-Men), and Christian Gossett (The Red
Star) will also contribute pages.

In addition to guest artists galore, Marz promises major events
that will shake the title's status quo. "The recent 10th
Anniversary issue in Witchblade #92 was really about the
Witchblade's past, finally revealing where it came from and
giving a glimpse of the past bearers," Marz said. "Issue #100 is
very much about looking forward, about the future of the
Witchblade and the future of Sara Pezzini. By the time the
readers get to the last page of #100, we'll have paid off plot
threads that have been building since I first took over the book,
and laid the groundwork for what's to come in the next year. And
I guarantee the next year is going to be the most turbulent year
this book has ever had."

For hints of what may be coming down the pike, look no further
than Image Comics Future Shock, the Free Comic Book Day offering
hitting streets on Free Comic Book Day, May 6.

Witchblade #100 will clock in at 48 pages, with a $4.99 cover
price. Four regular covers will be available, with art from Marc
Silvestri, Michael Turner, Mike Choi, and an "Anime" version
based on the original Witchblade anime developed by Gonzo
Animation now showing on Japanese TV. A fifth incentive cover
from Dawn artist Joseph Michael Linsner will also be available.

"One hundred has that special ring to it of something that
matters, doesn't it?" asked Top Cow CEO Marc Silvestri. "Like
the 100th episode of a favorite TV show or a beloved relative
reaching that 100th birthday. Big chunks of time are measured by
centuries tied up in neat 100-year bundles. Notable moments in
our history are often referenced by what 100-year span those
moments occurred in. One hundred will always have some meaning,
some history, some importance behind it.

"For us over at Top Cow, celebrating 100 issues of our iconic
character means we've accomplished longevity, that despite the
odds we're still here and still doing what we love. For the
character herself, 100 means a depth and substance and an almost
tangible feeling of being real that only time can bring.

"For the reader, 100 issues means a long relationship with a
character they've grown to love and understand and have a real
empathy for. The best of those characters have a strange and
wonderful way of returning that same love, understanding and
empathy to the reader. And the enduring quality of Sara and the
Witchblade, is the ability to do just that. This enduring quality
is thanks to all the talented writers and artists who've given
her life, and all the fans who've followed her adventures, and
suffered in her pains, and relished in her joys. That is why
Witchblade is turning 100. And that is why she's special.

"Thank you all!"

Freshmen Return for More Schooling

Seth Green and Hugh Sterbakov reunite with Top Cow Productions
for "Freshmen II"

April 20, 2006

The grades are in, and they passed with flying colors. So the
Freshmen will be back for the next school year!

Top Cow Productions is reuniting with co-creators Seth Green and
Hugh Sterbakov for a new Freshmen comic series in late 2006. The
announcement comes hot on the heels of the April 12 release of
the Freshmen paperback, collecting all six issues of the
uproarious college-meets-superpowers mini-series. A huge
groundswell of fan support for the first series has led to the
second.

"I've been blown away by the critical response to Freshmen, and I
absolutely can't wait to get started on the sequel," said writer
Hugh Sterbakov. "Our kids are going to face a dark new nemesis
and a gigantic romantic conflict that will cause bitter enemies
within the group. Mark my words: Freshmen II will be our Empire
Strikes Back!"

Co-creator and Buffy and Austin Powers actor Seth Green agreed.
"We are very excited to continue Freshmen with Top Cow," Green
said. "After the great response to the first mini-series, we've
been looking forward to telling another chapter of this story.
And believe me-you have no idea what's coming. It's awesome!"

The Freshmen vol. 1 paperback is currently on-sale, and just
launched with a major release party and signing featuring Green
and Sterbakov at Coliseum of Comics, a major Florida retail
chain. "After introducing hundreds of new fans to Freshmen at our
'Graduation Party," we're anxiously awaiting a new chapter in
this quirky and fun series!" said Coliseum owner Phil Boyle.
"Hugh and Seth have delivered something different in a superhero
team and that's a tough thing to do on a crowded comic shelf."

TIMETRIPPER
READ THE BOOKS! DOWNLOAD THE SONG!
To promote today's release of his enthralling new time
transcending series, TimeTripper, author Stefan Petrucha asked
musician Jazan Wild to compose a song for it. The result, WAKE UP
TO REALITY (TIMETRIPPER) is now available as a free download at
www.petrucha.com. The single has already appeared on the
syndicated radio show, Headbanger's Basement
(http://www.angelfire.com/ultra/headbangersbasement).
The two first connected when Jazan approached Stefan to script
his critically acclaimed comic Carnival of Souls, now out from
Markosia Enterprises (www.markosia.com). Jazan had already
written and recorded an entire CD for that comic. "Turnabout,"
Petrucha said, "Seemed fair play. So I asked, and I'm glad I
did."
For more on Jazan Wild, check out his site, www.jazanwild.com. As
for TimeTripper, Gregory (WICKED) Maguire called the series
"Quirkoid and fantasmagothic!" YA favorite Christopher Golden
called it "A great ride, a clever tale full of wit and charm."
Amanda Dotty in the Kansas City star said, "The writing is
amazing!"
Novelist Stefan Petrucha, known internationally for his work on
Topp's X-FILES comic, loosely based TIMETRIPPER on his SQUALOR
comic for First Publishing. He can be contacted for interviews
via timetripperATpetrucha.com More on him at www.petrucha.com.

THE LONE AND LEVEL SANDS WINS THE DAY!
Original Caption Box edition takes the Howard E. Day Memorial
Prize

Fort Lee, NJ -- Apr 20, 2006 -- Caption Box is proud to announce
that THE LONE AND LEVEL SANDS by A. David Lewis and Marvin Perry
Mann has won the Howard E. Day Memorial Prize for best small
press and alternative comic in the business. Caption Box's
original black-and-white edition of the book that takes a unique
perspective in the retelling of the Book of Exodus has recently
been re-released in a full-color edition by Archaia Studios
Press.

"Wow!" said Dave Lewis, writer of THE LONE AND LEVEL SANDS. "When
I first heard the book was short-listed for the Day Prize, I was
thrilled. Then when Dave Sim called me to let me know we won---
well in advance of the official announcement on May 13---I said I
didn't know if I could keep quiet about it very long, I was so
excited. I had to ask him, 'Is it okay for us to go ahead and
alert the media?' Dave laughed and said, 'Yes, go right ahead.'"

Mann, illustrator of THE LONE AND LEVEL SANDS, said, "While we
were working on the book, we both knew we had something special
on our hands, but you really don't know how it will be received
until it's out there for all to see and read. It's very rewarding
to be recognized by such an honor as the Day Prize."

The Day Prize awards ceremony will be held May 13 at the annual
Small Press and Alternative Comics Expo (SPACE) in Columbus, OH.
Named for late Canadian comic book artist Howard Eugene Day and
selected by his protege Dave Sim (CEREBUS), the Day Prize draws
from a pool of self-published and small press comics submitted at
SPACE. More information on the Day Prize can be found at
http://backporchcomics.com/space.htm

THE LONE AND LEVEL SANDS presents a retelling of the Book of
Exodus through the eyes of Pharaoh Ramses II, the man who is
perhaps either its greatest leader or its worst villain: a man
trying to rule wisely, love his family well, and deal justly in
the face of a divine wrath. Laced with subtle messages for our
time and exhaustively researched, Lewis and Mann drew from the
Bible---both Old Testament and New Testament---the Qur'an,
Egyptian mythology, anthropology, archeology, and even modern pop
presentations of the story of Pharaoh and Moses in preparing
their version. THE LONE AND LEVEL SANDS is recommended for Young
Adults and up.

The full-color edition published by ASP (ISBN: 1-932386-12-2,
$17.95, 160-page hardcover graphic novel, full color) is
available in finer comic book shops and bookstores everywhere.

ZOOM SUIT SPLITS THE COUNTRY DOWN THE MIDDLE

Award-Winning Short Film to Appear in Chicago and Oklahoma

April 21, 2006, Palm Beach, FL - John Taddeo's award-winning
animated short film, Zoom Suit, has been selected to screen at
two more major film festivals, the Chicago Really Short Film Fest
in Chicago, Illinois on April 22 and the Dead Center Film
Festival in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on June 7-11.

"With the comic version of Zoom Suit set to hit stores on
Wednesday, it's awesome that the film is still being accepted
into film fests at the rate it is," said Zoom Suit creator, John
Taddeo. "This has been an exhausting process, but worth every
second."

Held at the Abbey Pub on W. Grace St. in Chicago, the Chicago
Really Short Film Fest is a night of short films, live
performance art and live music. No film at the festival is longer
than 15 minutes and all range from narrative, to animation, to
music video, to documentary.

The Dead Center Film Festival, named that because of Oklahoma
City's geographic location within the United States, was founded
in 2001 with a mission of promoting the independent film arts.
Designed to inspire growth in the local film industry and
energize visiting film professionals, the Dead Center Film
Festival encourages the film arts through screenings,
discussions, competition, special events, panels and focused
programming. The festival projects attendance of over 3500 film
enthusiasts viewing over 100 films at eight different locations
throughout downtown Oklahoma City.

Zoom Suit #1, the premiere issue of the four issue limited
series, is slated to hit comic shops April 26th. The series is
officially sold out at the publisher and will be allocated to
comic shops.
