SUBMISSIONS
-----------
To submit an article, review, column, etc. to our Emag, simply
Email it to the editor at: ComicBkNet@aol.com   You must include
your REAL name and a valid Email address in order to be published
in this Emag. Sorry, we do not accept anonymous columns.  The
weekly deadline is 7:00 PM Eastern Time on Thursday - NO
EXCEPTIONS!  Late submissions are held over for the following
week. Final edit is reserved by the editor, not the submitter!

Reviews of mainstream books are welcome and we encourage reviews
of indies and self published material as we feel that material
deserves more exposure to the general public.  If you write
intelligent, coherent, and timely reviews of any comic book it
will almost always be printed, so give us a shot.

Commentary on the state of the industry, and personal
observations and reflections related to comics are *most* likely
to be included in our publication.

PLEASE, no material on gaming, non-comic derived media, role
playing, collectible card games, Anime or other hobbies or
collectibles other than comic books. That also includes plugs for
web comics and web pages UNLESS they are concerned with print
comic books.  We do not promote web comics per se, only the
printed media.

SEND US YOUR WORK
-----------------
We also accept product for review purposes.  Advanced copies of
comic books will not be returned but any comic books sent to us
*will* be reviewed in the ComicBook Net Emag in the column MY
VIEW. Send material to be reviewed to:

David L. LeBlanc
84 Heather Circle
Jefferson, MA  01522-1419

Material is generally reviewed in the order received and be
advised that we work a few weeks in advance so your review may
not be in the magazine immediately.  Advanced copies are
therefore encouraged so the review will occur prior to your
product hitting the stores.

Hello, welcome to another thrill-packed episode in the amazing
adventures of CBEM. And what an issue it will be. After all, if
you look close you will see it is another very special divisible
by 25 issue number! That calls for four variant covers, with a
dealer incentive for a fifth variant. And of course we have each
as a lithograph you can buy separately either plain or with the
artist' autograph. How else would you celebrate such a landmark
issue?  Surely you wouldn't give extra value for the dollar? That
would only benefit the reader! No we must capitalize on the
collector mentality and suck every last dollar out of them before
they spend it on some other product. We are only giving them what
they want.

Sigh!  Whatever happened to just making decent, entertaining
comics that people bought because they couldn't wait to READ them?
Oh, I know there are plenty of comics like that out there. I just
get this way thumbing through Previews and seeing ads for
multiple variant covers and the like.

If you want to read some more opinion about what is wrong with
the the industry see the interview by Rich Vasseur with Bob
Layton in this issue. If you want to read what is right get some
of these new comics.

BOOM! STUDIOS
 Jeremiah Harm #3, $3.99
 Talent #1 (Of 4), $3.99

DC COMICS
 52 Week #2, $2.50
All Star Batman And Robin The Boy Wonder #4 (resolicited), $2.99
 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
       \----------------------Pick of the Week!

 Superman Batman #25 (resolicited), $2.99

Another hectic week coming up, a trip to Buffalo (long drive from
central Massachusetts.) Then from there to Cape Cod (even longer,
MUCH longer) for an golf tournament with customers. Thankfully I
get a 4-day weekend for Memorial Day.  Hope your week is not
stressful.

Subject: Little Lulu writer Arnold Drake on podcast
Date: Tue, 16 May 2006 08:41:20 -0400

Please Post and Forward to appropriate chat rooms, web pages and
e-lists! This is live-streamed on the internet and podcast
afterward.

1. My last comics radio show, of May 10 from 3:30 to 6:00 AM, was
with Arnold Drake and it's now available for podcast.  During his
50 year comics writing career he created Deadman, Stanley and his
Monster and the Doom Patrol, including Beast Boy, for DC Comics
plus wrote many of the origins of the X-Men for Marvel.  He
followed John Stanley on Little Lulu and wrote many other comics,
from Batman to Bob Hope.  He was also one of the two recipients
of the first Bill Finger Award for comics writing excellence and
tried to organize comic book writers into a union back in the
'60s.  We had a lot of comics history to talk about and we
discussed things like royalties and creator credits as well.  For
the last half hour, we were joined by Prof. Bill Foster and
talked about America's first graphic novel (to be back in print
this year), "It Rhymes with Lust," which Arnold wrote in about
1949 with Matt Baker as artist.  To hear the podcast, follow the
link from http://www.comicbookradioshow.com/ra1.html.

2. The dvd version of 'Nuff Said! with exclusive interviews with
Mike Kaluta, Mike Oeming, Sean Chen & Louis Small, Jr. is in this
month's "Previews" from Diamond Distribution, pg 543, item
number MAY064499.  A free one-minute sample of the dvd is posted
on the web site in several formats so you can see it whether you
have dial-up, a mac or a pc.  It has a little of each artist
interview:http://www.comicbookradioshow.com/dvd1samples.html.
Midtown Comics, Cosmic Comics, Jim Hanley's Universe and The Time
Machine (they'll be playing the DVD on Wednesday May 17th) in New
York City, Mile High Comics Online Store, and 30th Century Comics
in London, England already have copies for sale.

3. Reviews of my dvd are starting to pop up on the net.  Let me
know if you've reviewed it and I'll link to you on the
comicbookradioshow.com web page.  What I usually hear is "I want
more, when's the next one coming out?" which people only say
about things they like.  Yes, we DO have more material ready to
go for another dvd.
The guys at Secret Identity say, "... a great, great
introduction to comic shows and creator interviews."
Chuck Rozanski owner of Mile High Comics referred to me as an
uberfan and wrote: "a fantastic new DVD...especially for
dedicated comics fans."

4. Sam Vera interviewed me for an hour and posted the interview
on the Crazee Comics web site:
http://www.catchdacraze.com/episode16.html.  I talk as much about
the history of comics fandom and fanzines as I do about myself
and my work.

5. The proposed WBAI-FM program schedule change has been delayed
and the changes won't be the same as what's in the proposal.
Whether Susan Brown's show will stay the same, be canceled or
turn into 'Nuff Said! officially is still undecided.

6. Vaguely related is an announcement that the 30th anniversary
of the Legion apa Interlac is this June.   I've been a member the
entire time.  For more info, go to
http://members.aol.com/interlac or e-mail Kevin McConnell
at mranziety@yahoo.com.

7. See you at Motor City Con this weekend!  Come by the Evolution
Comics table!

      Please spread the word!  Thanks!

Fannishly,

This week you'll have to be as fast as the FLASH or have SUPER
VISION to catch these hidden images in some of your favorite
films!

----------------------------

HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES?

Hidden items in software, video games, and even graphic novels
are called "Easter Eggs," but there's no way these could be taken
for eggs. In HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN, pat
attention to the scene where Hagrid takes his class out to meet
Buckbeak, a Hyppogriff.  He feeds the animal, and then prepares
to introduce Harry to the winged beast. There's a long shot with
the Hyppo, Hagrid, Harry and the students, from left to right.
That's when the Hyppogriff deposits three "road apples" on the
pasture with audible thunks.

Introduced in 1976, the Eagles are the comics industry's longest
established awards. Acknowledged as the pre-eminent international
prizes, they have been featured on the covers of leading US and
UK titles across the last 28 years ranging from Uncanny X-Men and
Swamp Thing to MAD and 2000 AD.

Unique in the comics industry in that they reflect both the
professional and the reader's choice, the Eagle Awards comprise
of two distinct stages:

(i) A Nominations Form allows the entire comics community to
choose their favourites.
(ii) The top three nominations then appear on the voting form for
the readers and fans to choose from, thus focusing the fans with
no wasted votes.
