COMICS OBSCURA                                        Mike Curtis
                                           shandafa@cyberback.com

[COMICS OBSCURA are facts Mike Curtis has dug out during his 30
years of collecting Superman and writing about comics. His
website for his comic imprint is www.shandafantasyarts.net ]

I JUST HUNG AROUND UNTIL THEY GAVE ME THE JOB

Little Person BILLY CURTIS (no relation) began his association
with Superman as a MOLE MAN in the 1951 feature film SUPERMAN AND
THE MOLE MEN, the tryout for the TV series with George Reeves.
Later on, he appeared as Martian MR. ZERO in the episode of the
same name.  When ADVENTURES wrapped production, producer Whitney
Ellsworth did an unusual pilot on the still standing sets, called
SUPERPUP.  A cast of little people played PERRY BITE, PAMELA
POODLE and other denizens of the DAILY BUGLE where BARK BENT
(played by Curtis) fought crime as SUPERPUP. All the cast wore
paper-mache dog heads with their odd costumes.  Needless to say,
the pilot never sold.
