Great Escape
A look at what to do in the major U.S. and
worldwide tourist destinations. -- January 16, 2006
|
What is Atlanta's appeal? Atlantans say their city combines
classic small town Southern hospitality with all the culture, sports and
amenities of a 21st century city. The 1996 centennial Olympic Games focused
world attention on Atlanta as a model international city. Not only other
Americans, but people from around the world are attracted to Atlanta's
attractions or to attend the city's highly ranked educational and research
institutions, making Atlanta the ninth largest metropolitan area in the U.S.
with more than 4 million residents in its 20th-century metro area. In honor of
Atlanta-born Martin Luther King Jr., if you're in town on Monday, January 16,
you can participate the 20th Annual March and Rally Celebration or on
Thursday, January 19, join in the 23rd Annual Martin Luther King Jr.
Convocation, an inspirational celebration honoring Dr. King.
