Great Escape
A look at what to do in the major U.S. and
worldwide tourist destinations. -- February 27, 2006

If you find yourself in Puerto Vallarta and are bored, you
better check your pulse. If you think that the city is just another resort
city, you better break out the dictionary. Though the focus may be on fun,
sun, sand, surf and such, it's time to sign up for a jungle tour -- how can
that be dull? Or what about the numerous events or attractions around the
city? Puerto Vallarta is one of the friendliest and cleanest beach resorts in
all of Mexico. Old Mexican charm and modern conveniences have collided like
nowhere else. In many cases, donkeys are still used as a delivery method and
the local artisans are Indians who have been producing and manufacturing their
crafts using the same methods for hundreds of years.
Puerto Vallarta is on the same latitude as Hawaii, so if
you've been there, that's what to expect in Puerto Vallarta. English is widely
spoken, especially downtown and in dining areas.
