Great Escape
A look at what to do in the major U.S. and
worldwide tourist destinations. -- June 26, 2006
|
This working-class, "new American world-class
city" is a model of urban renewal. Cleveland was once plagued by debt and
dirt. The city cleaned up the downtown, spruced up the parks and waterways and
has become one of the most livable cities in the U.S.
The city now boasts a legendary art museum, top-notch
symphony, the Great Lakes Science Center and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Not bad at all for a city with a shabby start. The sports scene was also
bolstered by the opening of Jacobs Field, the first of baseball's "new
classic" parks. The blend of tradition and innovation is Cleveland's new
trademark.
A bonus attraction for you: In nearby Sandusky from June
through October, Ghostly Manor (419-627-0862) is open for business. Prepare
for a non-stop, high startle experience the minute the door closes behind you!
Median income -- $25,928
Median house value -- $72,100
