Subject: PottersMarks.co.nz - August03, 2007

Welcome to the August 2007 newsletter of PottersMarks

Not much has been happening with new marks just lately but one new mark has been added. Jan Bell.

There is a new link on the homepage, toi o tahuna art gallery that is situated in Queenstown. Represented artists include Rick Rudd, Manos Nathan, Colleen Urlich and Darren Keith.  It’s a great looking website and well worth a look.

The new forum section of PottersMarks has been interesting. Nine members have signed up for that.  It’s good to read the opinions of other people and great to see new work straight out of the kiln posted there. A new online auction website was mentioned in the forums this week www.faceoff.co.nz. I checked it out as soon as I could and made my first purchase. A Mirek Smisek salt glazed vase. So that’s another place to search for what’s good for you.

The real life auctions are looming: Cordy’s in Auckland, Dunbar Sloane in Wellington, Art + Object has something coming up in September, and Webb’s in December.

Here are a few details on that Webb’s Auction

“We have an important Historical New Zealand Sale December 6th 2007, which will include a section of New Zealand Pottery. To date we are looking for entries from potters including Bruce and Estelle Martin, Len Castle, Chester Nealie, Patricia Perrin, Briar Gardner, Olive Jones, Warren Tippet, Peter Stichbury, Roy Cowan and Juliet Peters, David Brokenshire, Jova Rancich, Barry Brickell to name a few, with the aim to be able to present important and representative exhibition quality items in our catalogue. To date we have a Chester Nealie Kaipara window series bowl, three Graeme Storm early tall vases and foliate carved large floor pot amongst some general but very well executed utilitarian items from other potters.”

The ConeCityClay ceramics exhibition will be held at Compendium in Auckland this year. See the last newsletter for extra details. This exhibition has a good central Auckland position, so get along to that if you can. ConeCityClay is open to all New Zealand potters and ceramic artists.

The bandwidth limit of PottersMarks is still 1 gigabyte per month, so expect there to be access problems in the last part of each month.

And lastly a few minor changes have been made to the PottersMarks website, mostly small things to refine the took of the site and tidy up pages where there are dead links.

Total marks to date: 562. Note: The Jane Capon mark has been removed until it can be verified.
