| On-going newscasts, and incidences continue to release information to the general population. Yet, youth continue to be injured, and in worse cases, meet their demise by participating in this adolescent sensation seeking activity. Education obviously has not yet become widespread beyond a reactive response. Although, there are communities taking a proactive, preventative approach to education. These communities should be held as examples, both neighboring and nationwide, for their commitment in protecting our children. Presentations and Events "Cherish the Child Symposuim" Harford County Maryland April 27, 2007 Kate Blake Leonardi, as the Plenary Speaker, presented "Dangers of The Choking Game" to the symposium. Our great appreciation goes to Mrs. Redding and Sgt Betz and to each Harford County agency represented at the symposium for a warm reception and a wonderful opportunity to engage, inform and network. We look forward to presenting again in October 2007. Florida Youth Academy Challenge - The DB Foundation sponsored a presentation to approx 150
cadets. Many ideas cadets had about the Choking Game were forever changed after attending. This will be a reoccurring venue. Please check the calendar for upcoming events The Petition to "Educate on the DANGERS of the Choking Game" The petition has been well received (with over 2800 signatures to date) and continues to gather signatures in agreeance with our goal of having the D.A.R.E. Program and individual Middle/ High School Health Programs incorporate
asphyxia activity (aka The Choking Game) into the current curriculums. You can also print out a copy of the petition and gather signatures of those who are not able to sign online. Click here to Print a Petition Thanks to LaSheryl in Missouri who has collected over 500 signatures on paper! LaSheryl brings the Petition with her and is always ready to inform and gain a signature! We've discussed YouTube.com and Myspace.com Choking Game videos in previous Newsletters. To combat the on-going issue
of children posting tapes of themselves 'playing', we have collaborated with The Passage Group (www.ThePassageGroup.com). They have created a powerful compilation video of the YouTube videos with the intention of impressing upon parents what their children are doing and the dangerous consequences involved. The video can be viewed at their website listed above. To protect your own children: Check the History on the computer your child uses for YouTube.com and/or MySpace.com pages containing tags of "choke out"; "passout";
"sleeper hold";"choking game";"twitching game". If you find sites - your child most likely has seen a video of people participating in asphyxiation. To remove the videos from the Internet: Using the search feature of these websites, enter "choking game";"choke out";"pass out game";"fainting" (and any similar keywords) when you find a video containing asphyxiation activity mark it as inappropriate. The administrators will then delete the video and occassionally will ban the poster of the video.
