Hi everyone, it's Mardi Gras party time!

The Mardi Gras season starts on January 6, the feast of
the Epiphany, until it culminates on Mardi Gras Day,
also known as Fat Tuesday or Shrove Tuesday, the day
before Ash Wednesday.

If you are throwing a party we have put together some
ideas for you!

Decorating:

Decorate in green, gold and purple, the traditional
colors of the holiday.

Place mardi gras beads in all colors around your party
area, and have plenty on hand for your guests to wear.

Place doubloons which are aluminum coin-like objects
bearing the insignia of the float krewes , around your
table, and make sure to invite your guests to bring
some home!

You can use a large mask and decorate with beads and
doubloons to use as your centerpiece.

More Ideas!

Have pleaty of feathered masks on hand to greet your
guests at the door with! Also incourage them to dress up
in traditional Mardi Gras costumes. It's a Mardi Gras
party, so nothing is too fancy! One popular costume is
the Jester.

If your friends do not have costumes, or just aren't
the  costume type, you can suggest they wear boas, or
crazy wigs! The wilder the better!

Take pictures as pass them out as favors to your guests
as they are leaving the party.

Hurricane drinks are the most popular drink served at
Mardi Gras parties.

King Cakes are a traditonal food that is served at Mardi
Gras parties. If you get the piece of cake that has the
plastic baby doll inside, tradition says that you have
to be the one to throw the next party.

Other tradional New Orleans food to serve:

Spicy Seafood Gumbo

Louisiana Jambalaya

Red Beans and Rice

Hurricanes

Pralines

Have everyone vote and crown a King and Queen at the
stroke of midnight! Make sure and take a picture to give
them before they leave!

Most of all, have fun!
