Hi

Mardi Gras is almost upon us, and we are really getting ready to
party here in  Louisiana!

This year it is officially on February the 8th 2005.

Decorating For A Bourbon Street themed party:

You can recreate the New Orleans parade with balloons and inflatable
dolls of all colors and designs resembling the Bourbon Street
characters.Place doubloons and beads and masks at your table at each
setting. Beads come in many different styles, they can get downright
fancy!

You can use a really fancy crown for your centerpiece, and drape it
with beads and doubloons also. You might even want to try using masks
in different colors and make those into a centerpiece, or even the
King Cake itself, just use your immagination, nothing is too
outrageous for a Mardi Gras Party!

Go all out and select balloons with Mardi Gras colors and fix them to
your table. If you have a King and Queen, you might like to put a
large balloon of Purple Or Gold Or both at their chair to set them
apart from the rest.

Try Putting posters up of previous Bourbon St Mardi Gras Parties to
create a New Orleans atmosphere feel to your room.

Decorate your outside door with a lively Mardi Gras themed panel.

Party Tips:

Make sure to have plenty of party favors to hand out to your guests
when you great them at the door, and encourage them to take some home
with them. Beads, masks, doubloons, light up fun jewelery, and glow
items are really popular for Mardi Gras, and if you  want to really
go all out, there are fun hats, blinking sunglasses, light up
drinking straws, blinking beads, and much more! Beads are a really
sought after item for Mardi Gras, and are thrown from the floats here
along with  doubloons, cups, and more! That is what the cry "throw me
something mister" is all about!

Ask your guests to dress up in bright colors or Mardi Gras Costumes
and to go really all out, after all it's Mardi Gras party! If they
really aren't the costume type, suggest they at least wear a feather
boa, or a wacky type wig.

Play New Orleans brass and Zydeco music to liven things up, but also
have some nice slow songs available for those who want to dance close.

If you need to move chairs and tables around to make room for dancing,
just make sure to have some other type of comfortable seating
available.

Drinks:

Hurricanes are the coctail drink of choice for Mardi Gras, but be sure
and have plenty of non alcohol drinks available also.

Hurricane Drink Recipe:

Pat O'Brien operated a speakeasy during prohibition known as, "Mr. O'
Brien's Club Tipperary" in New Orleans. The password to get in was, "
storm's brewin'". After the repeal of prohibition, opened "Pat O'
Briens". During W.W.II, it was difficult to get whiskey, but rum was
in ample supply. With the help of the liquor salesman, this cocktail
was born. It is served in a 26 oz. hurricane glass, which is named
after the shape of a hurricane lamp and the drink.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz. each of light and dark rum
1 oz. passion fruit syrup
3/4 oz. lime juice

Preparation:

Shake with ice and serve in a hurricane glass. Garnish with a flag.
