While our character is formed by our circumstances, our own desires can do much to shape those circumstances.  What is really ennobling in free will is the conviction that we have the power over the formation of our own character.

Nature is at work around us.  Character and destiny are her handiwork.  She gives us love and hate, jealousy and reverence.  We have the power to choose which impulses we will follow.  We choose which one to feed.

We can at any time decide to alter the course of our life.  No one can ever take that away from us.  We are the master or our joys and our sorrows.  The greatest power we possess is the power to choose.

We are the master of our fate.  We are the captain of our soul.
