How Well Do You Know Your Customers?

What are your customers like? Are they:


- price-sensitive?

- trend-conscious?

- early adopters?


Do you know why they decided to buy from YOU? Are they
repeat customers?


It's important to learn who your customers are... and
what they're thinking.


If you can gather as much information as you can about your
customers, you will be better able to address their needs.


Surveys can help you find out all you want about your
customers and they are useful tools for helping you find
out any problems or any peeves your customers might have
with your product or service. You can also use surveys to
identify new markets and to target POTENTIAL customers.


You must take great care when writing your survey questions.
If you don't ask the right questions the answers you get
won't help you! Think about what you're going do with the
information you will collect from each question. If you're
not going to use it for anything... then don't ask that
question!


Write your questions in such a way that you get a 'measure'
in the answer, eg ask for a rating of 1 - 10. Always give an
even number of choices - if you have an odd number, too
many people will choose the middle one (because it's easier)
and your results won't be accurate. If you don't score a
perfect 10 ask them why and ask what they feel you should do
so that they would give you a 10.


Online surveys make this whole procedure simple to carry
out. Just ask your customers to click a link and they're
there. You can see the live results as they come in.


There are many online survey services available. Look for
one that you feel comfortable using and make sure they offer
support... in case you need it.


It's a good idea to pre-test your survey on a few of your
customers. Ask them for feedback so you can tweak the
survey, if necessary, before asking your whole customer
base to respond.
