VANITY FAIR KATZ FIGHT: TENSIONS MOUNT BETWEEN CARTER AND NEW PUBLISHER
By Keith J. Kelly

http://www.nypost.com/business/vanity_fair_katz_fight_business_keith_j__kelly.htm

VANITY Fair's first-ever Style issue in September looks like it is a hit, but the ad page surge is not enough to reverse the magazine's dismal first-half slide.

Insiders are wondering if the flood of ads will be enough to mask the simmering tension between longtime Editor-in-Chief Graydon Carter and the magazine's new publisher, Alan Katz.

Katz, according to some, has criticized Carter for being aloof and condescending - and often out of the office. And Carter, say others, can't understand how Katz can't sell the magazine to Madison Avenue when newsstand sales are surging to record highs. Carter "has been openly critical of Alan. He casts aspersion on Alan's class and intelligence," said one.

Good magazine founder Ben Goldhirsh's late father may have founded Inc. magazine, but Goldhirsh, 26, isn't the only staffer with big paternal shoes to fill.

Former second son Al Gore 3rd, a recent Harvard graduate, is Good's associate publisher.

A mutual friend connected the two during the youngest Gore's postgraduation job hunt, a spokeswoman said.

Dave Zinczenko Has Better Abs, Life Than You

We're not sure whether Dave Zinczenko likes blowjobs - Oh, who are we kidding, everyone likes blowjobs. And he's Dave Zinczenko! - but he gets one today from James Brady, in what has to be the most mortifying public display of oral attention from an elderly person ever.

Brady even takes out his teeth. The piece extols Zinczenko's (or, as Brady calls him, "The Z Man" - we're as sick as you, honestly) editing prowess: Men's Health is now the biggest magazine in its category, outselling former powerhouses Esquire and GQ ("Fit," as a correspondent writes, "is the new dick."), his literary endeavors (Dave wrote both The Abs Diet and his new one, How To Touch Dave Zinczenko's Cock: A Guide For Women), even the summer house he shares with BFF Dan Abrams, which is apparently a non-stop pussy party. In fact, so disgusted were we by the fawning fellations that we almost missed the throwaway admission at the end:

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- Bernie Goldhirsh, the founder of Inc. magazine, amassed his fortune by selling entrepreneurs ideas on how to make money. Now, his son Ben is trying to make money by telling people how to give something back.
When the elder Mr. Goldhirsh died of complications from brain cancer in 2003, he gave a portion of his $200 million fortune to cancer research and to his two children on the premise that they would initiate entrepreneurial projects.
With some of that money, his 26-year-old son plans to launch a magazine in September called GOOD with a dual purpose: build a profitable business and serve as a platform for people looking to do good. Mr. Goldhirsh is funding the initial $2.5 million start-up cost himself, and he has assembled a core group of about 12 employees -- all under 30.
