Katherine Rizzuto, the current executive beauty director of Vogue, will be the publisher of the magazine that is slated to return to newsstands in spring 2007. She was publisher of Hearst's Marie Claire from 2000 to 2004. Although the return to print for Radar is still eight months away, hiring someone for the fall selling season is considered crucial. Many advertisers set their ad-spending budgets for the next year in the fall. MORE ONLINE

Headline is a double entendre, because while Fashion Rocks has turned into a marketing bonanza for 2004 creator/Cond? Nast Media Group president (since August 2004) Richard Beckman and his staff with both the magazine and the televised music gala, it is also indicative that women's fashion has expanded far beyond the parochial world of Elle/ Harper's Bazaar/ Vogue/ W from a generation ago. Many women's magazines are fashion-endemic, and while September may not be the be-all-and-end-all, they are all seeking pieces of this growing pie. Here is an 11-year record of 16 magazines' Septembers: MORE ONLINE

The Oprah juggernaut has been setting its sights on fashion recently — and its magazine arm is no exception. Oprah Winfrey's TV show has featured designers such as Marc Jacobs, Karl Lagerfeld and Oscar de la Renta and, like any good media conglomerate, O the Oprah Magazine has leveraged that to boost its ad pages from the category. Fashion ad pages jumped 65 percent in the September issue compared with a year ago, helping propel the magazine's overall September ad pages up 55 percent to 230. Fashion advertisers include the likes of Donna Karan, Liz Claiborne and Nordstrom. The September numbers are slightly skewed by the advertising-heavy "30 Days of Fashion" magazine being distributed to 500,000 New York-area subscribers of nine Hearst titles. MORE ONLINE

Where, oh where, is Baby Suri? The daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes was born April 18. But, alas, spring has turned to summer and summer may yet turn to fall and the snows may even fly before a picture of Suri ever surfaces in public. The possibility of one more day without her image has driven the celebrity magazines and tabloids into a tizzy. Headlines scream from the newsstand, asking why "TomKat," in tab-talk, have not shown off their "TomKitten." The celebrity industry, of course, has long been big business, and the industry has long worked hand-in-glove with the magazines that cover it. But the TomKat episode is veering somewhat off course from the standard Hollywood trajectory, catching the attention of the full spectrum of media from bloggers to the mainstream, and serving as a cautionary tale for A-list publicists. It was not too long ago that we were discussing the super boys club feel of the first 20 Radar magazine launches. The constant flow of Maer Roshans, Chris Tenants, Jeff Bercovici, and other well-known media big boys made it difficult to imagine a vagina anywhere near that office. (Though we did learn last month they hired Leigh Ann Boutwell, a chick, as the managing editor)… But it doesn't end there: Roshan also gave the green light on hiring Anne Perton of House & Garden as the new ad director. We gotta say, we're pretty shocked. It's not exactly giving the Fresh Intelligence column to a femme, but maybe Radar is considering marketing the mag towards a more gender neutral audience? Israeli journalist Lisa Goldman reproduces an interesting story regarding the friendship recently established between the respective editors of Time Out Beirut and Time Out Tel Aviv. Though TOB has ceased publication for obvious reasons, TOTA ran a July 20 cover (shortly after the more overt hostilities commenced) that's a variation-homage on the classic "View of New York from Ninth Avenue" cover from the New Yorker. Of course, the view across the river on the TOTA cover is a bit less sanguine than that which inspired it. MORE ONLINE
