******* Janet Jackson's June Us Weekly cover became the magazine's best-selling issue in its history — all while editor-in-chief Janice Min was on maternity leave. But it wasn't just Janet's 60-pound slimming that landed her on the cover. Rather, it was one of those editorial arrangements we've come to expect from media outlets with multiple properties to satisfy. While Time Warner stands by its story that Anderson Cooper's Angelina Jolie interview wasn't an arranged off-shoot of her agreement to give Time Warner's People magazine her baby photos, we're now hearing Janet's involvement with Us-owner Wenner Media includes a very strict agreement that also promises her the cover of Jann Wenner's Rolling Stone. With a new album out, a Rolling Stone cover would be a nice boost for Janet's likely to be unimpressive album sales. But to get that elusive cover, Wenner required her to shill for tabloid baby Us Weekly. MORE ONLINE
2. The Daily NEW YORK) Having spent the summer schlepping samples and faxing copy, Cond? Nast’s 103 interns evidently learned a thing or two—namely, that Brides and Glamour are true “fashionista” books, while Vanity Fair and Details are strictly for the “news savvy.” At least, that’s according to the Summer 2006 issue of Intern Magazine, produced by and for interns at 4 Times Square and, now, 750 Third Avenue. In a questionnaire on page 32 of the 34-page glossy, titled “Which Cond? Nast Magazines Suit You?” the following scenarios are taken to task: 1. After hours of fact-checking and transcribing, you have some free time at the office. What website do you go to??a. style.com?b. cnn.com?c. epicurious.com MORE ONLINE
3. The Daily (NEW YORK) Nylon has acquired a new team member just in time for Fashion Week. Harper’s Bazaar senior market editor Joe Berean is bidding farewell to the Hearst Tower and will relocate to Soho on September 5, where he will assume his new duties as market director of Nylon. The transfer downtown marks Berean’s third masthead shift in less than a year—this past November, he left Glamour after being recruited by Bazaar market director (and former Cond? Nast colleague) Nicole Fritton when she decamped to the Hearst fashion title. In his new role at Nylon, Berean will assume some of the duties left behind by departed fashion director Frank De Jesus, while the rest will be picked up by Nylon’s existing fashion team. Berean will also attend the upcoming Milan shows with accessories director Dani Stahl. In related news, Harper’s Bazaar has tapped Jessica Karcher as its new associate market editor. Karcher resigned from Elle last Friday, where she had been assisting fashion director Nina Garcia. MORE ONLINE
