The property is said to be a large corporate initiative that would involve both the Cond?Net and Cond? Nast camps. The content would reflect what could be described as the essence of Cond? Nast magazines Glamour, Allure, Self and Jane, but would be a standalone entity with original content. The entity could be another division in the same vein as Portfolio, which is housed within the Cond? Nast Business Group, but there would not be a heavier focus on one medium over another. One source said the idea could be greenlighted in as soon as a month, but others believe it still is in its infancy and far from finalized. MORE ONLINE GOOD SHOPPING: The premiere issue of Good magazine ("for people that give a damn") is getting extra play this week in the windows of Santa Monica's Fred Segal Flair, a boutique perhaps known more for conspicuous rather than conscious consumption-the latter being one of Good's tag lines. Against a near-wallpapering of the issue cover on the store's walls, mannequins take a supreme interest in the words of contributors such as The New Yorker's James Surowiecki and Columbia superprof/Bono buddy Jeffrey Sachs. The floor is littered with subscription inserts. Founded and bankrolled by 26-year-old Ben Goldhirsh (the son of the founder of Fast Company and Inc.), Good's first issue caught the eye of Fred Segal Flair owner Jeannine Braden, who offered the magazine her windows for the first half of September. "I'm treating the magazine like I would a clothing trend," she said. "I want to be the first to get them out there." MORE ONLINE ALL OVER ...: As if designers didn't have enough on their plate with their shows looming, a blitz of magazine parties Wednesday night obliged them to make a revolving door of appearances. Familiar faces recurred, among them Diane von Furstenberg, Behnaz Sarafpour, Tory Burch, Francisco Costa, Cynthia Rowley and Lela Rose. At the Glamour party in the West Village, co-host Michael Kors was upbeat. "For a week, I won't realize I'm tired," he said. "I just don't get any designer that complains about this week." ALL OVER ...: As if designers didn't have enough on their plate with their shows looming, a blitz of magazine parties Wednesday night obliged them to make a revolving door of appearances. "I just don't get any designer that complains about this week." Glamour publisher Bill Wackermann had other concerns: slipping out of the party, which celebrated his magazine's "Big Book of Dos & Don'ts," he joked that he needed to get away from all the 6-foot-tall women towering over him. People magazine took the high road when it had a chance to get pilfered copies of pictures of Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and baby Suri that are now running exclusively in the October issue of Vanity Fair. VF Editor-in-Chief Graydon Carter had been so worried about leaks, there were reports that he had hired security guards at printing plants and at distribution points. People had gone into a tizzy several months after it found photos of the Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie baby appearing on Web sites in advance of newsstand copies. People had reportedly paid $1.4 million for the Brangelina baby photos, declined to comment on its latest role as a corporate good citizen against a Cond? Nast title that would normally be a key rival for celebrity news. MORE ONLINE

One danger in thinking about media too much is reducing everything to The Game. And, to oversimplify what the late Atlantic Monthly editor and essayist Michael Kelly said, The Game is simply one of burnishing your own image by getting good press. Of scandals weathered wisely; of years feeding the ever-hungry journalistic pack and escaping with all fingers intact. When The Game is taken to its extreme by those who work in media and in media-savvy industries like entertainment and politics, good performances at the above equal virtue. I regret to say that this column is about all of these things. And Angelina Jolie. Actress, U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees Goodwill Ambassador since 2001, adoptive and birth mother, and philanthropist, she's the all-purpose action figure of today's celebrity-industrial complex. Her skills at The Game astonish its harshest judges -- the hardened vets of celebrity media. "She really is the new paradigm of how to use your celebrity in ways that benefit everyone involved," says Larry Hackett, People's top editor. Not least of which is herself. It would be churlish to imply that Jolie's extensive charity work is motivated by anything other than sincerity, but it's a crucial element of her increasing celebrity currency and transformation from blood-obsessed tattooed goth to post-punk Mother Teresa. Also, her boyfriend is Brad Pitt. THE TOP FIVE CELEBRITY magazines sell a combined 5 million copies on newsstands each week, and each week requires fresh meat. Celebrity media circa 2006 call for more than just glammed-up or dressed-down images. Like any good reality show, they require story lines and character arcs. They need drama and a steady stream of fresh episodes. MORE ONLINE

Magazines from Vanity Fair to Flaunt to Wired have all published special "green" issues designed to raise awareness and bring attention to rising concern over global warming and climate control. But none went as far as The Economist to directly address the impact their own publications have on the environment. 'Journalistically interesting' Emma Duncan, deputy editor for the London-based newsweekly, wanted to do something unique for the magazine's 16-page green section, on newsstands tomorrow. So she arranged for the spread to be carbon-neutralized through the Carbon Neutral Co. in London. "I thought it would be the journalistically interesting thing to do," Ms. Duncan said. The eco-friendly process -- which entailed calculating all the carbon dioxide burned from all the traveling, production, printing and distribution of the issue so Carbon Neutral could trap the equivalent amount of carbon dioxide (118 tons) in a U.S. mine as a way of neutralizing the emissions created by producing the magazine -- cost about $1,200. You know Kitson as the L.A. boutique that both counts Nicky Hilton as both a supplier and a customer. The shop gets regular shout outs from the likes of Lindsay, Nicole, Jessica, and Paris, sealing its cultural relevance. You also know Kitson as store owned by Fraser Ross, who decided to capitalize on all the celebrity foot traffic and jump into the paparazzi business with Sunset Photo and News LLC - flanked by Jill Ishkanian, the former Us Weekly staffer now at the center of a federal investigation looking into whether she hacked her former employer's computers. So, as you can tell, there's already bad blood between Kitson and the Wenner Media tabloid. And, as of yesterday, there's even more: Kitson filed a lawsuit against the gossip rag, alleging Janice Min & Co. violated written and oral agreements not to badmouth each other. And look at that - we've exclusively got the court documents. Back in February, the bad blood between Kitson and Us - stemming from Ross hosting a book party west coast editor Ken Baker, who supposedly didn't give enough in return - was settled with a $13,620 payment and a signed agreement between Ross and Us that the neither side was "to make, or knowingly cause to be made any statement or communication written or oral with the intention of (a) disparaging or otherwise impugnin the business or management of any of the Paries ... (b) damaging the personal or business reputation of any of the parties ... or (c) interfering with, impairing or disrupting the normal business operations of any of the Parties." MORE ONLINE
