ADIEU, HOMMES

Bruno Danto is out as editor in chief of Vogue Hommes International and Olivier Lalanne is in. Lalanne, features editor at French Vogue since 2003, is taking on the editor in chief duties and also will serve as associate editor in chief of French Vogue, a new position. Carine Roitfeld, editor in chief of French Vogue since 2001, also will assume the role of editorial director at Vogue Hommes International. A Cond? Nast spokeswoman said Danto will continue to work with the company on a project basis, but she declined to comment further on his departure. Danto's reign as editor in chief was brief: He held the position for just over a year. Xavier Romatet, managing director of Cond? Nast France, said that, by placing the same tandem at the head of French Vogue and Vogue Hommes International, he wants to strengthen the identity and editorial "cohesion" between the two magazines.

TIME TO GO

Joanne Lipman just snagged another talent. The latest journalist to join Cond? Nast Portfolio will be Kurt Eichenwald, a senior writer and investigative reporter at The New York Times since 1988 who covered security scandals at firms including Prudential Securities and Enron and most recently garnered acclaim for his report on child pornography. Eichenwald's reporting led to the closing of many portals that linked to online child porn sites and a Congressional investigation into their growth, in which he was subpoenaed to testify in hearings.

TRAVELING AROUND

Travel + Leisure has been shaking up its masthead. New features director Alice Gordon comes to T+L from Martha Stewart Living, while Nelson Mui, a society columnist at San Francisco Magazine, is replacing Laura Begley as the magazine's style editor. Begley, who was style director, has been promoted to deputy editor. Editor in chief Nancy Novogrod also raided the mastheads of two other travel titles — new news editor John Newton was a contributing editor to Cond? Nast Traveler, and Nina Willdorf has come from Budget Travel to be senior editor at T+L. Nilou Motamed has moved up from senior editor to features editor.

PHOTO WARS

Although former chief lensman Patrick Demarchelier left Hearst Magazines in 2004, he's giving back to his old employer by donating a photograph from his personal collection during Hearst's 30 Days of Fashion exhibit and auction today at the Hearst Tower. Demarchelier, now under corporate contract to shoot exclusively for Cond? Nast titles, including Vogue, Glamour and Vanity Fair, will donate a 24-by-20-inch signed untitled photo of dancing model Carmen Kass that appeared in Harper's Bazaar in 2001. Meanwhile, current Harper's photographer Peter Lindbergh contributed an autographed print of model Amber Valletta dressed as an angel in New York's Grand Central Station. Demarchelier's photo has a value of $8,000; Lindberg's 36-by-24-inch work is valued at $19,500. Other items to be auctioned at the event include photos donated by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders and Karl Lagerfeld, a private dinner for 12 hosted by Esquire editor David Granger and chef Danny Meyer, and a $30,700 seven-day trip to India.
