******* Jann Wenner has another reason to head south for the winter: Rolling Stone will roll out its 14th international edition in Brazil on Oct. 20. The music title will be published monthly with a target circulation of 100,000 and will have a 50/50 editorial mix of original local content and content from Rolling Stone's U.S. version, translated into Portuguese. The debut issue carries 40 ad pages from the likes of international brands Toyota, Philips, McDonald's, Samsung, Volkswagen, Kia Motors and Nestl?. Gisele B?ndchen sat for the cover of the Brazil debut, a departure from aged cover subjects Bob Dylan and Jack Nicholson, who recently have appeared on the U.S. version. For the record, Dylan's no cover dog — he outsold young pop stars Christina Aguilera by 20,000 copies and Justin Timberlake by 26,000 copies.

THE Weider family - the vi tamin kings who started and sold a magazine empire - are expected to play a behind-the-scenes role in buying back the muscle mags that David Pecker's American Media is putting on the block. The family at this point wants to be a backer, but not the outright owner again, Media Ink has learned. "We'd be open to partnering with the winning bidder, but we're not interested in operating them again," said Eric Weider, the president and CEO of Weider Health and Fitness. MORE ONLINE

Future US, publisher of gaming, music, computing and sports titles like PC Gamer and Revolver, has shuttered four titles, three of which were part of the group of women’s lifestyle magazines the company acquired in June 2005. A spokesman said the publisher folded the titles to invest in its core products, which are aimed at young men. "Our mission is to be a premier provider of content in multiple media areas for young men. Thus, games, technology, music and action sports remain our key areas of focus and investment in print and on line as well as through our expanding event efforts and custom publishing. Within this refocusing we have had to make a very difficult decision about a few of our titles," the spokesman said. "With investment funds at a premium and some of our core projects needing investment too, we have been left with no choice but to choose where to focus our efforts and resources." The niche publications that closed effective with the September issue were Women's Health & Fitness, House DIY, Decorating Spaces, all based in Atlanta, and San Francisco-based Scrapbook Answers.
