Parents Upset Over Graphic Articles In Popular Magazine
By Yahoo! News Editors

http://news.yahoo.com/s/wews/20061120/lo_wews/10318166

Seventeen magazine is the best-selling monthly teen magazine in the country, reaching 13 million young women, like a group of teens from Bedford High School. The whole magazine just like educates you on every subject of a girl's life," said 16-year-old Gabrielle Seibana.

NewsChannel5's Danita Harris said there's more to Seventeen magazine than clothes and makeup tips. There are articles titled "Everyone Thinks I'm a Slut," "Am I Gay?" and a headline that said how to get "deep" with your guy. Wanda Walker's daughter received a free subscription to Seventeen and she said the magazine has gone too far. "They had a lot of sexual stuff in there. They were using words that I could not believe they would speak to a teenager in that manner," said Walker. "They showed a graphic picture of a female that was so graphic I didn't feel the need as to why they would show that."

Walker was referring to the article "Vagina 101." One teen Harris talked with read the article and was surprised by what she saw. "There are two pictures here of female labias and I think that's ... I was shocked," said 17-year-old LaKendra Johnson. "I read this article called 'Lesbian Killers' and it really did shock me," said 14-year-old Lorielle Archuleta. One teen said the articles are not out of the ordinary.

Radar is back, even if, you know, it's not really back, but only exists as a domain name and varying levels of truthiness. But it's coming back, in the "increasingly relevant" form of a print magazine. Which means editor Maer Roshan and his shady consortium of financial backers are hoping you'll fill out an antinquated business reply mail card, toss it in the post, and wait 4-6 weeks for a new stream of junk mail from a a magazine that – let's be honest here – was lucky enough to have two incarnations. Forthwith, the note going out to past subscribers of Radar, attached to said mailer asking for your demographic details and email address, with promises to send "special gifts and prizes." Like "v1@grA" and "w31ght l0$$ p1LL$."
