Best Man??¦ New Vibe
By Stephanie D. Smith & Amy Wicks

http://www.wwd.com/issue/article/111142

BEST MAN: Best Life has poached its new publisher from the halls of competitor Cond?© Nast. GQ associate publisher Michael Wolfe will join Rodale on Monday, succeeding Mary Murcko, who moved over to Women's Health in October. Wolfe's three years at GQ and three years as associate publisher/advertising director for O: The Oprah Magazine will be key to generating ad revenues as the nearly three-year-old Best Life raises its rate base to 450,000 from 400,000 with the February issue. "He's definitely smart, strategic and so well-liked in talking to advertisers. A lot of people threw his name up for the job unprompted," said MaryAnn Bekkedahl, Rodale's executive vice president and group publisher. What does any executive do after nabbing a big promotion? In Wolfe's case, go to Disney World ??” he's headed there this morning for a long weekend, planned months beforehand, before starting his new gig on Monday. Here's hoping he doesn't get lost on the "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride.

NEW VIBE: As Vibe Vixen makes the leap to publish six times per year ??” it currently publishes four times ??” it's bulking up its staff with the additions of Erika Perry as art director and photo editor Deborah Boardley, both new positions. Tai Beauchamp recently began as deputy editor, replacing Ayana Byrd. Beauchamp has worked for Seventeen, Suede and O: The Oprah Magazine. Perry was an art director for Suede, and Boardley has been a photo editor for Blaze magazine, Honey and Heart & Soul. Boardley and Perry will report to Dwayne Shaw, creative director, and Beauchamp will report to Danyel Smith, editor in chief.

TEN companies are still circling the 18 Time Inc. titles that have been put on the block - and there are lots of surprises in the mix. Perhaps the biggest is that U2 front man Bono is in the hunt.

The Irish rocker is the co-founder and managing director of Elevation Partners, which is said to be interested in acquiring the Parenting Group, which includes magazines Parenting, Baby Talk and related Web sites.

This summer, Bono and his Elevation pals, including private-equity big Roger McNamee, stunned the investment world when they plunked down a reported $300 million for a 40 percent stake in Forbes Inc.

Victoria and Vanessa Traina may have the party circuit covered from coast to coast, but their 25-year-old sister, Samantha, is getting into the fashion action as well. The daughter of Danielle Steel and John Traina has been named assistant fashion editor at C Magazine, the regional lifestyle title based in L.A. She started on Monday. At the magazine, Traina will primarily be assisting stylists on fashion features, covers, and front of book C Fashion. She will also attend collection previews and style smaller shoots. The George Washington University alum, who relocated from San Francisco to L.A., shouldn??™t find her job too tasking. In addition to having assisted on shoots for Elle, In Style, Jane, Details, and Arena, she was most recently retail director and sole buyer at San Francisco??™s Dylan boutique.
