******* Bill Wackermann wasn't feeling the love Tuesday night during Cond? Nast's annual publisher's meeting in Naples, Fla. After the Glamour vice president and publisher was passed over for Publisher of the Year last year in favor of Gina Sanders, Teen Vogue's vice president and publisher, Wackermann was considered one of this year's top contenders. But he was shut out from any awards given to executives for stellar performance. Insiders were abuzz Wednesday morning at Wackermann's obvious shutout, some calling the move a "complete diss." According to sources, Cond? Nast chief executive officer Chuck Townsend emphasized the awards went beyond an executive's growth in terms of dollars, but also were given to those who best reflect the company's values. Publisher of the Year honors went to Vogue publishing director Tom Florio, as WWD reported Wednesday. Some insiders believed Florio's win was overdue — in five years as publisher of Vogue and 22 years overall with the company, this was the first time he's received the honor. Wackermann, however, was upbeat about Florio's win. "Tom Florio had an amazing year at Vogue and totally deserves the recognition," he said via e-mail. "Hey, there is always next year." Meanwhile, Joe Lagani, vice president and publisher for House & Garden, received the Turnaround of the Year award. Townsend also gave out awards for Top Performances, which more reflect a magazine's quantitative strength in terms of ad pages and revenue. Teen Vogue received the platinum award, the top honor, another addition to Sanders' increasingly crowded mantle. Wired won gold, given to both publisher Jay Lauf and vice president and publishing director Drew Schutte. Silver went to Allure, where Nancy Berger Cardone has boosted ad pages four years in a row, and Vogue won bronze, reemphasizing how well the company's franchise player performed as it spun off two other titles, Men's Vogue and Vogue Living, while simultaneously growing the flagship's bottom line. Townsend also gave out awards for Corporate Executive of the Year to Julie Michalowski, vice president-business development, and a Special Recognition award to Suzanne Grimes, senior vice president, corporate sales.

The revolving door at Men's Journal brought in yet another editor on Tuesday: James Kaminsky, who moved from his position as deputy managing editor of Rolling Stone to replace editor Tom Foster. Foster's abrupt exit comes just over a year into his tenure, where he reported to editor in chief Jann Wenner. "I spent most of the past seven years there. I had a chance to work on that magazine at every different level from intern all the way up," Foster told WWD. "It was a great experience, but it was time to move on." That said, Men's Journal has run through five editors in six years, and it's no secret Jann Wenner has removed both editors and publishers at a whim without notice. (Coincidentally, Foster told attendees at a Mediabistro panel on Monday that living in fear of getting fired "keeps the adrenaline pumping.") Men's Journal's newsstand has been weak during Foster's tenure, falling 31.5 percent in the first half of the year, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations. The magazine said the drop was due in large part because it discontinued a program that distributed 150,000 promotional copies of its May and December special issues. But the first half also produced newsstand duds, such as the March issue with Bode Miller on the cover, a move Foster called his worst mistake as an editor at the Monday panel. MORE ONLINE

Time Warner Inc. reported its fourth-quarter and full-year earnings results Wednesday and while revenue was up 8 percent to $12.4 billion for the quarter and increased 4 percent for the year to $44.2 billion, the company's publishing side, Time Inc., experienced a decline of 1 percent, for both the fourth quarter and full year. Wayne Pace, executive vice president and chief financial officer, explained the decrease can be attributed to lower revenue at its domestic magazines and the closure of Teen People. However, he said the sector was offset by higher online advertising revenue. Time Inc.'s subscriptions grew 2 percent for the final quarter and lost 1 percent for the year, while advertising numbers fell 1 percent for the quarter and grew 2 percent for the year. Separately, a senior official added that no further management changes are planned for this year. Dick Parsons, chairman and chief executive officer, said that Time Inc. continues to be the leading magazine publisher, in terms of readership and advertising share. He added that its digital strategy is working and more is in store. Parsons reported that people.com is the number-one online celebrity destination, in terms of engagement, with average monthly page views up to 350 million, and tmz.com — a joint venture between AOL and Telepictures Productions — is the number-one celebrity site in unique visitors per month.

Tom Florio is officially Cond? Nast’s new publishing darling. Following a prolonged cocktail hour, the husband, father, champion athlete, and Vogue publishing director was named Publisher of the Year Tuesday night at a dinner hosted by Cond? Nast president and CEO Chuck Townsend in Naples, FL. Florio’s win shouldn’t come as a surprise to those in media circles, as he spearheaded the launch of two spin-off titles—Men’s Vogue and Vogue Living—from his fashion bible flagship. And while ad pages didn’t increase by the double-digit growth—up only 3 percent to 3,057—he would ideally have enjoyed, Florio did manage to bring back Giorgio Armani for 2007, whose ad pages took an extended holiday from the title in 2006. Having recently revamped Time.com, Time Inc. plans to focus on developing People and Real Simple’s online businesses, Time Inc. chairman and CEO Ann Moore said. Developing Real Simple’s Web site will be one of Time Inc.’s priorities this year, and People.com plans to launch a celebrity database next year. The database will feature continuously updated celebrity profiles, data and original editorial content, Moore said in a keynote speech this morning at the Software Information Industry Association’s Information Industry Summit in New York. The SIIA is the trade association for the software and digital content industry. “People.com will be our next big business online,” she declared. Acknowledging that readership of printed magazines isn’t growing, she said, “We are not indifferent to total customer flight to digital. That’s why huge volume is absolutely a requirement online.”
