******* American Media Inc. named veteran tabloid editor Candace Trunzo as the new editor in chief of Star magazine, capping weeks of speculation that Joe Dolce would leave the post after his contract expires March 31. "I want to thank Joe for all his efforts and contributions towards Star's successful transition from tabloid to glossy magazine over the past three years," AMI chief David Pecker said in a note to staff distributed Feb. 13. Speculation about Dolce's impending departure followed a year of woes at Star, which AMI acknowledged in a recent financial filing. The 1.5 million-circ title, which underwent a costly makeover three years ago, faces increased competition on the newsstand in the celebrity weekly field from rivals like Wenner Media's Us Weekly and Bauer Publishing's In Touch and Life & Style. In the past, "Cupid" came disguised as Christie Brinkley/Heidi Klum/Elle Macpherson and other supermodels in a Swimsuit tradition started 43 years ago by Sports Illustrated editors as winter "filler" between the football and baseball seasons. Editorial mysteries for Swimsuit 2007 will be solved at the midnight (Eastern) beginning of Valentine's Day (February 14), when the cover is revealed concurrently on SI.COM and on Jay Leno's Tonight Show. No mysteries, though, about the business, which, like the models' measurements, has "filled out" brilliantly. SI president (since December 2005) Mark Ford tells min that Swimsuit print advertising revenues topped a Publishers Information Bureau-filed $41 million thus year. Although just a modest gain from 2006's $39.9 million, the sum is more than several magazines accrue in a year. Here is the Swimsuit advertising-page timeline dating back to 1984: MORE ONLINE

Three months ago, our offices in Marylebone looked great - all steel and oak furniture from Switzerland - but didn't have any phones or computers. Or staff. Today, they are home to 20 writers, editors and designers. The once-empty pinboard has been transformed into the "wonderwall", covered in proofs for the hundreds of pages we have sent to press for this week's launch of Monocle, a briefing on global affairs, business, culture and design. have been here as editor for only two months - after joining from this newspaper's Sunday sister - and I can't quite believe how many stories have been pulled off against the odds in that short space of time. Or how people who never knew each other before have come together as a loyal, focused team. We think Monocle is just what the market needs - a title that spends serious money on sending writers and photographers to find the best stories on every continent and opposes armchair journalism and shuns celebrity (that includes celebrity writers; we have no star columnists, no picture bylines). Women??™s World was the top seller in the women??™s magazine category with 1.4 million copies per issue, down 2.8 percent from almost 1.45 a year earlier. The much-buzzed about changes at Elle are slowly become a full-blown reality. Over the course of Fashion Week here last week, Gilles Bensimon, whose international creative title has been moved down to the bottom of the masthead beginning with this month??™s March issue, was moved out of his prime, not to mention spacious, corner office on the 44th floor to accommodate Roberta Myers. The fashion title??™s editor-in-chief, for her part, had been holed up in an office not befitting her stature, and the justified changes came as part of an entire restructuring of several departments, save for fashion. Fashion news director Anne Slowey, whose office was directly adjacent to Bensimon??™s old space, was also upgraded to a larger office, and the buzz on the floor is that she??™s also getting a coveted wooden floor instead of the drab office carpeting. Bensimon??™s new office is half the size of his old workspace, according to sources, but given the photographer??™s busy travel schedule and the addition of Joe Zee as creative director, his day-to-day duties in the office are slowly dwindling. Zee, meanwhile, who??™s situated in his own impressive office in the art department, will style his first Elle cover with Bensimon for the June issue. Zee??™s first full issue, meanwhile, will debut in September. MORE ONLINE 7. WWDSummer Job By Stephanie D. The seasonal gig works well with Portfolio's frequency ??” its first issue will make its debut in April, and then will begin a monthly schedule in September. "Because Portfolio doesn't publish in the summer, it's a good use of my time," said the new editor. At Hamptons Style, Schoeneman recruited photographer Jessica Craig-Martin, who has shot for Vogue and Vanity Fair, and who shot the "Socialities - They're Just Like Us!" spread in Radar 3.0, to be creative director. She's also signed up contributors including New York Times style and travel reporter Julia Chaplin, Daily Candy's Pavia Rosati and socialite Ardel Wohl. Meanwhile, Debbie Bancroft will continue to serve as society editor. Schoeneman will write a real estate column for Hamptons Style, and plans to increase coverage of art, design and literature in the Hamptons, as well as include regular fashion and shopping columns.
