******* ANN Wenner solved at least one of his headaches in the art departments of Wenner Media. He's landed Chip Kidd, the noted book-cover designer, to do the magazine's three big 40th anniversary covers for Rolling Stone. That still leaves him with only an interim art director working on most of the day-to-day covers. His last art director, Amid Capeci, split to go back to Newsweek late last year, and the replacement, Matt Guemple, was only hired on an interim basis while the search continues. Kidd designed covers for books from Michael Crichton's best-selling "Jurassic Park" to John Updike's "Terrorist" and Noble Prize winner Orhan Pamuk's "Snow." MORE ONLINE

TAKE TWO: If the March cover of Details with David Beckham looks familiar, it's because it is. A similar shot of Beckham appeared on the magazine's August 2005 cover — both issues show Beckham wearing the same button-down, open-necked Prada white shirt, shot by Tom Munro in 2005. The decision to go to the archives and pull an old photo wasn't the first choice for editor in chief Dan Peres, but that's what happens when a hotter story comes along one week before you are due to go to press. The original cover was pulled because of Beckham's announcement that he would move to America and earn Oprah-caliber money to play soccer for the Los Angeles Galaxy. "Honestly, I reacted to an extraordinary cultural happening," Peres said. "I made what I believed to be the correct editorial decision." Peres tried to get a last-minute photo shoot with Beckham, but he only had two days and the soccer star was already back in Madrid. IN A BUBBLE: When it comes to reporting food and shelter stories, some contributors to The New York Times seem to be looking no further than across Times Square at the Cond? Nast building. ARTFUL EXIT: After barely a month as editor in chief of LTB Media's Culture & Travel, Peter Terzian has resigned. The former assistant books editor at Newsday found himself catapulted to the top spot at the magazine, launched in September, when former editor in chief Michael Boodro left to be editor of Martha Stewart Living. Terzian confirmed Tuesday that he had left the company, but declined to comment further. _ COUNT CAREFULLY: Circulation at Wenner Media's Us Weekly in the second half of last year grew 5.4 percent over the same period in 2005, to 1,751,709, boosted in part by a 9 percent growth in subscriptions. But there's a hitch in those numbers: Us Weekly would not have cleared its 1.75 million rate base if it weren't for 31,048 in average verified subscriptions. Moreover, verified subs — or those in public places like doctors' waiting rooms and hairdressers — swung wildly from 2,952 in the middle of the period to 202,905 in its last week._ MORE ONLINE

Few examples of blogging gone wrong are as prominent as the recent case of Jim Zumbo, former hunting editor of Time Inc.’s Outdoor Life the second largest outdoor magazine in the U.S. In a February 16 blog post (since removed from the Outdoor Life site), Zumbo expressed his thoughts on so-called “assault rifles” by saying, “Excuse me, maybe I’m a traditionalist, but I see no place for these weapons among our hunting fraternity. As hunters, we don’t need to be lumped into the group of people who terrorize the world with them…I’ll go so far as to call them ‘terrorist rifles.’” The response was swift, and not just from the NRA. The post generated more than 2,000 comments, most of them negative. Hunting and shooting chat rooms buzzed all over the Internet. The post was made on a Friday evening, and by Sunday afternoon, Zumbo had posted an apology. MORE ONLINE
