******* Don't cross agency JGK, no matter how long it's represented you. The agency is ending its representation of photographer and Elle international creative director Gilles Bensimon after more than 10 years of service. Jean Gabriel Kauss, president of the agency, cited loyalty issues with Bensimon, a friend of Kauss' for the past 35 or 40 years. "This decision is grounded in professional differences that render it impossible for us to further represent Gilles," Kauss said in a statement. He declined further comment. A spokeswoman for Hachette Filipacchi Media said she knew nothing about the decision and couldn't reach Bensimon.

Elle magazine held court at the Gramercy Park Hotel Wednesday night to discuss sex, power, money, ambition — and vibrators. Campbell Brown, moderator and NBC anchor, couldn't help but introduce one panelist, feminist Jessica Valenti, as having tracked all the states that have banned vibrators. That little tidbit kicked off an hour-long conversation between Valenti; Ann Lewis, senior adviser to Sen. Hillary Clinton, and Marissa Mayer, vice president of search products and user experience at Google. Lewis said she is frustrated with the amount of time the media spends on issues that it would never touch upon with men, such as Clinton's wardrobe on the campaign trail. "We don't have strategy sessions about that," she added. She also took offense by a column by an editor at The Washington Post that asked why Clinton was not smiling in a picture, since the same question typically wouldn't be asked of a male candidate. "People feel it's alright to hold women to really absurd standards." One of the few male attendees who sat through the entire discussion said he left the panel disappointed. "For a discussion that's supposed to be about women, why did they mainly talk about men?"

New York magazine has promoted from within to fill the design director position left vacant by Luke Hayman, who joined Pentagram and recently redesigned Time. Chris Dixon, previously art director, joined in 2004 to help Hayman and editor in chief Adam Moss revamp New York's look. That effort won them the 2006 National Magazine Award for design and the Society of Publication Designers Magazine of the Year award, and the magazine is up for both awards this year.

Eric Pooley has found another home within a Time Inc. title after being shifted from his managing editor's gig at Fortune last fall. Time managing editor Richard Stengel named Pooley editor at large at the newsweekly, working on investigative stories. Time Inc. editor in chief John Huey uprooted Pooley from his position in November, replacing him with Fortune columnist and former CNN anchor Andy Serwer. Stengel unveiled several other promotions on Wednesday, including Bill Saporito to assistant managing editor, editing Time's business, Global Business sections and sports stories, and Rebecca Winters Keegan as Hollywood correspondent. Keegan, already based in Los Angeles, has been a laptop correspondent for Time and produced the celebrity-filled People page for three years.

THE auction for Primedia's enthusiast magazines is heating up. Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers are handling the divestment for Henry Kravis, the Kohlberg Kravis Roberts boss who controls the majority of the stock in Primedia. The company - a diverse publication package that includes everything from Motor Trend and Automobile to Horse & Rider and Surfer plus the auto.com site - hasn't given Kravis much to smile about recently, but the big auction now underway could get him to crack a smile.
