Consumer Reports Names 2 Editors and Says Magazine Will Be Redesigned
By Louise Story
April 10, 2007

As it struggles to recover from a recent flawed article about children’s car seats, Consumer Reports has named two new editors and announced a redesign.

Kimberly Kleman has become the magazine’s editor in chief, and she will remain second in command at the editorial division of Consumers Union, a nonprofit company that publishes consumer product magazines, books and newsletters.

The company also named Greg Daugherty, a longtime editor at Consumer Reports, to a newly created position to oversee personnel issues for all the company’s reporters and editors.

"GQ" VP/PUBLISHER PETE HUNSINGER WISHES THAT LINDSAY LOHAN WAS THREE MONTHS OLDER.
By Steve Cohn
April 9, 2007
http://www.minonline.com/mb_topstory.htm

Three months and two days to be precise, for it will be on July 2 that the actress turns 21 and is legally able to buy a drink. Assuming press accounts are correct, that has not stopped Lohan before, and it did not stop Gentlemen's Quarterly editor-in-chief (since June 2004) Jim Nelson from putting an "underage" Lohan on the cover of April's Love, Sex, and Madness issue. Problem for Hunsinger (whose GQ tenure is almost concurrent with Nelson's) is that Lohan being a "minor" is a potential problem for liquor advertisers. "I let them know, and most switched to other issues," he says. (Grey Goose [vodka] and Silver Patr?n [tequila] are two that stayed.) "I can't disagree with Jim putting Lindsay on the cover—she epitomizes Love, Sex, and Madness—even if it did make the work of our sales staff harder," and successful, with April 2007's 146 ad pages 6_ greater than April 2006 (+4.7%).

Memo Pad

NO SUCH THING AS BAD PUBLICITY: Ad honcho Richard Kirshenbaum is usually in the business of promoting his clients, but who says promotion is a one-way street? Kirshenbaum recently helped Bruce Willis learn the ins and outs of the advertising world for his new movie, "Perfect Stranger," and in return, Kirshenbaum Bond + Partners gets a plug in the movie. And it seems Kirshenbaum wants to extend his brush with the celebrity world — he also pops up as a "top cop" for the "Fashion Police" feature in the April 16 issue of Us Weekly.

Clarification: An April 6 story in Memo Pad about celebrity weekly Star laying off two employees in its fashion department, fashion director Joni Cohen and marketing assistant Josh Liebman, said fashion publicists were informed of the move via an e-mail, which stated that, as of April 4, "There will no longer be fashion in Star or a Star fashion department." That e-mail was sent by Cohen from her Star e-mail account prior to her departure, but was not an official statement from Star or its parent company, American Media Inc., an AMI spokesman said.
