******* On Friday, TMZ noticed that Andy Roddick looked rather buff in his recent Men's Fitness cover — weirdly, egg-white-and-whey-enzyme- muscle-building-protein-powder-with- a-dash-of-steroids buff. Were those really Roddick's guns, it wondered, or had Men's Fitness indulged in a little Kate Winslet-Emma Watson-Martha Stewart-style photoshoppery? Survey says: Yes! Turns out we got the confirm from the brawny Mr. Roddick himself. Via Towleroad (which has some yummy before and after pics showing that Roddick didn't need any damn help), we nav'd on over to AndyRoddick.com, where the tennis star posted an entry to his blog (yes! Posted an entry to his blog!). Unfortunately, information ain't free, and you need to be a member to read the whole thing, so we'll trust Towleroad for the excerpt: "I spent the last few weeks in Austin really focused on my training and getting back into shape...but pretty sure I'm not as fit as the Men's Fitness cover suggests...little did I know I have 22 inch guns and a disappearing birth mark on my right arm. I saw the cover for the first time when I landed after Rome...it was pretty funny...I walked by the newsstand in the airport and did a total double take ...I can barely figure out how to work the red-eye tool on my digital camera...whoever did this has mad skills...maybe Rafael Nadal wants his arms back?...if you can manage to stop laughing at the cover long enough, check out the article inside, the photo shoot on the boat was pretty cool..and I recognize the person in those photos..." Roddick seems pretty good-humored about the whole thing, but really, this is a pretty big violation: Retouching a photo to smooth out some wrinkles is one thing — and done with regularity, obviously — but digitally changing a body part — actually, two — is a completely different story and Men's Fitness definitely knows by now that it's one hulking heavyweight of a no-no. On the cover, no less! More importantly, why does Men's Fitness need to retouch the guns of a world-class athlete? And what does it say about the message it's sending its readers — and whether it can be believed on anything, at all? To whom can readers turn for gun information they can trust? MORE ONLINE

B-DAY: Will Kent Brownridge reenter the magazine business along with Quadrangle Group by winning the bid for the Dennis Publishing trio of titles for sale: Maxim, Stuff and Blender? Media insiders may find out before they hit the beach for the long holiday weekend. Final bids are due today for the three magazines — owner Felix Dennis is holding on to The Week — and speculation has swirled for weeks that ex-Wenner executive Brownridge and Quadrangle will be the party most likely to go the distance. Though it is not known what Quadrangle is expected to bid, one source close to the deal believed its offer could be north of $235 million. Although Quadrangle is said to be the front-runner, others think a dark horse could swoop in and outbid it at the last minute with a monster offer, ? la Rupert Murdoch and his $5 billion bid for The Wall Street Journal. Analysts have put billionaire Ron Burkle in that camp, believing his recent purchase of Primedia's Enthusiast Media titles through his investment firm, Yucaipa Cos., proves he is willing to pay a high price for a complex media property. But at the end of the day, according to both analysts and sources familiar with the deal, the winner won't come down to the highest bidder. The sale depends on whether Felix Dennis, who is said to be looking for $250 million for the titles, accepts any of the offers on the table. GREENER PASTURES: Sometimes the call of the open prairie is enough to draw a magazine editor out of New York City. That's what happened to Alice Kim, who's leaving In Style after a decade to open an accessories store in Omaha. The accessories director at the Time Inc. fashion monthly resigned May 14, but will continue working through midsummer, after which she'll make the big move West. MORE ONLINE

FORTUNE, like other titles in the business magazine category, is reeling on the advertising front, but that's not preventing it from making changes on the editorial side. Managing Editor Andy Serwer, who took over in April, has lured not only the respected Allan Sloan from Newsweek but also Dan Gross from Slate.com. And he's christened Art Director Bob Perino to be the new design director after he served in the role on an interim basis for the past several months. MORE ONLINE

ove her or hate her, Bonnie Fuller is certainly one of the most talked about women in media. She jumped to American Media from Us Weekly nearly four years ago, and has been working to turn supermarket tabloid Star into an Us-style glossy ever since, with mixed results. That sort of turnaround is what Fuller has specialized in for years. She helped launch the big boom in celebrity magazines at Us and previously served as editor of Marie Claire and Glamour. Lately she’s been dogged by some tabloidesque rumors of her own, such as how much longer she’ll stay with American Media and whether the new FX show “Dirt,” starring Courteney Cox as a ruthless tabloid editor, is based on her. But as always with Fuller, you can’t believe everything you hear. Fuller talks to Media Life about her future, the focus of American Media, and of course, Brad and Angelina. Are you star struck? Obviously, yes. I am very interested in celebrities and always have been. I have the same burning questions as everyone else, about Tom and Nicole's relationship and why did Brad and Jen break up. It's impossible to get jaded with celebrities. _Do you know many stars? A few, but not many on a deep personal basis. MORE ONLINE
