******* Bono and Vanity Fair editor in chief Graydon Carter clearly are thinking big when it comes to the magazine's Africa-themed July issue, which is being guest edited by the rock star-philanthropist. While multiple covers on magazine issues have become almost standard, Carter told The New York Times in March that he was out to do more than ever. How many more? Not five, not 10 — sources close to the title said it could publish as many as 20 different covers, all shot by Annie Leibovitz. Though it is not known who or what the covers will be, sources believe they will reflect Africa and its supporters in some way. A spokeswoman for the magazine declined to comment on the covers. The effort is part of what Bono told The New York Times in the same March article is his goal of making the July issue "a best-selling issue of Vanity Fair, I want to make a hit record." And insiders say Bono has been extremely hands-on throughout his tenure — editing story drafts and headlines and even giving feedback on photography. He's also been very vocal about stories he supports. Insiders describe him as a pleasure to work with, as well as smart and down-to-earth. Perhaps it helps that this isn't the first guest-editing gig he's had: Bono performed similar duties at The Independent in London and the French newspaper Lib?ration. MORE ONLINE

This week's crop of magazines are an effective reminder that women have libidos too - and know how to use them. Glamour is the savviest of the "pretty girl" magazines, selling self-acceptance alongside fashion faux pas, celebrity gossip and real-life melodrama. For all its allure, the magazine's true claim to fame is its "dos and don'ts" column. This guilty pleasure delivers 25 definitive don'ts ranging from crazy tan lines to above-the-crotch minis. A tabloid-like cover story on one woman's escape from a polygamous marriage reads more like a Lifetime movie than HBO's "Big Love" but it's still hard to put down. Cosmo, which bills itself as the No. 1 women's magazine, gets steamy this month with a Jessica Biel cover and a screaming headline that leads to an article about the secrets of male arousal. There's also a guide to gratification - complete with diagrams - and a list of questions women have to ask themselves before tying the knot. MORE ONLINE

Like executives at advertising agencies, Richard D. Beckman and his team talk to managers at consumer brand companies about the customers they want to reach. Four to six weeks later, they present a marketing and advertising plan. But Mr. Beckman does not run an advertising agency. He is the president of the Cond? Nast Media Group, a division of the magazine company that publishes titles like Vogue, Wired and The New Yorker. Over the last five years, Mr. Beckman has developed an agencylike business within Cond? Nast’s ad sales unit, generating new revenue by planning events for advertisers and creating advertisements that help sell more magazine pages. Traditionally, magazine companies have made money by selling ad space in their magazines or, more recently, on their Web sites. Now some of them have set up what amount to internal miniagencies that work with clients to design campaigns for their own pages. Sometimes this work spills out into other forums, like radio and television ads. MORE ONLINE
4. Jossip
Regarding that rumor of Neal Boulton running around LA filming a reality show, the ousted Men’s Fitness editor himself writes in to clear things up. Perhaps I can set the jossip record straight. I have been in LA for days–not walking around New York being filmed by a camera crew. And I am neither in, nor want to be in, any kind of reality show. You did publish one accurate thing though, no one would recognize me, or give enough of a shit to stop me if they did, so perhaps it was Tom Cruise your little tattle saw. So there you have it: Neal is not filming a reality show, nor is he famous enough to be recognized on the street. MORE ONLINE
