******* INTERN PARTY TOMORROW! ******************* Seeing all the fesh-faced interns huddled by the photocopier makes Ed nostalgic for his own whippersnapper-y youth, so help him relive the good times at the sixth annual Welcome to NYC Intern Party. He's throwing it in your honor on TUESDAY, JUNE 12 at the Boat Basin Cafe (West 79th Street at the Hudson River-detailed directions at www.ed2010.com/events) from 6:30-8:30pm. All interns, friends-o-interns, and Ed lovers welcome. PS: Free cupcakes!
******* Just about every major magazine has made some sort of nod to global warming, and Rolling Stone plans to do so in its June 28 issue: on top of the requisite interview with former Vice President Al Gore and an essay by the environmentalist Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the magazine will start printing on paper that is said to have less of a negative impact on the environment. But as Rolling Stone and others try to be green, they draw criticism from environmentalists who think that if this is walking the walk, it is doing so with a pronounced limp. Rolling Stone will be printed on what it calls “carbon neutral paper,” because it is made through a process that the magazine claims adds no carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. The paper, which is considerably thinner than what Rolling Stone uses now, is made by a Canadian mill, Catalyst Paper, that the magazine says has reduced greenhouse-gas emissions by 82 percent since 2005 and been cited by the World Wildlife Fund for its conservation efforts. When the July issue of Vanity Fair hits newsstands tomorrow, those hungry for news and gossip about the British royal family may find sustenance in the magazine’s excerpt from “The Diana Chronicles,” Tina Brown’s evocation of the life and times of the Princess of Wales. But will the 8,200-word excerpt prove the literary equivalent of an amuse-bouche, something to tide eager readers over until they can get their hands on the book, which comes out the same day? Or will those who plow through the article feel as if they have had their fill? “The goal of any excerpt is to engage readers, to suggest that here is a book that will interest them,” said Paul Bogaards, executive director of publicity for the Knopf Publishing Group. “But the key is not to sate them with the material. You want the hunger and thirst to still be there.” MORE ONLINE

Maybe you love celebrities so much you want to be friends with them. Maybe you feel kindly toward them -- protective, even. Maybe you feel bad for them when they're abused by the media. And maybe you think that there should be a home for battered celebrities -- a sort of haven. Well, there already is, and it's for sale. Real-estate developer Peter Brant, you may have heard, is looking to get out of the celebrity-coddling business by divesting himself of Interview magazine. MORE ONLINE
