What the Elle? & Another Warning
By Stephanie D. Smith & Amy Wicks

http://www.wwd.com/memopad/article/118380

With news of Owen Wilson's attempted suicide blaring across gossip columns and Web sites since Monday, one outlet that won't be running a story of his troubles is Elle. Jezebel.com reported Monday the magazine had recently wrapped an interview with Wilson. But Roberta Myers, Elle's editor in chief, confirmed to WWD exclusively the Q&A slated for its December Hollywood issue was killed.

"Obviously the circumstances have changed significantly," said Myers. "When we were to be on the newsstand with the story, it would have been quite dated. Obviously, he's not going to update it for us. Out of respect for his privacy and anything he is going through, we're not going to run the piece." A spokeswoman for Wilson had no comment.

ANOTHER WARNING: American Media Inc. appears to have hit yet another financial pothole. In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said its previously issued financial statements in its annual report for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2006, and quarterly reports, ending June 30, 2006, Sept. 30, 2006, and Dec. 31, 2006, "should no longer be relied upon, because the company omitted footnote disclosure containing condensed consolidating financial information." AMI said it will include this footnote information in its annual report for the year ended March 31, 2007. For what it's worth, the publisher said it expects to file this report no later than Friday.

CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- MSNBC.com and CondeNast's online arm CondeNet said Wednesday that they've formed a partnership that will allow MSNBC.com to feature content from such publications as Style.com, Vanity Fair, GQ, Vogue and Glamour. The content will be seen in MSNBC.com's health, entertainment, business, travel and Today sections. Danny DeFreitas, deputy editor of sections at MSNBC.com, said CondeNet's "impressive portfolio of leading brands" would help drive increased readership at the portal. For its part, CondeNet hopes to "connect more passionate readers with" its brands, said Elizabeth Stafford, vice president of marketing at CondeNe

3. Mr Magazine
And they say teens don’t read
By Samir Husni

http://mrmagazine.wordpress.com/2007/08/28/and-they-say-teens-dont-read/

News from the Big Apple that Teen Vogue magazine is raising its rate base to 950,000 from the current level of 900,000. Teen Vogue was launched in 2003 with a rate base of 450,000. This new rate, effective Feb. 2008, represents an increase of 111% since the magazine was started. Today’s news comes on the heel of rumors that Cond? Nast was ready to shut down Teen Vogue. The rate increase, announced by Vice President and Publisher Gina Sanders, is the best response I’ve seen yet to a rumor of magazine closure. It is amazing how many proofs the prophets of doom and gloom need to accept the fact that teens read and read a lot if the content is relevant to their needs, wants and desires. Shoving something down their throat that is not relevant to them and wondering why they don’t read it is a completely different story.

Deloitte & Touche launches business magazine
By Lauren Bell

http://www.dmnews.com/cms/dm-sectors/media-publishing/42255.html

Deloitte & Touche USA, the business advisory firm, launched a biannual periodical Deloitte Review on Monday. Appearing simultaneously online and in print, the inaugural issue focuses on the defining tasks that can make or break a company.

Deloitte Review is written largely by senior executives at Deloitte, but Review editor in chief Jon Warshowsky insists that the magazine is not an advertisement for the firm.

“In terms of content, we’re trying to share topics that different parts of Deloitte have expertise in. For example, there’s a mergers and acquisitions piece in this issue,” Warshowsky said. “We are desperately steering clear of the types of articles you’d see in sales pieces.”
