******* The November issue of W is out now, giving readers interested in other people's messy divorces the opportunity to put in their two cents. Or their $4.50, as it were The magazine is publishing two separate covers -- one with Jennifer Aniston and one featuring Angelina Jolie. It's about as tacky as a fashion mag can get. Is Richard Spencer’s double duty at In Touch and Life & Style costing the two Bauer tabloids their singular identities? Critics are quick to say “absolutely.” Naturally! Not only are both magazines running very similar content and storylines, but there are also instances of the weeklies having their cake and inhaling it too, by supporting a celeb in one rag and trashing him in the other. “They’re definitely trying to have it both ways,” says one veteran staffer at a competing tabloid. And when they run “what’s basically the same story in both magazines, they look cheap.” Well, they are only $1.99. MORE ONLINE

The executive exits continue at Vibe Media Group: Len Burnett, vp, group publisher of Vibe, has resigned after three years in the position. Burnett will return to Uptown, a lifestyle magazine targeting affluent black consumers that he co-founded in 2004 with Brett Wright. Burnett was on his second tour with the magazine, having been associate publisher when it began in 1993. Four months ago, Burnett got a new boss when Steve Aaron became CEO of the company, succeeding Eric Gertler. Aaron shut down Vibe’s female counterpart and one of Burnett’s areas of oversight, Vibe Vixen, as a standalone magazine with August/September. The company has undergone plenty of turnover since the private-equity firm Wicks Group of Companies took it over in July 2006; other departures include an editor in chief and two presidents. Now that most publishers have websites to go with their print magazines, some are already beginning to anticipate a day when those web plays collect more cash than their ink-on-paper parents. "If it keeps going at this rate," said one editor of a regional title, "you will see the revenue of the website, probably in two years, exceed the revenue of the print side." But advertisers, youth consultants and some publishers say nothing of the sort will be automatic for teen sites based on print titles. MORE ONLINE

Nast Portfolio (May 2007) have become household names, and multimedia has become a household word. For the following two days, there will be panels/presentations on digital/integrated marketing/magazines and tv/magazines and the Internet/magazines and mobile...you get the drift. All potentially valuable, as will Monday (October 29) lunch keynoter being the recently installed Chrysler chairman/ceo Bob Nardelli (ex-Home Depot), who would serve a feast for publishers were he to announce a 2008 spending increase for a category that has weakened significantly over the past two years. Look for politics, chefs, fitness, and cigars (How's that for an oxymoron?) on the AMC plate, too, and for more details, log onto the Magazine Publishers of America's MAGAZINE.ORG. Cond?Net has in recent months attracted new users to several of its sites while beefing up ad inventory--all on Facebook’s dime. The Web arm of magazine giant Cond? Nast has been one of the more aggressive publishers in embracing Facebook’s open-door policy for outside developers and is among the first to incorporate ads into a handful of viral applications on the hot social-networking site. Last May, Facebook opened up its network to virtually anyone looking to create and distribute mini programs via its site; users can attach those programs to their personal profiles and share them with others. The programs range from basic utilities that help users locate friends, to silly applications that allow users to virtually “punch” their buddies. MORE ONLINE
