******* THE eagles have landed. Two refugees from the shrinking Felix Dennis print empire have been hired at heavy.com, a broadband video Web site for young guys in the 15-to-35-year-old demographic. Former Maxim editor-in-chief Jimmy Jellinek, who also toiled at the top of Stuff magazine, is going to be the vice president of entertainment at heavy.com. He'll be reunited with former Stuff publisher John Lumpkin, who is the new senior vice president of strategic sales and partnerships. He starts Dec. 10. MORE ONLINE

Award-winning actress Scarlett Johansson has reached out to OK! to clear the air regarding tabloid reports that she has had plastic surgery on her nose.? "US Weekly's cover story regarding Scarlett Johansson and its clear implication that she has had plastic or cosmetic surgery on her nose is an outrageous and defamatory fabrication lacking any conceivable basis or proof, despite vehement denials by Ms. Johansson prior to publication," reads a statement from her rep, exclusively to OK!. "Not surprisingly, US magazine cannot provide the dates when she supposedly had this surgery, who performed the surgery, or what was supposedly done — all because there simply is no truth to the story. The publication made a pathetic attempt to validate its story by using two cover photos of Scarlett that were taken years apart with obviously different make-up and lighting, and then relying on an "expert’s opinion” (based solely on looking at the two photos) on what "might" have been done. It wasn't." And Scarlett herself has this to say to OK!:??"I have always been straightforward with the press regarding my body image and I am very concerned that my fans (and perhaps even my employers) will feel mislead. Thus, I feel compelled to take immediate legal action against US Weekly." MORE ONLINE

Reader’s Digest Association has kicked off the effort to polish its heartland food titles as it starts to sell ads into them for the first time, starting with its biggest, Taste of Home. Yet while modernizing Taste of Home’s look, RDA was careful to stick to the reader-generated formula that has governed it since its launch in 1993. The bimonthly’s signature was the smorgasbord-filled food images that dominated the cover and inside photo spreads. They are simplified with the new design, which appears with the December/January issue on sale Dec. 6. The revamp also reinforces the reader-driven nature with two new features. Cooks who Care highlights a reader who does food-related deeds for her community, while a star icon designates the magazines’ heavy recipe contributors. MORE ONLINE

H Bauer, the publisher of Take A Break and TV Choice, is contemplating a late tilt at Emap’s magazine and radio divisions, as the first bids for the component parts of the British publishing group began to arrive yesterday. The emergence of Bauer as a contender boosts Emap’s chances of achieving a successful break-up and sale, as it increases the level of competition for the Heat and Closer consumer magazine business. The only trade bidder for the consumer magazines was believed to be Hearst, the owner of Cosmopolitan and Esquire, which has been working with Exponent Private Equity. The consumer magazines are valued at around ?700 million and are considered to be the hardest part of the group to sell. Quadrangle and TPG, the private equity firms, have also eyed the unit. Forget the iron wall of publishing between advertising and editorial. At Nylon, the wall appears to be made more of, well, nylon. Marvin Scott Jarrett, Nylon's editor in chief, spoke during a roundtable for the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund Tuesday, where he told more than 100 FIT students what no journalism school ever would: "I think of advertisers as investors investing in my vision, and it's hard not to take people who don't support your magazine in a different breath," he said. "I run a fashion-entertainment magazine, where it's not church and state. To me, it's one big church." REPLACEMENT: Andrew Bevan will join Teen Vogue as associate editor in January. Bevan will take over the "Style Blogger" column from former senior editor Kimball Hastings, and will oversee the magazine's "Talking Fashion" and "People Watching" pages. Bevan will also pen features on style and celebrities. Prior to joining Teen Vogue, Bevan freelanced for Vogue's entertainment section. Meanwhile, Hastings today will start his new position as director of celebrity dressing at Ralph Lauren. MORE ONLINE
