Ed totally rocked out in his ugly sweater last night. Also, he's obsessed with this make-your-own-digital-ugly-sweater website: http://weloveholidaysweaters.wehatesheep.com/

F+W Publications has shuttered five magazines under its Wisconsin-based Krause Publications division, FOLIO: has learned. The titles include Antiques and Collectibles Journal, Comics & Games Retailer, Toy Cars & Models, Toy Shop and Vintage Motorcycles, the publisher confirmed.

F+W made the announcement to employees earlier this month in an internal memo. As many as 40 employees have been laid off, a source tells FOLIO:, although another source put the number closer to 15. F+W declined to confirm the number of layoffs.

"We take into consideration the marketplace we serve and the opportunities available for each of our magazine titles. After much analysis and deliberation, we have determined to cease publication of these underperforming tittles," chairman and CEO David Steward stated in an e-mail to FOLIO:.

It?s ?Putin,? not ?You,? in 2007. Time magazine unveiled its perennially-hyped ?Person of the Year? today. That person? Vladimir Putin.

The Russian president beat out Al Gore, J.K. Rowling, world leaders such as Hugo Chavez and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and ?Mother Earth??NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams? choice?for the honor. The announcement was made by Time managing editor Richard Stengel on the Today show.

Putin was chosen "for an extraordinary feat of leadership in taking a country that was in chaos and bringing it stability,? Stengel said. Last year, the magazine was criticized?and equally applauded?for its selection of ?You? as Person of the Year.

Martha Stewart Taps Publisher to Do Double Duty

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is into being efficient these days, naming Amy Wilkins publisher of Everyday Food, the company's digest-size food magazine; Ms. Wilkins continues as senior VP-publisher of Martha Stewart Weddings. The appointment plugs a hole created last month when Mary Berner, president-CEO of the Reader's Digest Association, poached Anne Balaban to be publisher of Every Day With Rachael Ray. It also fills a position whose importance grew last week after MSLO made the surprise decision to shut down Blueprint magazine after its January/February issue. The company's main revenue sources are magazine advertising, online advertising and licensing.

Ms. Wilkins joined MSLO in February 2007 from Meredith Corp., where she was publisher of Country Home magazine and, before that, Better Homes and Gardens.
