******* Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia continues to trim its sails, with another round of layoffs quietly taking place on Tuesday. People at the company said that among the casualties were Robb Riedel, managing editor working on book projects, and Wendy Mure, brand development director at Everyday Food. There was also talk of a half-dozen people being eliminated in the art and marketing departments, and possibly at Weddings, though it could not be confirmed at press time. "Nobody can get anything done," complained one MSLO employee. "Every day, it's, 'Is it a work day or a firing day?'" Meanwhile, MSLO chief executive officer Susan Lyne took her first day back from vacation, Monday, as an opportunity to respond to a report in the New York Post that she might not renew her contract. "Nothing could be further from my plans," she wrote in an e-mail to employees. "I love this company; more importantly, I believe in the company. We made a big investment in our future this past year — an investment that will start paying off in 2008 — and I want to be here to see that growth. I also know just how lucky I am to work with all of you. We have the best teams in New York at MSLO — bar none." MORE ONLINE

Richard Desmond's Northern & Shell, the owner of OK! magazine, is suing rival celebrity magazine Heat, claiming copyright infringement over an exclusive interview with Britney Spears' pregnant sister. Northern & Shell said Heat had quoted extensively from the OK! interview, in which 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears revealed she was going to have a baby. Heat, owned by Emap and in the process of being sold to German group H Bauer, did not credit OK! as the source of the quotes and even claimed its story was exclusive, according to Northern & Shell.
