******* Since its inception in 1999, Blender magazine has tried to distinguish itself as an alternative to the Rolling Stone establishment of rock journalism. Now it appears to be following Rolling Stone in blurring the advertising-editorial line. In its January-February issue, Blender published the “2008 Rock & Roll User’s Guide,” a 16-page new music preview sponsored by Sync, Microsoft’s in-car voice-activated technology. In it, a small logo that reads "Presented by Sync/Powered by Microsoft" appears on five of the section’s 10 editorial pages, with the other six pages devoted to Sync-related ads. Four of those logos ask readers to log onto fordvehicles.com/sync for free MP3 downloads. MORE ONLINE

THERE is more turmoil at the magazine home of Rachael Ray. Two more top-level execs have resigned from the Reader's Digest Association-owned Every Day with Rachael Ray. Executive Editor Maile Carpenter resigned last week - just in time to go on her honeymoon with Wylie Dufresne, something of a celebrity chef at his restaurant WD-50. MORE ONLINE

Jewish feminists are criticizing Ms. magazine for refusing to run a full-page advertisement submitted by the American Jewish Congress that features three prominent Israeli women. Calling the decision "contemptible" and "hostile" toward Israel, the women — some of whom helped to found the feminist magazine — said that the decision seemed to be motivated by anti-Israel sentiment among the publication's staff and its readers. The advertisement, which includes the words "This is Israel," features photographs of the president of Israel's Supreme Court, Dorit Beinisch; Israel's foreign minister, Tzipi Livni, and the speaker of the Knesset, Dalia Itzik. "It breaks my heart to have to recognize that the magazine that taught the world about the power and possibilities of women has banned an ad featuring women at the height of political power because they are Israeli," Francine Klagsbrun, the editor of "Free to Be … You and Me," and "The First Ms. Reader," a compilation of articles published in Ms., said. Post has been vacant since early November when Peggy Northrup left to go to Reader’s Digest, and, today, More has finally filled its EIC position with Lesley Jane Seymour. The ex-YM/Redbook/Marie Claire editor-in-chief had been teaching a seven-week master’s-level course in publishing last Fall at New York University. Seymour's More connection includes a recent article for the October issue. "I am beyond thrilled," Seymour tells minonline. "More is my life personally, and now it is professionally. Cond? Nast Portfolio has been quietly building its www.Portfolio.com ad-supported website with an emphasis on audience quality vs. size, although the site now boasts somewhere between 900,000 and 1.7 million unique monthly visitors, depending whether you believe data provided by comScore (871,000), Nielsen NetRatings (1.26 million) or the publisher (1.7 million). While these numbers are dwarfed by CNN Money and Forbes.com, both of which claim more than ten times the traffic, Portfolio.com is less than six months old and Portfolio.com general manager Ari Brandt points out "we all want to accommodate our advertisers but when you have 15 or 20 million users your demographics become diluted. The high concentration of senior level executives that many advertisers are looking for just isn't there." PARAGRAPH 3 MORE ONLINE
