******* Sales of US Weekly and a new competitor, OK! Weekly, climbed sharply in the second half of 2007, even as a round of price increases contributed to an unusual drop in overall sales of celebrity magazines, according to a report released Monday. Women?s magazines also lost ground while food magazines gained, notably Every Day With Rachael Ray, according to the semiannual report by the Audit Bureau of Circulations. Over all, magazine circulation changed little ? in contrast to the steadily declining sales of newspapers ? as major categories like newsweekly, sports, business and finance, and shelter magazines all held steady. US Weekly?s circulation gained 10 percent from the same period in 2006, to more than 1.9 million, despite an increase in its newsstand price last fall. The perennial leader among celebrity magazines, People, remained far ahead, at 3.6 million, down 3.5 percent after a price increase. MORE ONLINE

HERE, THERE, EVERYWHERE: Hearst Magazines is continuing its tear into the digital world. Hearst Magazines Digital Media, a unit of the magazine division, has joined the global Nokia Media Network, which will allow Hearst advertisers to place ads on Web pages and other Nokia properties that reach more than 100 million mobile consumers around the world. By joining the network, Hearst said it will become the largest U.S. magazine publisher in mobile content. Mobile brands that will participate include m.cosmopolitan.com, m.cosmogirl.com, m.esquire.com, m.goodhousekeeping.com, m.housebeautiful.com, m.seventeen.com, m.redbookmag.com, m.marieclaire.com and m.bazaar.com. In addition to Hearst, Reuters and Sprint are also involved in the network. CONTROVERSY AS PART OF THE MARKETING PLAN: There's a new addition to Kim Kardashian's existing celebutante repertoire, which already includes gossip column staple and reality TV fixture: she's the face of a new Bongo Jeans ad campaign. NOT FOR THE ARTICLES: Sports Illustrated's annual homage to the female form ? in swimsuits ? will hit newsstands today and likely have every male adolescent around rushing to buy it (or view the pictures on the Internet). Swimsuit editor Diane Smith said this year's issue has swimsuits from brands such as La Perla, Badgley Mischka and Perry Ellis. The issue features a $14 million Ponahalo diamond necklace, shot on model Irina in St. Petersburg, Russia. Curvaceous Heidi Klum was shot with a hunk of a different kind, Will Ferrell, in Los Angeles for a "Seventies, tongue-in-cheek kind of shoot," she added. The issue, which has a rate base of 4.5 million (Sports Illustrated's rate base is 3.15 million) will be on newsstands until May. MORE ONLINE

The latest figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations were released this morning, and, as expected, a number of high profile consumer magazines took a big hit in overall circulation while others saw a precipitous drop at the newsstand. Among the top 25 magazines in terms of total paid and verified circulation, only AARP (both the magazine and the AARP Bulletin) showed an increase of more than two percent over the second half of 2006. Time (-17.57%) Playboy (-10.04%) and Reader?s Digest (-7.64%) all showed significant drops in overall circulation._ In terms of single copy sales, seven of the top 10 showed decreases in sales in the last six months of 2007 versus the previous year, with Glamour (down 13.24%) taking the biggest hit. American Media Inc.?s National Enquirer (-15.25%) and Good Housekeeping (-20.71%) also saw significant declines among the top 25 magazines sold at the newsstand. Even Every Day with Rachael Ray, one of the industry?s most heralded launches in recent memory, struggled to match its 2006 success, with its single copy sales dipping 6.37 percent. MORE ONLINE

Maxim magazine owner Alpha Media yesterday named Glenn Rosenbloom as president, after earlier ousting Maxim Publisher Rob Gregory. Rosenbloom joins Alpha, formerly known as Dennis Publishing, from Walt Disney Co.'s magazine group, Buena Vista Publishing. It is a new position at Alpha, whose titles also include music mag Blender. One of Rosenbloom's first tasks will be to hire a replacement for Gregory. He will also oversee integrating sales and marketing across the company - a tricky job given Alpha's history of intramural rivalries between the magazines and Web sites. MORE ONLINE
