The International Association for Counterterrorism & Security Professionals today issued a cease and desist notice to the publishers of a soon-to-launch counterterrorism magazine, claiming that the new magazine's title is confusingly similar to theirs. "They haven't published yet, but they have called some of our advertisers who have since called me back a bit confused," IACSP director of operations Steve Fustero says of The Counter Terrorist: The Official Journal of the Homeland Security Professional. The IACSP's flagship publication is called Counter Terrorism: The Journal of Counterterrorism & Homeland Security International. The new magazine is published by Miami-based Security Solutions International—a group that develops and delivers counter terrorism training for first responders in the U.S. and abroad. The magazine is slated to launch in April. MORE ONLINE

When Mary Berner assumed leadership of Reader’s Digest Association one year ago, she pledged to find new ways to address advertiser needs. Since then, the company has started selling ads in its subscription-based food titles and ramped up cross-sales efforts across all its food-related businesses. Now, the publisher has added another ingredient it hopes will tempt advertisers. Under a deal with kiosk operator ShoptoCook, RDA will become exclusive provider of recipes and cooking tips via the vendor’s hundreds of supermarket kiosks, drawing from such properties as Every Day With Rachael Ray, Taste of Home and Allrecipes.com. The pact also gives RDA exclusive rights to sell integrated advertising through the kiosks. Positioned in the meat and produce sections of more than 200 supermarket chains including Brookshires and Schnucks, the machines allow shoppers to look up and print recipes and coupons. MORE ONLINE

TALENT RAIDER: NEWLY appointed Blender editor Joe Levy is poaching from his former boss at Rolling Stone magazine, Jann Wenner. Page Six has learned that Levy has made his first hire as Blender honcho from his prior stomping grounds. Rob Sheffield, who wrote the PopLife column for RS, has joined his former colleague at the competition and will write a monthly column for Blender starting in June. UNDISCOVERED PROMISE: GERARD Smith, head of ANIBIC, a charity for brain-damaged children, says he still hasn't gotten the free ads that the publisher of Discover magazine promised him after the group honored former publisher Bob Guccione at a dinner. In February, we reported that the glossy hadn't yet run the ads. Now Smith says the publisher, Bill Hostetter, told him he "does not feel charitable" any more. "He suggested to my staff to forget about the three pages and maybe if they felt generous again, they would run a half- page ad at some time of their choosing," said Smith. Hostetter did not return a call for comment. DESIGNER NODS: DESIGNERS Pierre Cardin and Jonathan Adler and Elle D?cor editrix Margaret Russell will be honored by the Savannah College of Art & Design at the French Embassy on Thursday, before such guests as Lee Radziwill, Milos Forman, Kim Garfunkel, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and Anne Tennenbaum Lee, president of the Film Society of Lincoln Center.

The U.K.'s version of Fashion Rocks may rock the house in Britain, but with new owners Melville Capital and now the help of talent agency William Morris, the charitable event plans to expand in scope and scale around the world. (The evening has no relation to the Cond? Nast supplement and concert of the same name.) The organization last week tapped William Morris to facilitate corporate sponsorships, secure talent and develop digital partnerships, which will expand beyond the U.K. in the next few years. "It's about creating a more robust relationship between the event, the digital platform and the talent," said David Taghioff, WMA vice president. "What people love about Fashion Rocks is the fusion between fashion and rock 'n' roll. And celebrity is a big driver online." Fashion Rocks pairs some of the world's major designers with musicians for a concert to raise money for The Prince's Trust, a charitable organization founded by the Prince of Wales to support troubled young people in the U.K. The inaugural event kicked off at London's Royal Albert Hall in 2003, and was held in Monte Carlo in 2005. This year, the concert will return to Royal Albert Hall on Oct. 16. Next spring, Fashion Rocks will be held in Mumbai, India, and the organization is looking to host similar evenings in Moscow, Shanghai, Beijing and Dubai, where the events would benefit local charities in the respective regions. Taghioff also said the organization is looking to spin off related events — for example, a festival-style urban arts event that would reach a larger audience than Fashion Rocks. WMA is currently pursuing digital partnerships for those. Though talent hasn't been revealed for this fall's concert, past participants have included Timbaland, Beyonc?, Mariah Carey, Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana.

Sure, we live in the greatest city on earth, but every now and then we wonder what's happening in other cities. To that end, a gander at namesake magazines from other cities. There's little doubt Los Angeles feels the pulse of Tinseltown, as per its cover package - "LA's 75 Best Restaurants" and "Worth the Sweat: Six Boutique Gyms." The magazine does, however, offer more. One intriguing cover story recounts the family murders tearing apart the proprietors of California's popular Zankou Chicken chain. Plenty of quick takes in several other editorial departments, such as Hollywood buzz (Woody Harrelson says hot food is dead), and style (beaded bags are in).. Beantown will always be obsessed with the Red Sox - win or lose - so predictably, the cover story of Boston magazine trumpets both its hometown team and its hometown TV star John Krasinski. The star of "The Office," dressed in a Sox uniform a la Superman, is the lead character in a cover package of "60 Reasons Boston Rules." It's a nice wrap-up, especially for people who might want to spend more than a day there. The issue's got a good profile of Ned Johnson, the local lad who built the giant Fidelity mutual fund into Boston's last business dynasty. Mostly, the city is a readers' town, and Boston tries hard to deliver. MORE ONLINE 6. GawkerAnderson Cooper 'Passes' On Outing By Nick Denton 4/7/08 http://gawker.com/5005148/anderson-cooper-passes-on-outing Anderson Cooper made the cover of Out Magazine last year—well, a mask bearing his image, at any rate. Aaron Hicklin's Power issue was making the point that the CNN anchor was widely known in media circles to be gay, but avoided any public acknowledgment of his sexuality. The magazine, which ranks Cooper the third most powerful gay in America, tested the silver-haired TV journalist again this year, asking whether he'd pose for the cover. “Thanks for thinking of Anderson for this issue but we are going to pass,” responded his publicist. (After the jump, last year's cover.)

The guy who runs tech security for Cond? Nast has admitted lying to the FBI and lending his services to private detective Anthony Pellicano even though he knew Pellicano was tapping people's phones. He's also been accused, in the course of Pellicano's racketeering and wiretap trial, of leaking a pre-publication copy of Vanity Fair that Pellicano mysteriously obtained, and of bragging about bugging the office of his Cond? Nast supervisor. So why does he still have a job? The Times is asking this morning, and Cond? Nast isn't saying. The only substantive comment anyone at the magazine group would give the Times was concerned Hollywood mogul Michael Ovitz, who was featured and supposedly obtained the pre-publication copy of Vanity Fair. If Cond? Nast executives at waffling on whether to keep the IT guy, Wayne Reynolds, they would be well-advised to read the Huffington Post's account of how he sounded on the stand in the trial of Pellicano, his self-described surrogate father: MORE ONLINE
