******* As magazines in the U.K. face a potential ban on digitally altering celebrity photos, the American Society of Magazine Editors is considering a panel discussion about best-practice guidelines. “ASME is not considering a ban of any kind,” Glamour editor and ASME president Cindi Leive tells FOLIO:. “Given the ubiquity of retouching technology these days—think of brides and their wedding photos—it seems unrealistic to forbid all digital manipulation of photos in any magazine.” But Leive says ASME is considering a panel discussion on the topic. “Readers should never be misled about what they’re looking at.” MORE ONLINE

One day you're in, the next day you're out — Elle fashion director Nina Garcia apparently is taking those very words coined on "Project Runway" to heart. The magazine was said to have parted company with the editor, "Project Runway" star, author and peddler of BlackBerries on Friday, according to sources. Neither Garcia, Elle editor in chief Robbie Myers nor a spokeswoman for the magazine returned calls for comment. Speculation about Garcia's departure has swirled for months, especially after the arrival of Joe Zee at the beginning of 2007 as creative director. Observers questioned how the two would get along, and whether Zee would keep her on board. Last spring, Garcia left the magazine on maternity leave, and began writing a monthly fashion column upon her return in the summer. MORE ONLINE

After 18 years as founding editor of ForbesLife, Christopher Buckley has decided to move into the role of editor at large in order to focus more on his writing. Buckley, the only son of the late William F. Buckley Jr. and socialite Patricia Buckley, could not be reached Friday. Gary Walther has been tapped as the new editor of ForbesLife. Previously, he was one of the founding editors of Departures and former editor of Luxury SpaFinder. Meredith Kopit will oversee ForbesLife and ForbesLife Executive Woman, replacing new venture capitalist Jack Laschever.

During the next year or so, Cond? Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure are planning big changes to their Web sites. Traveler is launching its own site and could completely break away from Concierge.com, although a spokesman said it's too early to predict what will happen. A new site could come later this year, or during the first quarter of next year. American Express Publishing's Travel + Leisure is planning a redesign, although a spokeswoman declined to provide details. Meanwhile, both sites may be facing a little extra competition for those highly sought-after luxury travel ad dollars from competitors such as Globorati, a luxury travel news site that will relaunch on Tuesday. The site is from editor in chief (and Cond? Nast Traveler contributing editor) Mark Jolly and was originally launched as a blog in January. The new version will not only provide breaking news (like it did in the past) but also provide the tools necessary to visit a given luxury destination. "This [luxury travel] is the fastest growing segment in the travel industry," Jolly said. He has roughly a dozen writers that will contribute, as well as senior editor Nicole Cotroneo, a regular contributor to The New York Times and The Washington Post travel section. Publisher Michael Rovner, formerly of Us Weekly and Stuff, said current advertisers include Silverjet and Singapore Tourism.

Amy Gross is retiring as the longtime editor of O, The Oprah Magazine, a spokesperson there confirmed. Gross, 65, whose retirement was first reported by the New York Post, won’t be leaving immediately; she plans to stay on until a replacement is found. Gross is the magazine’s second editor, taking over the post eight years ago from Ellen Kunes shortly after Hearst Magazines and Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Print launched what would become a hugely successful women’s lifestyle magazine. Since its launch, the title has raised its rate base nine times, reaching 2.35 million in January 2007. In 2001, Gross and Winfrey shared AdweekMedia’s Editor of the Year honor. While the title remains a giant in terms of circulation and ad pages, its growth has slowed lately. Newsstand sales stood at 862,303 in 2007, down from a high of 1.03 million in 2005. Total paid and verified circ rose 0.9 percent to 2.4 million in the second half of 2007, per the Audit Bureau of Circulations. Year to date through May, a generally soft time for the industry, O’s ad pages declined 5.8 percent to 752, per Mediaweek Monitor. MORE ONLINE

Continuing an effort to increase its green-focused content, Women’s Health is teaming up with the Environmental Media Association to launch awareness-raising, celebrity-studded events and introducing a new column with Alexandra Cousteau, called In Focus Planet, with the July/August issue. WH hopes that owning the green space will help it appeal to a wide range of advertisers (event sponsors Keen Footwear and Aveda are new clients). The goal also is to help the Rodale title grow by increasing its involvement with celebrities both in and out of book and thus grow its reach with influencer women. Don’t expect to see stars on the cover, though; WH editor Tina Johnson said the magazine would stick with using fit and trim models.

For running fanatics, traveling is part of the racing experience. By connecting the two, Runner’s World broke new airline business with a multiplatform deal for JetBlue Airways. The Rodale title launched a Web site called welcomerunners.com where runners can find training resources hosted by Runner’s World expert Bart Yasso, and book flights. The campaign also includes ads in print, quarterly sweepstakes, and sponsorships of weekend racing seminars at major marathons. “There’s a resurgence in people who want to experience places in their running,” explained Andy Hersam, vp, publishing director, Runner’s World. It appears that Nina Garcia has parted ways with Elle. According to company-wide speculation at Hachette Filipacchi Media, buzz built late Friday that the talented fashion director had resigned. Garcia's contract was up for renewal this month. Neither Elle editor in chief Robbie Myers nor a spokeswoman for Elle could be immediately reached for comment. Garcia, reached for comment, neither confirmed nor denied the rumor. "I have not heard anything," she said. MORE ONLINE

While it's true that Garcia is no longer fashion director at Elle, an inside source at the magazine says the Project Runway judge turned author is "still in negotiations" with the powers that be at the magazine. An announcement could come as early as Monday. The end of Garcia's tenure as fashion director seems to have been foreshadowed by the arrival of Joe Zee, Elle's creative director. Following in the path Garcia forged as editor-turned-reality star, Zee is slated to be the magazine's newest editor-turned-television personality. He and fashion news director Anne Slowey are wrapping production on their first season of Perfect Fit, Elle's sophomore reality television effort that will air later this year on the CW. MORE ONLINE
