******* ntana) is joining the dreaded ranks of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears with her own mini photo-scandal. But the clean-cut popette, while reportedly horrifying parents and fans around the country, has also – unsurprisingly — seen her online profile skyrocket online. The 15-year-old churchgoing star of Disney’s lucrative “Hannah Montana” franchise has issued apologies for sets of photos in which she flashes her bra, lies on a boy’s lap and appears in a supposedly racy Vanity Fair photo spread. Bra-gate was launched last week when photos of her green bra and the oh-so-comprising lap-sitting incident flashed like wildfire across the net. The Vanity Fair photos – in which she appears to be topless but is wrapped in a blanket (only her back is exposed) – were shot by uber-photog and no stranger to controversy herself, Annie Liebovitz. Cyrus and Disney quickly issued statements that basically accused the magazine and Liebovitz of manipulating the young, innocent Cyrus. MORE ONLINE

Nina Garcia was spotted leaving the Hearst Tower on West 57th Street earlier this afternoon, conspicuously avoiding eye contact with passersby as she ducked into a cab headed home. This latest tidbit in the ongoing Garcia versus Elle saga only further fuels the rumor that her future at Hachette, where she was recently let go as fashion director following a 13-year tenure, might very well be short-lived. When reached for comment, Garcia, who is said to be in negotiations with Elle over a possible editor-at-large title (which would only keep her on through September), downplayed any speculation that she is mulling a possible position at Hearst, though she did admit, without giving any details, that she was doing some "freelance work." "I was in the Heart Tower's Caf? 57 perusing," she confirmed. "I was meeting with friends. It's an incredibly beautiful building." Could Garcia be revisiting her relationship with Harper's Bazaar? Back in July 2005, Fashion Week Daily reported that Garcia was being aggressively courted by Glenda Bailey to replace outgoing fashion market director Amanda Ross. Garcia was said to have been offered a director's position at the title, but she ultimately stayed put. Garcia, who declined comment on this story in 2005, reiterated the same sentiment when reached by phone today. A Bazaar rep did not return a call seeking comment. The Garcia sighting was first reported on Fashionista.com. MORE ONLINE

Tom Brokaw kicked off his moderation of a Vanity Fair green panel Monday night with "a couple of announcements. There will be no flashes of green underpants, nor will we be photographed with silk sheets." (It was unclear whether Brokaw wholly intended the triple entendre, being at a green panel held by a magazine under siege for racy photos of Miley Cyrus, of whom photos earlier surfaced flashing a lime green bra.) The panel included Google's Eric Schmidt, PayPal founder and green entrepreneur Elon Musk, architect William McDonough and Sustainable Bronx's Majora Carter. That Carter was the only woman and the only person of color on the panel didn't escape her attention. "I'm here to represent the 'green the ghetto' contingent," she cracked. Schmidt, speaking of Google's green efforts — including enlisting McDonough to build more environmentally friendly offices — insisted: "It's not that hard" to make adjustments that have serious impact on sustainability. EW FINDS ITS MAN: Brian Anstey was named Entertainment Weekly's design director. Anstey succeeds Geraldine Hessler, who left earlier this month. Managing editor Rick Tetzeli sent a memo to the staff late Wednesday night, describing Anstey as "a strong leader and a great collaborator, and he's got a bucket of editorial ideas and a deep passion for this magazine. Plus, at [The University of] Iowa he designed a poster of Diablo Cody for the college radio station, so he must have always been destined for this gig!" Anstey, who was previously an art director at the weekly magazine, has served as acting design director since Hessler's departure. FLAT IS OK: Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. is in the market for "appropriate acquisitions," Susan Lyne, president and chief executive officer, said Tuesday — although she didn't say what or in what sector. On a conference call with analysts as the company reported first-quarter results, Lyne also talked about the publishing division, which had essentially flat revenues in the quarter compared with the prior year — $40.8 million versus $40.6 million. But excluding the shuttered Blueprint from the picture, the increase would have been 4 percent. Operating income rose to $1.7 million from $1.3 million and the company predicts ad revenues will finish the second quarter up in the midsingle digits. Like its competitors, the company is hoping to further diversify its ad categories to minimize the impact of a significant downturn in any one sector. Wenda Harris Millard, president, media, pointed to beauty, travel, technology and consumer electronics and pet supplies as "growing sectors" for the balance of the year. She added that there is very limited visibility past June with advertising since the marketing community is making deals later than usual. MORE ONLINE
