TELLING ALL — AT LEAST ABOUT THE FACE

Plastic surgery may be a well-trod topic in women's magazines, but that doesn't mean their editors are volunteering how much of it they've had. So More editor in chief Lesley Jane Seymour can hope to make at least a small splash with an unretouched photo and some very detailed credits: "Highlights to cover gray by Rita Hazan...strong arms from working out every morning, Botox (yes!) and collagen by Dr. Pat Wexler."

That's alongside a story in the June issue about women's reluctance to admit to plastic surgery — Seymour's idea, natch. "Everyone [on staff] said, 'We can't talk about plastic surgery, the reader's totally natural,'" Seymour, the former editor in chief of Marie Claire and Redbook, told WWD. "Then I went into the research and found out that our reader is 300 percent more likely to have had a beauty procedure than any other 40 year old."

The More that was created under Peggy Northrop (who decamped for Reader's Digest) is also getting, well, a facelift: It's hunting for a creative director to replace Maxine Davidowitz for a planned October redesign, there's a new beauty column and a monthly style icon profile that kicks off with Diane von Furstenberg. Earlier this spring, Seymour hired Judith Coyne, formerly of Good Housekeeping, as executive editor, and Regina Haymes, who worked for her at Marie Claire, as fashion director.

Forbes Launches Peer-to-Peer Social Network

Forbes.com has joined the growing list of business magazine Web sites to launch a social network. But unlike BusinessWeek, which partnered in March with professional networking site LinkedIn, Forbes has deployed its own, “robust” infrastructure supported by networking technology from company Cisco for the launch of the AnswerNetwork.

“Forbes.com launched the AnswerNetwork to create a deeper relationship among users through an exclusive community, where Forbes.com users can share and gain information on a personal level and network with other users,” Mike Smith, Forbes.com’s senior vice president and general manager of operations, wrote to FOLIO: in an email.

AnswerNetwork is geared towards senior business decision-makers and allows them to share and obtain answers to questions through live peer-to-peer interaction. Users create anonymous profiles when they join the network and describe the categories of expertise for which they are willing to accept questions. Incoming questions are classified by category, experience, urgency, importance and language and are sent to members who are best qualified to respond. Users rate themselves and each other’s responses, both of which determine a user’s competence.

FINE PRINT:
In order to win a "Chat with an EIC," a one-on-one meeting with an editor in chief, you must buy a raffle ticket. Ticket sales will only be accepted by junior-level editors and recent graduates (defined as two years from your undergraduate or graduate school graduation date). Tickets can be purchased at the Ed2010 happy hour at Revival between 7 p.m. and 8:29 p.m. Tickets are $3 at the event. No one person can buy more than 10 tickets to each raffle. On each ticket, you must write your full name, job title (if not employed, say "unemployed") and email address. Winners will be drawn at random at the Ed2010 Happy Hour Revival on May 14th at 8:30 p.m. Tickets will also be sold online for $4 each. Online tickets will be incorporated into tickets sold at the event; on the Pay Pal form you MUST include your current job title to prove that you are a junior editor and/or your graduation date from college. Tickets that are incomplete and job title or graduation date is not indicated will NOT be entered into the raffle. Tickets will be sold online until 6 p.m. on the day of the event. You do not have to be present to win; we will contact you via your email address. If you do not respond within 7 days to the e-mail announcing that you won, another winner will be drawn at random in your place. Ed2010 will send out an introductory e-mail to you and the EIC, and exchange contact information, but will not make scheduling arrangements—that is the winner's responsibility. Meetings are valid for 6 months after winning. In case of unforeseen circumstances, Ed2010 reserves the right to substitute the EIC with whom the winner will meet. (But, seriously, that's not going to happen. Anthony and Sarah Gray are on board! We just have to cover our butts.)
