******* This Old House has become one of the latest magazines—and first Time Inc. title—to publish a 100-percent reader-created issue. The 950,000-circulation title's June issue is comprised entirely of reader-submitted photos and stories of do-it-yourself projects. (It also features a special "Your Old House" logo with the word "This" crossed out.) Executive editor Kathryn Keller says the magazine received thousands of e-mails, letters, photos and projects since editor Scott Omelianuk's first call for submissions in his December editor's letter. Faced with a recessionary economy, business-to-business publishing is off to a rough start in 2008. As expected, b-to-b magazines saw a 5.3 percent decline in advertising revenue during the first quarter when compared to the first three months of 2007, according to figures released by the Business Information Network. Ad pages—perhaps the more telling statistic, given the discounts publishers tend to give to frequent advertisers—fell 7.32 percent. MORE ONLINE

Just as moms are getting hit with higher prices for food and diaper prices, Bonnier Corp.’s Parenting is launching a program to let its readers get cash back on purchases while using the resulting spending data to woo advertisers. Parenting has struggled in second place in the parents magazine category this year, with ad pages down 1.2 percent to 423 in the first half while the No. 1 book, Meredith Corp.’s Parents, grew pages 12.4 percent to 676, per the Mediaweek Monitor. The program, called Parenting Privileges and managed by loyalty marketing firm Affinity Solutions, gives Parenting subscribers money back when they spend with certain online retailers. Subscribers sign up at parentingprivileges.com, and from there can visit a range of online retailers including ToysRUs.com, Target.com and Diapers.com. MORE ONLINE

Reader's Digest vice president and publisher Jeff Wellington has left the magazine after seven months in the position. He joined the title in October, reporting to group publisher Eva Dillon, from The Parenting Group, where he was president and group publisher. The home of Parenting and BabyTalk, among others, was owned by Time Inc. during his tenure, but was acquired by Bonnier Group last year. "Jeff is one of the greatest guys in the business, but it wasn't the right fit for either of us," said Dillon. Wellington's last day was Thursday. Dillon will assume his responsibilities until a new publisher is named. Reader's Digest has undergone a major transition under new owners Ripplewood Holdings and president and chief executive officer Mary Berner. The magazine in November brought in former More editor in chief Peggy Northrop as its new top editor, who then redesigned the title (the June issue was the first fully overseen by Northrop). Advertising, however, remains a challenge: Through June, ad pages for the magazine have fallen 14 percent to 476. Dillon said the decline is "100 percent due" to a falloff in pharmaceutical advertising, which makes up about 40 percent of the magazine's ad mix. Dillon noted that ad categories outside of pharmaceutical are up 8 percent.

With a launch looming in September, WSJ., the Wall Street Journal's glossy magazine, is staffing up, and with one exception, it's looking beyond the Journal. Editor Tina Gaudoin, who previously edited The Times of London's quarterly Luxx supplement, has hired two people from her Rolodex known for their work in British glossies: Jeffrey Podolsky, most recently New York editor of Tatler and a regular contributor to Luxx, has been named editor at large, and Sasha Wilkins, formerly based in London and now a New York-based writer for British Harper's Bazaar and Elle, among others, has been named executive style editor. Also at WSJ., Kate Auletta (daughter of The New Yorker's media writer Ken) has been named assistant features editor; she joins fellow House & Garden refugee Lucy Gilmour, now photo director of WSJ. It will presumably fall to newly minted features editor Janelle Carrigan to explain Journal culture to the newcomers (that is, whatever remains under the leadership of News Corp.-appointed Robert Thomson, now managing editor of The Journal). She was most recently the travel editor of the Weekend Journal and the managing editor of the Weekend Journal Asia, based in Hong Kong.

Another former Cygnus Business Media executive has launched a competing magazine. Paul Bowers, who was laid off as group vice president in July as part of a restructuring, last week launched Airport Improvement magazine. With a 5,200 initial print run, the magazine—which publishes six times per year—targets airport management, consultants and vendors. "Markets change and aviation is no exception," Bowers tells FOLIO:. "I simply am providing the market with a product that does what no other can do." MORE ONLINE

Influential TV blogger, columnist, and Smurfs collector Michael Ausiello (whom NYTV profiled back in November) is leaving his longtime home at TV Guide for a new writing gig at Entertainment Weekly, where he will pen a weekly column and contribute to EW.com. A few weeks ago, Macrovision Solutions Corporation competed a multibillion dollar takeover of Gemstar-TV Guide. Since then, Macrovision executives have reportedly been trying to sell the magazine while holding onto TVGuide.com—where Mr. Ausiello has established himself in recent years as a major force in the entertainment industry. According to the press release, Mr. Ausiello will start at EW on July, 2. MORE ONLINE
